Really cool. First time seeing this type of fastener!

How many kilograms of force it can take before it pops open ? Would love to see an example of the fastener used to pair up leather. I'm thinking of using them as a method of attaching leather saddlebags to a motorcycle if they are strong enough. Maybe try and use a fish spring weigh scale for the tension measurement.

Osborne tool Heavy and pricey. Japan and Germany make the best stuffs like the button fastener made in Germany

Would these work better than normal snaps for keeping a trailered boat cover secure when driving?

Do not push the spring-loaded center socket to lock it, will damage brass claws inside. Push outer piece to lock it.

I would have to say yes, you would just need to drill And TAP the holes. The metal would also need to be protected from oxidation at the site of the hole so that it doesn't stain your cloth.
