Not sure if the Golf Cart batteries have changed for the 6V line, but today 3/24/19. The Costco batteries are showing 210 Amp hours. Not a huge difference, and I'm unsure of the change....albeit my current coach batteries are 230 Ah, I believe the 210's will be fine, as I'm going with six of these batteries, as we do boon dock fairly often.

I see that you have a battery monitor in your trailer - my truck camper did not come with one. I now understand that they’re essential for avoiding excessive discharges (duh!) and improving battery life. I’m installing one next week. Dipping only to 5% discharge before recharging is harmful-as is regularly discharging below 50% of capacity.

Looking to replace my Travel Trailer 12v battery and was thinking about going the 6 volt golf batteries in series this time. I've never used the 6v golf batteries before. My local Costco has the Interstate 6 volt Golf batteries for $98.93 each. Not to bad a price still, but there was several negative reviews of the Interstate batteries not lasting very long on the Costco reviews. A lot of negative reviews saying the batteries only lasted less then 2 years with regular maintenance . The warranty is only good for 1 year.

Costco battery (Johnson Controls, mexico) are still a flooded type battery :-(. You want hard working, long lasting, low self discharge battery? Go AGM. Mount them any way you want, upright, sideways, upside down.... Yes, AGM will cost you a bit more, but they will self discharge WAAAYYY less, charge much faster, and will out perform a flooded battery any day. Bonus: no acid to leak, no internal plate corrosion & collapse. No checking any fluids with AGM, period. Back up your AGM battery with a solar array on top of your trailer/coach, and just forget it :-D, years of hassle free service. Great channel here.

Completely agree, AGM batteries are a much better battery.... but at three to four times the cost in most cases they may not be in everyone budget. agm batteries are not only more expensive but they can be damaged easier than flooded lead-acid. you need a more expensive charge controller and don't discharge them below 70%, or they won't last any longer than flooded batteries. flooded lead-acid are much better for beginners as they are more forgiving of the mistakes that newbies make.

like this simple improvement of battery replacement with golf cart equivalent. You may want to caution about discharging batteries too much. as with all LEAD ACID batteries you can only discharge to half the rated capacity; before you recharge them fully. Else you will loose the ability to get that back. So 220 AH will only get you 110 AH actual use (it sucks but its true). Many will use a charge monitor device for $100 that displays current used and voltage in an easier monitoring situation. If you dscahreg more than this, your batteries will only recharge to maybe 80% capacity next time, and worse the time after that.

That is true, with a 210 AH Six Volt battery, you really only have 105 AH of use per battery (which is why I'm going to use six of these 6V batteries in my coach) as you can only discharge to 50% and you then have to recharge them. If you don't, the life of the batteries will be short! I have an inverter, that let's me know when I've reached the 50% mark, but yes a 'Battery Monitor' addition is a good thing for all RV's for sure, and they aren't exceptionally costly. I saw one tested and reviewed on KZread the other day for just over $30.00, so one can really go wrong.

When there is no Ampere-Hour or AH rating on the battery but a Reserve Capacity or RC rating, you can turn that rating into an AH rating. The RC rating is defined as the number of minutes a fully charged battery at 80°F or 27ºC will discharge 25 amps until the battery drops below 10.5 volts. The RC rating provides an indication of the time that a vehicle with a normal electrical load will run for if the charging system (alternator) fails. To convert RC to AH rating at the 25 amp rate, multiple RC by .4167. The battery has both the RC and AH at 20 hours written on the label. Even allowing for Peukert's Law (Google it) kicking in... 105 X .4167 does not equal 220! It's actually 43 or so AH. You've been had.

Your normal trailer setup is a 12 volt system, in this case we are running two 6 volt batteries to get to 12 volts. This is called wiring is series. When batteries are wired in series you will have the negative lead to one battey hooked to the negative lead comeing out of the trailer, then the positive leave to that battery is connected to the negative lead to the next battery, the positive side of that battery is then connected to the positive lead of the trailer. Think of it like a flashlight and having two batteries touching end to end. I hope that made sense. Here'a video (not me), the very beginning explains it: kzread.info/dash/bejne/n4KlpaaNYKzafZc.html

I've heard of a few still using their Lithium batteries at the 10 year mark, albeit they are only 80% of what they where originally, and most folks don't take them down much below 20@ before recharging. It's all about maintenance...take good care of them, as in not allowing water into where they are, keeping the batteries & posts clean, and you're fine. You can lay Lithium LiFeP04's on their side, on the end as well, and they will work just as good as laying them on their bottoms with no issues. I've seen them at $950. so you do have to keep a keen eye out. That is of early 2019, as they may come down as time goes by as well.

I'm doing a Sienna minivan conversion. Realistically, could I have these batteries inside the van - probably under the bed? Or do they really need to be "outside the living area"?

  • @DoItYourselfDad

Best case scenario I would still try to get them out of the living area for safety's sake. These type of batteries need to be vented. Sealed vent-less batteries are more expensive but don't have the same issues if you were planning on putting them inside the living area.

Its been 2.5 years. are they still working OK? the Costco reviews say these batteries suck. ★ 1 out of 5 stars. Darrell · 4 months ago Not good I bought two of the golf cart batteries two and one half years ago for my RV, and after the first year they started to fail, I thought I left the power on, so I put them on the charger, they would not hold the charge, long story short it turns out most people that have purchased these have the same problems, they should last at a minimum 4 years. Costco needs to go back to interstate batteries and find out what the problem is and give the consumer some relief, and stop selling these, they are no good. ✘ No, I do not recommend this product. ★ 1 out of 5 stars. Miguel · 6 months ago Terrible batteries I purchased 6 for my golf cart and before the year they started to not hold a charge. Returned them just prior to 12 month warranty and got a new set which lasted about 14 months. I was just outside of the warranty period and tried to return to Costco and they said the warranty was only 12 months. I am aware that the warranty is only 12 months but the batteries are really poor quality and just die just after a year. They where aware that I had previous issues with the first set I purchased. Ive been a Costco member for a long time and they usually carry great merchandise but these batteries are not up to Costco standards. Costco is aware the batteries are poor quality and should give the customers a credit when they are selling faulty items like these 6 volt batteries. ✘ No, I do not recommend this product. ★ 1 out of 5 stars. Yupp · 6 months ago Didnt last long I guess mine lasted a little longer than the other reviews, but still not long enough. I bought 4 of these 26 months ago for our rv. They were well maintained with solar panels, and stored during the winter. If I would have known I would have only gotten 2 years out of these, I would have paid another couple hundred dollars to get the Trojans. Hopefully somebody else can learn from my mistakes because of this review. Oh well..... you live, you learn. ✘ No, I do not recommend this product. ★ 1 out of 5 stars. Mike · 9 months ago Worst Batteries Ever These lasted only 18 months with occasional use in our golf cart and I was surprised to learn their warranty is only 12 months. Previous sets of batteries have lasted 5-6 years easy. I love Costco and wish they would find another battery line to carry. ✘ No, I do not recommend this product. ★ 1 out of 5 stars. elha · 8 months ago Dont waste your money If you think this cheaper battery might last maybe 1 year less, dont. 2 golf carts in both cases original batteries lasted 7+ years, in both cases these lasted 4-5 years tops and last 2 years were miserable. In both cases they were well maintained and stored. Costco missed mark on these and offered nothing ✘ No, I do not recommend this product. ★ 1 out of 5 stars. Rory · 8 months ago Terrible battery life Bought two for our RV. They have a 12 month warranty. Ours lasted 14 months and totally died. Costco wouldn’t refund any amount. Do not buy these! ✘ No, I do not recommend this product. ★★ 2 out of 5 stars. WearyTraveler · 3 months ago 14 months... The 4 in my RV are 14 months old and they’re starting to not hold a charge. I haven’t had them tested but they’re gonna be toast soon... ★ 1 out of 5 stars. MACC · 9 months ago We bought 6 of these for our golf cart and they didn't even last 2 years. The batteries we replaced lasted over 6 years. ✘ No, I do not recommend this product.

I just sold the trailer they were on, they went with the trailer. We camped in it up to the weekend before we sold it. I debated moving them to the new (used) trailer. When the one on the new rig goes, I’m definitely replacing with more of these.

So I have two Interstate Batteries cost me around $500 232 amp hours each battery so it's a total of 464 amp hours for 500 bucks to get the same amount buying Costco batteries at 110 amp hours it would cost 910 bucks

I could be wrong, but I think wiring the batteries in Series like he has in this video only doubles the Voltage, not the Amps. So your setup would have 232 Amp hours and 12 Volts. Assuming your batteries are 6 Volts each. Wiring the batteries in Parallel (neg to neg, pos to pos) would double the Amp hours but Voltage remains the same as one battery. This is how people usually install two 12 Volt batteries. Stay gold.
