Thanks for taking the time to produce this video. Nice job. We replaced our two 12v batteries with four 6v batteries in series/parallel for a total of 470 amps. We used a four foot wheel well truck box the trailer tongue behind the propane tanks in order to fit them in along with a disconnect switch and battery monitor shunt.…locked and secured.

Nice job. I did this as soon as I got my trailer. Also added a waterproof marine battery disconnect, quick connect for solar, 200W Renogy suitcase travels with us, etc. Videos are on my channel. It is so great to have fully charged heavy duty batteries all the time. I think I'm about 3 years in with the dual Costco 6V golf batteries and working fantastic. Just top off with distilled water occasionally and all is good.

Back in the olden days, we would put water in the battery until the water level hit the bottom of the fill tube, at which point the water would "pucker" and you would know it was at the right level...

I suppose that would be appropriate I always go just below that level because I accidentally overfilled a set in the past and over-dilluted them which ruined them. You can always add more but once you over do it you're in trouble.

Thanks for Sharing, I have one question. The sticker on the battery says 210ah @20hr so are they 175ah or 210ah? I’m looking to use 2 of these for a solar shed setup to charger all the batteries for my power, lawn tools

  • @JCTFIXIT

They rate them differently based on different amp draws. It can be confusing. 210ah at 20 hour would mean it can pull a little over 10 amps for 20 hours straight.

@@JCTFIXIT Lithium batteries are the way to go and cheaper in the long run.

Lithium RV Batteries are way too expensive right now. Most are around $500-$1500 for 1 battery. Golf carts are around $100 and will last about 5-7 years. I also do not think that they have good characteristics for an RV. Lithium batteries do not like to be full or empty they are happiest between 30-80% and lead acids like to be full. (I leave my trailer plugged in when not in use). Also Lithium batteries are more sensitive to vibration and temperature extremes. Look I love Lithium ion batteries for many things, but this is not one of them. Maybe if I was living in my trailer or RV and constantly cycling them, I would consider Lithium, but for most folks that use their campers a few times per year, it just doesn't make any sense.

You can disagree with what I am saying, but until you can form a valid argument as to how Lithium would be more effective or more cost effective for my application then Idk what to tell you. Yes they last longer, but they cost 5x as much. Yes they can handle higher discharge and charge amps, but I am usually running less than 5 amps. I'm all ears, but just saying it's better and to go watch other videos on it won't cut it for me.

Can both 6v batteries be charged/maintained at the same time with one battery tender by connecting them in series and setting the tender to 12v?

Did you have to modify your battery rack on the tongue of your trailer to compensate for the wider 6 volt batteries?

Mine was wide enough, but it is worth noting that I got a battery holder case that is built to hold 2 golf cart batteries. Definitely measure before you pull the trigger.

The width is very close to standard rv marine batteries. They are a little taller though.
