CHEAP Chinese Fairings for Wrecked Yamaha R1 Rebuild - Is It Worth It? Part 12

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Now that my bike is mechanically sound (or so I think…) it’s time to make her pretty and put some cheap new custom fairings on it 😀
I never used Chinese fairings before and I want to see how the fitment turns out to be. Especially that gas tank cover that seems ubiquitous for the 07-08 Yamaha R1 4C8 on eBay and Aliexpress
So I put it together and realize some parts are good and some are really not… Having no paint reference doesn’t help when comes the time to color match the gas tank with those fairings…
But you know I spray paint my way through perfection and that’s exactly what I did with some Duplicolor cans and some masking tape to make stripes on the tank
Tell me what you think of the result!
The good thing: the taillight (also coming from a Chinese seller) worked right away and was a real plug and play product
I also show how to change stripped rivnuts (rivet nut) on my rear subframe
I hope you enjoy watching and get some value out of my video 👍

Hi I'm Tristan!
I live in New York and when I'm not working on my fitness clothing line (yoked.net) I DIY with intensity 😅
For now, I restore wrecked motorcycles. So I disassemble, weld, machine and fix those bikes so they can go back on the road!

my uncle used this kinda fairing too on his 2007 R1 at some spot it melted because the heat from the engine, make sure you put the heat protection tape on your fairings to prevent from the melting

Looking very nice Tristan! When you get around to buying a HVLP gun get a good one! I painted both my bikes last winter (10 pieces) and the Eastwood Concours gun ($70 USD) caused me major orange peel and uneven coats...... I now have to repaint half of the parts. Eastwood customer service was a joke! I will be getting a Iwata gun in the future. Best Regards, Doug

@@TristanDurandBuilds I have been using the Eastwood dual voltage gun for @ 7 years now and you shd get very good results with it. I have to run @ 15-20 PSI at the gun as the recommended PSI was not enough... yours may be ok though. They all leak powder around the top of the cap on the blue cylinder but it still works fine just a bit messy. Use a powerful LED light to check for powder coverage before the parts go into the oven, it really helps. Cheers, Doug

So far (I haven’t put the front fairings yet) I would say that I would buy the fairings unpainted and paint them myself, it would give me the opportunity to clean up the edges before painting and make sure it fits better... But I’ll give my final verdict on the next video when everything is put together 👍

I think the title is clickbait, more or less. If you have a wrecked bike it'll most likely have a Rebuilt or Salvage title and never be worth much. So of course I'd put cheap Chinese crap on it, too!

@@TristanDurandBuilds , ok, but I see there are lots of videos out there with millions of views, based getting something from China for dirt cheap. Everything from an $89 guitar, to, you name it, to get kids to watch. But I could have the wrong idea of what "Clickbait" is. Peace.
