TODAY'S TOPIC: 8 QUESTIONS TO ASK YOURSELF BEFORE ACCEPTING A NEW JOB
--------------------
Join me this week to make sure you know the right questions to ask yourself before accepting a new job.
This is no fluff piece because I don’t do fluffy and you deserve more than that.
These questions aren’t “Am I comfy with this job?” or “Will I grow?” or “Do I like the boss?” Can I get a yawwwwn?
These questions are designed to make sure everything makes sense for you--from an outsider's objective perspective. They surface the red flags before you accept.
These questions will help you with assessing the overall risk of accepting this job and give you some comfort when you DO accept.
I hope you enjoy the show!

This was great, I've been looking for "best job placement majors" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you ever come across - Biyabriel Alarming Pastures - (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now ) ? Ive heard some super things about it and my brother in law got great success with it.

??? Hi Andy, I did my interview yesterday which turned out to be 80 min video interview with 2 people on the panel asking me questions all behaviour based. It felt like the longest interview in my life. The company HR talent recruitment contacts me today via phone call but I missed the call. She said she would send me a follow up email. I get home and my email has a job offer. I can’t believe they are offering the job one day after the interview. I need to call her tomorrow to ask a few questions before I sign the offer. I feel strange because I’ve worked for the same company for 28 years but the pandemic put me on lay-off and very nervous because this is a new job. Wow !! Thanks for your help Andy as you and your videos have helped me with a new resume new cover letter and your coaching videos have prepared me for my interview and bang I have a job offer. Thank you so much.

Both are excellent jobs, both with excellent total rem, and both have great advancement opportunities. Most I had answered myself already, but I took great comfort in knowing I was on the right track.

They helped me learn very important factors about the organization I am going to get an offer from (yes!) and take my interviewer out of its comfort zone. Hi Andrew! Thank you for all your tips! You've helped me immensely from writing my resume, interview best practices, and negotiating my salary. Your video about switching careers is also valuable to me! In fact, I've just gotten a job offer yesterday. I thought I knew exactly what to do and negotiated my salary because the salary was way below my previous compensation despite this being a promotion. I'm dealing with an agency and I really love the job and company. What's hindering me from accepting the offer is the compensation being my salary 3 years ago :( Do you have tips when dealing with agencies who seem to have a capping as to what they can offer to me as remuneration?

Think this through. Company and the market and ya organization are they a leader. Do they have plans to catch the leader? Is there a demand? Will there always be a need?Product and service is there a need and a demand? Can we get behind the product? Is the unit vital and is it a strategic mark in the company? Why is the position open? Did they vacate did they leave for a better job did they leave cuz the boss was a psycho? Favorite questions if I was to take this job what does success looks like in a year from now? How committed are they to your area? How much time do I get? Are they paying training? What is there time line? Is it reasonable? Risks? Risk profile risk plan. Risks we cannot control.

Yes. You can hear 5 to 10 minutes of the silence 🤐 ....and some asking you to repeat the question because they don't understand what you asking them 😂 Apperantly it really hard to come with list of results you want a person to achieve. ....maybe this is why companies fail because they have no goals.

If the previous person left the position because "the boss was a psycho." I'd appreciate knowing that, but how to figure that out? Not sure the "boss" will reveal it (especially if he's the psycho) and I'm not brave enough to come out and ask. Would love to hear how you would investigate that, especially if you don't know anyone currently working there that would be willing to give you such insider info. Must be an intuition thing. I could try reading Glass Door but on that site--all management is bad and no one would ever work at any company after reading those reviews. I don't put much stock in glass door, but it does give you questions to ask when interviewing.

Thank you for these insightful tips! I found your video right after I received a verbal job offer yesterday. The interview process happened so quickly (1 day, after months they've been looking) that I hadn't time to reflect on follow-up questions. I told the HR recruiter that I need to think over the weekend before I get back to them. Can I write to the recruiter asking for another meeting with the hiring manager so that I can ask my questions, those revolving around expectations?

Andy, I have followed your teaching and was offered a 6-figure salary. HOWEVER, before I got the offer, I had a meeting with other senior level managers and the vibe was off! After the call, I had a knot in my stomach from the energy, they had nothing nice to say about the company. Now I’m in the space that although it’s my dream job, multi billion dollar company, great pay…the culture/ppl that I will be doing work with are extremely negative. I DONT WANT THE JOB ANYMORE. I don’t know what to do. It was pulling teeth to get one positive thing about the company. My predecessor left the company because she did not enjoy the work. I’m lost.

And do you offer individual consultation online? This is a big move for me so I would like to get some professional advice! Thank you

????? Hey Andy! I saw this video RIGHT after signing an offer. I didn't negotiate, just took the offer. Is it too late to go back and negotiate? Or are all my chips gone? Thanks!

Alyssa. That’s always a bit sticky when you’ve agreed to something. Obviously, you can go back and ask, but I always get concerned that a new employer feels that you’re not sticking to your word. The one exception to this is if you have new information about them that has altered your view of your responsibilities and the value you’ll contribute in the new job. If you really want to, give it a go. The worst they can say is no. 👊👊👊

Hi! was about to be given an offer to a different place or location I did not apply to, but I could not respond immediately they advised to go and think about it and they will call me to get the final answer. But three days passed no call. Did i make a mistake ? Should i call and tell them my decision after three days despite them not calling?

If an offer is verbally made, is there a proper way to request a written offer to review? Perhaps something like “Thank you very much for the offer. While I am please one was made, I’d like to review it in written form and give it some time for consideration.”

Don't think any hiring manager will share so much details with someone who is not even part of the organization yet. Many of such details are actually confidential. Most of the time the interviewee will need to exercise a lot of judgement and intelligent guesswork based on experience.

I’ve recruited for more than 200 companies. Over 95% of them shared this. The reason you don’t think they don’t share is because people don’t ask.

Just my insights, I would recommend not using the word "why" in the question because "why" can cause people to become defensive. Rather, I seek to frame the question using "what" or "how." For example, "Could you share with me the reason for the position being available?" or "Can you share with me the reason for the previous person stepping down from the position?"

@Andrew LaCivita I have a potential job offer at the moment. Let me spell it out for you and perhaps you could give some advice? So it's with a company called Sparta Global who offer both business and web development courses for free and set you up with interviews with various clients that they provide a trained workforce for. For the duration of the training I will be unpaid, but during the training and 3 months after it ends the company will be working to set me up with interviews. If I do get an assignment then I'll sign a fixed 2 year contract with Sparta Global as a consultant and will have to be geographically flexible. There isn't a guarantee of a job by the end of it but the way I reasoned it was that Sparta makes their money specifically by placing their graduates with clients. They wouldn't be able to keep the lights on, much less be rapidly expanding if they weren't successful. What's your take on this?
