Danny that was the easiest and best way I've seen to change the power steering fluid. You ought to patten this, this makes life a lot easier. Thank you so much for all of your videos. I could never have changed the a/c expansion valve if it wasn't for your video on how to do it, a lot of work but you explained and showed me how to do it, and with great success I did it and now I have 40 degree air coming out of my vents. God Bless.

Thank You so much! Simple clear easy to follow directions. Very Happy with results. Dealer wanted $167 to Flush and Fill, cost me less than $35 for 3 bottles fluid 4' of 3/8" ID clear tubing and a 3/8" Brass Barbed fitting.

Beautiful video and very helpful. The PS fluid in my daughter's 2009 Civic was filthy and a garage recommended a flush which would have cost Lord knows how much. I bought a 3-pack of fluid on Amazon, the tubing and fittings that you recommended, drilled a couple of holes in the lid of an empty vinegar bottle to catch the fluid (my rig was not near as well made as yours but it got the job done), and followed your steps from there. It was a quick and easy process, and it was very fulfilling to see all that dirty fluid come out and see the clean stuff in the reservoir. Thanks to videos like yours I'm able to keep the Honda running like a champ while saving a ton of $$. Keep up the good work!

SUPERB VIDEO!!! I’ve watched over a dozen videos on this procedure and yours is the best by far!! Very nice background music; not too overwhelming and loud. Just wondering if you know why most videos recommend only genuine Honda fluid and not to use the other brands that claim will work for Honda cars?

Excellent video. I wish I knew it was this easy several years ago. Just flush a 2007 Accord that had very dark fluid due to minimal changes. It needed 5.5 bottles of Honda Power Steering Fluid ( they each hold 12fl oz) to get it to a pale brown color. That was good enough for me. Reminder Hondas are very sensitive to particular fluids, therefore only use Power Steering Fluid by Honda!

They're mostly just sensitive to transmission fluids, Lubeguard Synthetic Honda Power Steering Fluid is way better than the basic OEM Honda stuff.

My 2005 Civic has 194,000 miles and the fluid may be original. The steering was a little hard so for three bottles of fluid and 40 minutes of labor, I changed the fluid. The steering is definitely lighter so this was overdue. I used aviation grade alum tubing which snugly fit into the return line. Position the hose clamp and the old stuff came out easily. Instead of buying a pump, an old squirt bottle of Dial soap😁 evacuated the system. Thx Danny.

2 bottles, yeah it’s really hard to think of every detail and get good angles that show what you’re doing and still get the job done in a reasonable amount of time, lots to learn, thanks for the compliment

@9:33 next step missing ... it should go into how you disconnect the kinked hose from the reservoir and reconnect the return line to it before you top off the reservoir, which you did but it wasn't shown. Other than that, it was a great video! Awesome angles and that camera mount is nice and steady. It felt like I was looking over your shoulder with those over head shots! OMG, I just knew that bottle was gonna do a 'Spindle Top' oil geyser, but it stopped just in time! I'll set mine in a 'overflow' pan though, I know me.

Thank you for this very informative video. You took yhe time to explain everything in a concise manner that a DIYer would understand. I would like your opinion about water pumps. I have a 2008 Civic and it's almost 200K miles and the water pump is original. There are no leaks and I have been changing the coolant on a regular annual basis. In your opinion, should I change the water pump now or wait until it starts showing leaks. I have been quoted $700+ to replace and I heard that Civic's water pump is very difficult to DIY. I appreciate your input. Thank you.

Question: I want to buy two jar containers , one for the POWER STEERING FLUSH MACHINE & one for doing my brake bleeds, what ounce container size would be needed for collecting the fluids For these two jobs?

Troy, I appreciate you watching my videos, as far as the "Power Steering Flush Machine" the container I used was a Mayonnaise jar, as you could see it's a little lacking on the amount of fluid it can handle, I would double that, however for the brake fluid the Mayonnaise jar size is good.

You could also try using a pump (similar to a liquid soap bottle) with tubing and manually drain the fluid into an empty container.

Hello Danny, after the fluid changes to clear and you have topped off the PS reservoir, how did you remove the return tubing that was filled with PS fluid? and not make a mess? I have a 2010 Accord V6 that I would like to do this service on myself. This looks pretty straight forward for a DIY'er. Thankyou!

It doesn’t matter, warm fluid will flow better, but it really shouldn’t matter unless you live in a cold or freezing climate, I’m in California.

Great video. Why not turn the steering wheel back and forth manually the entire time and skip turning the vehicle on at all to prevent any damage to the motor?

The pump needs to turn to get the fluid out, you could remove the belt and turn it by hand if you’re worried about it, or just skip that step and leave that tiny bit of old fluid in there

A hand operated vacuum pump connected to the return tube is an easy method to remove most of the old fluid from the system without operating the pump.

I use the same one for everything except brake fluid, brake fluid has its own

Would you recommend changing the power steering reservoir with the red cap on any set interval? Wondering if power steering fluid were initially neglected, if it would cause buildup of sediment or something in the reservoir that can affect new fluid when flushed with your method?

In my opinion, aftermarkets from a well-known brand are fine. For Honda Civic 2007 LX, Denso 234-4350 is the perfect one. It’s cheaper than OEM a lot but pretty much same quality without Honda Logo.

Danny, what ounce is your mayonnaise jar? Would a 30 or 42 oz jar be sufficient??

If you have 150k miles on a 2010 civic and the return hose has never been removed. Do you need to be careful - maybe rub some power steering fluid on the hose before removing the hose clamp and removing the hose from power steering fluid reservoir? Or would it be ok to remove the clamp and hose without conditioning it first?

Twist and pull, yes anything you you can do to make it easier is smart

You don't need to get all the fancy hose to drain the off the power steering fluid from the return hose. Just use a 1L soft drink bottle and secured it nicely.

Reservoir nipple was shut via clear tubing ( time: 5:03 ) after return hose was disconnected. Missing from instructions is reconnect of return hose to reservoir. How was that done without introducing air back into system ?

its the return hose, the little bit of air that enters will be easily removed automatically in the reservoir

Drive onto two pieces of carpet or something that will let the wheels turn easier, hopefully this makes sense

@@dannysdiygarage lol no problem. Well apparently some of these Hondas have an internal electrical power steering which doesn’t need fluid replacement. I need to investigate a little more about this. I saw this comment online in a forum.

Curious why you started the engine, then just turned the wheel and then started the engine again? Do they do diff things?

Starting the engine primes the pump with new fluid, it’s high pressure so only do this for a few seconds, the engine needs to be off during the turning of the wheel, if the engine is on when turning the wheel the pressure will be way to high and drain the reservoir in 3 seconds, hopefully this answers your concerns 👍🏼

Quick question why do you need two holes in the cap of the jar .... what's the second hole for ?
