How to Properly Ask for A Raise
Simon Sinek suggested the most effective approach to requesting a pay raise in an interview on Steven Bartlett's podcast. I have personally employed this technique even prior to watching the video, and I concur that it relieves pressure from both you and your employer, leading to a collaborative solution rather than a demanding one.

Simon (guy in this video) "that's great, your boss is grooming and motivating you to that price point." Me (aka somebody with a bit of sense) "start shopping around for another job that pays better bro."
Don't do this unless you really do want to stay with the company long term. If a company is not providing you with a competitive wage then they don't value you, give them the yes or no ultimatum and stick with it. If they say no, respectfully hand them your two weeks notice. If a company truly values your time and effort then they will reward you accordingly.
This only works if your boss is honest and proactively ensures company policy/budget can permit this to happen once achieved goals are met.
And your boss says, " the path to that salary that you want, find another job."

Exactly. The whole point of asking for the raise was to get paid what you are worth for the work you do, trying to ask what you can do for a raise will Lilley have them try to get as much work out of you before giving you a raise. If they weren't paying you the standard to begin with, why would they willingly raise your wage? You give them an ultimatum. You get an answer, if you don't like it, you can leave. If they don't want you to leave, they have to pay you more. Employers already gatekeep most graduates from working because they need a minimum if x years of experience + a degree, so idk where the have the audacity to undervalue their current workers.

I want/deserve a raise now. Not 4 months from now.
It worked, I just signed a new contract today 🎉🎉🎉🎉
This is a good negotiation tactic to follow even outside of asking for a raise. Ask the person what needs to happen for you to get x, and decide if you can accommodate them. I love this advice.
This is a good idea if you like your boss and environment. If your boss has good intentions for you, they'll show you a path to get a raise. If your boss doesn't care then you just created more work for the same amount of money for yourself. If you're a good employee, explain how valuable you are to the company with proof and why the company needs you. Then ask for your raise. If it's rejected, see if you can compromise on a smaller raise and discuss how you can get to the number you want

@@TheRealRehmando you have employees? The way that you write suggests you don't. This video is a very good approach for getting more money. Maybe they will have more work but also more money
The majority of employers will either laugh at you or get mad that you're interrupting them with these philosophical questions. At best you'll get more work, no money. At worst they'll try to fire you because you've become a "bad egg". This dude is fucking delusional. Everything he says depends on the other person being a saint and there are none left.
If you want 20% raise- you look for a job elsewhere Incredibly it's easier to get a raise this way than in an existing job. Incredibly because a cost of findjng new person an training that person may be much more costly in the longer run
Lol, look at that guy who's obviously not been in a normal average job for a long time if ever. None of my bosses decide my salary, bro. They fill paperwork to some opaque HR department where a bunch of HR losers will pass the paperwork through a bureaucratic process that will give them a number as % raise, according to all kinds of bullshit numbers and KPIs.
His advice is good given the fact that you are realy good at your job already.
Is this to say that aspirations to stay with a company are required to merit a raise though? I don’t feel that I should be required to stay at a job and be loyal to them in order to get to a salary that meets my current worth. If I am demonstrating XYZ, and a raise requires that XYZ be met, there should be no reason for the raise to not happen (or at least be considered) regardless if I plan to stay there 6 months or 6 years.

If they say "no, we don't do that here" or their personal favourite "we will look into it" then either get used to not getting a raise or find another job.
Now you have extra workload, you said you're loyal so cant leave, raises will be inconsistent or nonexistent. Your only real power is walking away. Apply to other relevant positions within the company, and also many external positions at different companies. Use some of your vacation days to prep/interview. The real raises come from your bargaining power when negotiating a new position. If things randomly go well and you get a nice raise at your current position reassess. Never threaten to leave if you dont get a great raise. Don't get disgruntled or seem like a flight risk. Don't leave your job on bad terms. This is an opportunity to grow yourself. Be low key and dont talk about it at work, people gossip, also you can be overheard. Check internal promotion salaries vs external hire salaries, you'll learn real quick its almost always better to leave.

How do you check internal salaries? I can only guess as people aren’t ready to share. I plan to negotiate my salary soon. I know they can’t meet it because it sounds like a big leap but it wouldn’t be such a leap if I was properly paid and not consistently underpaid. I’m struggling with whether or not I should let the employer know I may walk. On the one hand, I feel it may help with the negotiation process but on the other I feel they will start finding a replacement for me to train!
I am/was loyal but never let an employer know this! More chances than not they will take advantage of you and think you will never leave. In some cases, you can’t leave so easy. It’s tough out there.
In my case the answer was "Yes you're a good and valuable worker. But the company cannot currently afford your raise." I left after a couple of months and found a better job that paid better. Just leave and find a better employer
The question can still be answered with a yes or no though
Where’s the full video?
The best way to get a raise, is to get another job.
So your advice is to give the employer a justification for giving the employee more work for the same income under the idea that "they will have a path to a higher income in the future"
this only happens in US though, in Europe we get raises depending on how long we have worked or our education in the area...

If not a raise, then I would say use the systems that are in place at that job to self-educate the hell out of yourself. Utilize the education platform they have (if there is one) and learn everything you can, see if you can be reimbursed by your current workplace to get certifications, trainings, attend workshops, etc. and if no raise take ALL that experience and get your 15-20k raise at another company 🤷♂️
I find the one of the most effective things to do is to be comfortable going to another company.
I don't want to stay at the company, I just cannot afford to live with the little I am getting.😂
I talked to my boss in a both ways 😂.
Its best to just find someone that will value you.... dont hang around

In short, if someone says "I do the same as everyone else and I earn 20% less" the matter is simple. Is it true? If it's true. The guy should earn more. He doesn't have to beg "on his knees" for a 20% raise, he already deserved it.
Tried once, didn't work for me. Maybe it'll work for some though.
I guess this works for anything that you want to get.
nonsense advice that does not work.
I’m gonna stick with most people lol
D0 20% more then you get paid for and make sure it is seen and appreciated. If not, decide how long you are willing to wait for the increase and how probable it will be
He will give you a path but no raise.
I tried this and blew up in my face. Think twice before taking this “expert” advice LOL
I mean that’s fine and well. But if you’re a good employee getting underpaid… the path has already been walked. And it’s time for the employer to pay up.
Yea be careful doing it this way. Know your boss well! If they're the type to just spit bs then bs is what you'll get, even after doing what they say to do that will get you to the salary that you want.
If your boss gives you more than a 3% raise, it will destroy your boss's reputation. even if you're severely underpaid.
The problem with this is that this advice only works if your just freshly in a position where you may have less experience. If you've worked somewhere for a while and then ask this question, you then invite immense workload onto you with a "promise" of a wage increase in the future which can lead to people being taken advantage of. I really don't like that he's presenting it like you should say this when your yearly review comes up.

The company would lose a lot more if you leave and they need to hire someone to replace you, so it's always better to keep your staff in. A competent boss understands that and would most likely come with a rise to keep you in. If they don't want to match the offer that still works out for you. You'll get a increase in your salary, just by changing the jobs.
Sorry. People don't have careers... they don't even have jobs... just an IOU to pay u
Never do this unless you plan on being there long term, personally I like a yes or no because it’s more straightforward and I don’t get my time wasted.
This is an absurd logic. Of course a salary rise is a yes/no question. Assuming you're valuable. Then your employer doesn't want to lose you, that's why he might say yes.
Can anyone who is saying this isn't the best way, put their views on the way to ask for a raise? Rather tyan just say 'no', 'not the best way' etc etc
That will only result in your boss talking a load of crap and giving you more responsibilities with same salary so now you have more work on top of being underpaid. Just quit. Best way to get more pay.

You HAVE TO ask what he say, but this question must show you resulst. Trust me - words like "willl see, maybe etc" cost nothing. You have to get clear answer and clear plan. Bullshit. Until you'll be very clear you'll be handed out something lower than your expectation which makes only the company happy cuz they save some money If you ask for a path they'll say wait for sometime then you'll exceed your expectations (here the fact that your expectations also increase with time is not accounted for)
quit and they will give a you a raise to stay. its the only way.
exploiters DO NOT CARE
This is ridiculous. You will never get a raise like this unless you have an outstanding leader. Don't be rude, be direct, use facts, don't get personal, don't get too emotional, don't throw other people under the bus when asking for a raise, be confident of the work that you have done and carefully leverage the support of other leaders in the organization. Whatever you do within those parameters is fair. Asking your company to help you figure out an internal development path only works if HR is organised and is predicated on cultivating long-term vision. This advice may only work for 2 to 5% of companies out there.
