    @@aishah5244 Wrong. Very wrong. HR department keeps personnel files. It contains your job offer and your response among other documents (contracts, NDAs etc). If the person signs and bails, they won't get another offer even if the entire department changes. Your file will be marked for future HR colleges. There is plenty of money in the recruiting process, once you sign, your new team is scheduled accordingly etc. That company won't be willing to take another shot at you. Not to mention that some HR people stay in the same industry and just move between companies/competitors. If your job is industry-specific, you might encounter them at another competitor few years later. You wouldn't know though, since your resume will be simply put to "No" file

    Put them off for a week or two? You must be joking. LOL. Most companies want an answer in 48 hours. DO THIS: Accept the job if you're under a strict deadline and then ditch if you get a better offer. Keep interviewing until you get what you want. I would not necessarily tell any employer you're still interviewing other places because they have no right to that information. Don't feel bad because companies have the right to rescind a job offer at the last minute. "At Will" employment works both ways!!

    This could backfire. I’ve been on the hiring side and had candidates hesitate on accepting an offer and my boss thought if they weren’t jumping at it then he didn’t think they’d give 💯 on the job. I’m not saying I agreed with him, but there are employers out there like this, and while it would be wise to steer away from those types of bosses (trust me), I realize not everyone can afford to lose a good job offer in hopes another comes along. I would do this only if I really wasn’t too excited about the job and willing to lose an offer in hopes of getting the job I really wanted.

Many healthcare employers would withdraw their offer. Keep in mind that many of these places don't even have HR, and it is completely at the discretion of your immediate boss whether to hire you. If that boss is a narcissist, this would be the nail in your coffin.

  • @pinkmark4047

    @pinkmark4047

    As someone who has been in a similar situation, name a salary expectation. The indecisiveness with naming a salary will tell the hiring manager this: That whatever the position actually pays is either too high or too low for you and that you may be unsure of your own skillset that you may be bringing to the job. They want to hit a sweet spot with the salary they give. If they have $60,000 for the position, they'll aim for finding someone that they can pay $55,000 to $57,000 for the work (they will get closer to $60,000 if the candidate proves exceptional either from prior experience or work history). You not naming a salary gives the impression that they should either lowball you (which can easily backfire on them and they will want to avoid) or that you may be expecting an exuberant salary (by their metric). If the listing for the position doesn't outright list a salary range, compare similar positions in the field from other companies and draw an average from there. If they do list a salary range, don't be shy and aim for the middle. If the salary range is $55,000 to $60,000 ask for $57,000. Then see how the company conducts raises and when you will be eligible for one. If you genuinely feel that you deserve the full $60,000 maximum of the range, ask for that. You may be surprised to see the company agree or at the very least, negotiate with you to stay fairly close to that amount. Hope this helps. It's tough out there but don't be afraid to stand your ground. A complacent job candidate can only get so far.

These days the evergreen pipelining ghost jobs posting from companies, they are looking for GPA of 3.5 or better with experience. If your GPA is 3.0 to 3.4, then you’re second class citizens. And if your GPA is 2.9 to 2.0 then you went to college for nothing, your diploma is worthless, you can’t even apply to get a master degree. And these days the jobs with pay you want are offer to PhD graduates. And before picking a major, look at job availability first, I know it will be hard, since every companies are doing ghost jobs to look for the best, that’s why they post the same jobs throughout the years every month, but not hiring anyone.

    if you ask for a day or 2 to consider the offer, and the company closes the deal right away as a result, then they probably did yourself a favour. It was probably not a good company to work at. The business needs are never such that 1 or 2 extra days before you join, means life or death for the company. Managers from companies who do that are about showing their strong ego. They want to feel superior. If you ask that manager to wait for a day or 2, that makes him/her feel like you are challenging their strong ego. He/She doesn't like that.

  • @Kalamain

    @@johnsmith-ro2tw I understand what you are saying. But I don't think it works like that. Maybe at the highest of levels this would be fine, but out here in the trenches, no. If you start playing games then hiring managers won't want any hassle and just move on. It isn't out of power or ego... It's laziness. If you are willing to piss around at THAT point then what kind of worker are you going to be when you are in the job? No. Most hiring managers will see that and move on. Less hassle, less stress and less chances of having to do follow ups. So unless you really shine or you have that oddly specific skill set, which is honestly one hell of a bargaining chip... Best to get someone in and get them working.

    @@Kalamain "If you are willing to piss around at THAT point then what kind" Not like that. You're not begging the company to offer you a job. You share your interest in a job they offer by applying, you meet the guys at the hiring company, they make you an offer. Then all you're saying is : "thank you, I need to consider the offer". Until the contract is signed, there is room for negotiation. It's not about attempting to make things difficult for the sake of it. (that would be stupid) If they offer to employ you, that means you already showed you "really shine". The company offers a job to what they feel is the best candidate. If after going through all this (often at least 3 interviews), then give up because you said you want a day or 2 to think, they have wasted time and money. They show they manage things poorly. At past job applications, hiring companies would usually initiate to offer me to reply within 24/48h. Again, you're asking for 48h, not 3 weeks. Asking for 3 weeks would mean you're waiting for replies from other job interviews. That would be a different scenario that shows you're not really interested.

    you can do that, just note that you can lose the offer since they just went for another candidate and not bother negotiating with you

    When I send a job offer it has a 48hr window. If a candidate is going to leverage your offer elsewhere then it's best to move on to someone that is excited about the role.
