You can make a ninja flipping demon's spear cleric with great magic barrier at SL 14. That's one level off from our target range, but I doubt many people are limiting themselves to only invading SL 13 or less. I probably don't need to explain how evil this build is.

the best counter imo is to just level up so it is less exploited, get a good hitting weapon and roll over them and smash them. done. just level, as you are supposed to. leveling is so fast anyway. rushingdark bead takes so long...

useless data suggestion: i saw a video that showed that rolls had varying speeds depending on your equip load, and not just fast, mid and fat roll but fast roll has 4 (iirc) different speeds and mid roll 3 (iirc) but that video didnt include fat rolling! If you're insane enough to get through the duke's archives as a base level character, you can make an effective counter build to this using a spell called Strong magic Shield, which grants an extra 50% stability to your shield and completely negates any blocked damage for 30 seconds. The Int requirement is only 15, so you can use it at base level on a sorcerer.

Heh, once I was invaded by a dark mage as I was clearing out Oolacile on my first playthrough, I only had my Grant and he had cast Pursuers and was getting ready to blast me away with dark bead. As I was silently panicking while thinking about what to do I instinctively switched to the silver talisman and at the last second of his cast I remembered the powers of the item I had at hand. So I immediately spammed it and all of his heretical hexes uselessly bounced off my magnificent shiny armour, I hurled my holy Grant toward the poor wretched fool as he realized what had happened, alas he was slippery and managed to dodge my strike which shattered the ground near him. The hexer was distraught having his scheme fail and having no weapons besides his staff, although he was yet to be out of tricks up his dirty sleeves and casted homing soulmass however doing so he stood on a narrow path leading to the abyss, seeing the opportunity I rose my Grant and conjured its holy powers casting the wretched heretic back into the abyss he belongs to. Moral of the story ? Hexers usually only have their staff equiped along with dark magic, the silver talisman if spammed during the casting animation completely negates their only form of attack and will send them running like the cowards they are, quite effective since no one expects it. Also what happened to old man ? Is he allright ? Where is he ? ...Pls don't murder my waifu, it's all I have.

You're one of the only people who takes a laser focused look at the actual mechanics of dark souls as opposed to the lore. Not that there's anything wrong with lore channels. Just wait out their spells, they only have 6 casts, and no way to restore them. It's totally fine to fish against them, they aren't playing fair either. Also remember that Dark is a mix of physical and magical damage, meaning chain mail is probably going to be best, don't expect it to let you survive a direct volley though.

The true counter, light roll. It's been a minute but I'm pretty sure the spells all come out at about the same time and swinging up the catalyst like that is a really obvious tell.

3:20 Have you actually tested this? By what you're saying, I should be getting more red invaders the higher my soul level is, but I'm actually getting less red invaders at SL 125 than at SL 99. I know it worked this way in PTDE, but in remastered I'm pretty sure the upper limit is no longer 713 but [Host SL] + 10 + 0.1(Host SL) like the guide says.

Just letting you know at 2:18, you say "1.7x more powerful," but with a jump from 81 damage to 221 damage, you're actually roughly 2.72x more powerful, which is even better! 81 + (81 x 1.73), or 81 x 2.72, roughly equals 221.

Yeah, text is correct, what is spoken is not. It is a 171% increase, as written, but that doesn't make 1.71x more powerful, but 2.71x more powerful.

You don’t have to ascend a +10 weapon to get the Manus catalyst. You directly upgrade a catalyst (+0) to get it. And assuming it is counted as +5, you can still be matched with a +0 WL player.

"WHERE IS OLD MAN?" on this video. Also: Use Dark Wood Grain ring, Mask of the child, green blossom, chloranty ring and a dagger. They usually run 0 poise so they will never be able to hit you if you dodge properly, your stamina recovery will be good enough to avoid any casting. you can even equip gauntlets of thorns to bully them. Or use dragon torso stone and headbutt them. All can be done at SL 1. No DEX required.

What about the cleric magic barrier build tho? Cleric has enough faith on base sl 2 to use it.

I've only encountered a handful of dark bead mages, but for some god forsaken reason, my no equip load run seems to be best at dealing with them. +5 ascended pyromancy flame with 45 dex for that insane casting speed on combustion and the bellowing dragon-crest ring. although I do make an exception if the person I am fighting tries to be lame: for those special assholes I will equip the dusk crown to further accentuate the glass cannon (reserved solely for those that attack during the opening wave or try to spawn camp the guy not wearing any fucking armor... the best part about both of those is that I WON AFTER THEY WERE LAME)
