Fall damage was percent in DS1. You could have your health modded to 1, and be immune to non-instakill fall damage.

FYI it was only Dark Souls 2 that had fall damage you could level up health to survive. Dark Souls 1 did a fixed percentage of your max health -- a fall that would bring you to 50% HP at 50 vit would bring you to 50% at SL1 as well.

Sometimes, playing DS3, I just feel like they got rid of every change they made in DS2 even the good ones like this. The critics were so heavy on DS2 that they simply made the mistake of pretending it never happened.

1:58 dark souls 1 was percentage based, the only variable for fall damage was equip load, and if a fall wasn't a one-shot for a low weight character, a max weight character would always survive with at least 0.1% of their health too. dark souls 2 was the only one with janky fall damage

Uhhh... In DS1 fall damage is percentage based, so having 4 vit or 40 vit ended the same on a fall, with the health bar fully filled, that is.

There's so much bitching here about the voice over, but tbh I really like it. You have a really nice voice, man. It's not as silly as the text-to-speech, but certainly way more pleasant to listen to :) Also, this is really interesting! I've been kinda curious about how fall damage works since launch, as it's obviously different from past games, so it's good to see you tackle the subject!

there is a height at which you can fall, where WITH silvercat ring, the fall breaks your tears but doesnt outright kill you. the spooky tears drop

DkS1 fall damage was percentage based, but based on max HP, not current, and weight had no impact. Also, you forgot to equip rings for extra weight.

You could probably decrease minimum death threshold by equipping rings, too. Covetous Gold, Covetous Silver, Red Tearstone, and Pontiff Right Eye would do it.

Would wearing the Calamity Ring or Dusk Crown Ring lead to a lower instant death height? I assume the Dusk Crown Ring would, considering the calculation considers embered health. I guess my question is what's the lowest possible height you can die at at full health? This video covered most of it, but I feel we can go deeper.

Say, I think I saw in one of your videos that you can use an external program which tracks values within the game. Generally there's a XYZ coordinate system for players, items etc. If you could use this or something similar to *edit* values (specifically the y coordinate of the players height), you could use it to drop your character from a number of veeeeery specific distances. With a lot of repetitions, tweaking numbers etc. I bet you could actually figure out the exact numbers and formulae DS3 uses to calculate fall damage. Now *that* would be some premium, scientifically-derived useless data.

Did you test the breakpoints for DEX or VIT with either low or high of the other stat? I wonder whether e.g. DEX decreases fall damage more or the same but stops/slows down at the usual breakpoints whereas VIT is a flat decrease per level or doesn't tail off in quite the same way as DEX. Also, does Iron Flesh make a difference to fall damage (due to extra encumbrance, so maybe lowering the shortest lethal fall height at full health) or any buffs that reduce damage taken?
