    ive been aware of the footsie handbook since i first started taking fighters seriously in 2009 but have never taken the time to apply it to my play.having a "class" like this to follow along with the material and having it directly applied and related to the current game im playing is great.

    Thank you Mikey! I'm in Plat now and taking a break from the grind to learn more from your series! Previously, I had read about the "attitude triangle" of Reactive (whiff punish) > Proactive (whiff) > Assertive (walk in) (> Reactive) and thought it's a straight RPS. Hearing you go in-depth about "if he's Reactive... then bait it out and become more Reactive than him..." "BUT if he's baiting you to try and out-Reactive you - this is the right time to be Assertive" - wow, I never thought there were multiple levels to attitudes, nor that RPSing it is best after the opponent has gone really deep into his current attitude. Love the content, looking forward to more!

    I love this so much. I come from Tekken, and i definitely know footsies and whiff punishment, but SF is so much more different than Tekken with how they implement even the simplest interaction. I never thought of throwing light attacks to bait reactions, or even would have guessed that people would miss a whiff punish due to a move being too fast. Thank you for helping me form a new perspective on fighting games.

  • @cacaw_0

    @cacaw_0

    Those things exist in Tekken man, you can bait a rage art with jabs for example. Also, every character has some moves with pushback making them safe even though they might be minus and look very punishable.

  • @PillowSensei

    @PillowSensei

    Жыл бұрын

    @@cacaw_0 well the push back thing I know already, yeah, but baiting whiff punishes is a lot less important than it is in SF. Like the example you just used for rage. I'd rather either skip rage entirely with a combo (I main Raven so every launch is like 50%), play super safe and vary my timing, or just run and timer scam. All three of those things being just as practical, if not more than whiffing a jab. Then you have the i13 rage arts that honestly you don't even want to challenge.

  • @cacaw_0

    @cacaw_0

    Жыл бұрын

    @@PillowSensei I get what u mean. Those things are pretty universal and apply to SF as well. And in Tekken you don't really won't to whiff ever because it's generally very dangerous. The point is to bait reactions and i'd say what is the most equivalent thing in Tekken is dash blocking instead of whiffing a move as you stand in place. Still, i'm sure i've seen tournament matches where someone baits with a quick move and punishes the reaction, but it's rare.

  • @PillowSensei

    @PillowSensei

    Жыл бұрын

    @@cacaw_0 I was thinking of dash blocking too actually haha. Movement is so strong in Tekken for so many reasons, but you're also right when you say that people so fall for some whiff punish baits. Thanks for hearing me out

  • @HorribleMuttonChops

    @HorribleMuttonChops

    Wtf are you talking about? Throwing light attacks to bait happens ALL the time in Tekken, arguably more than SF since it’s even more neutral and counter focused.

    OK why tf are we studying and examining 15 years old clips? As a new FG player with my fighting game experience been limited to SF6 and Guilty gear, this makes no sense to me. Maybe this video is not meant for me lol. At least I see u trying to mitigate that with the in game examples.

    The reason he's looking at old footage is because a lot the fundamentals are universal in all fighting games.

    Because fundamentals don't change? doesn't matter if its from 15 years ago, spacing, whiff punishies, baiting, footsies in general are concepts that won't change that much if at all. but yes, maybe it would be better to have recent clips instead.

    The fundamental aspects to the neutral don't change. But I agree looking at old games can be jarring/hard to follow along with for newer players which is the exact reason I'm trying to show SF6 examples right away after going through each chapter.

  • @3ASY355

    @3ASY355

    @@MikeyDLuffy Yes exactly it is really jarring looking at these footage as a new player and trying to extrapolate the info from them. Its so much easier to understand when for example saying X character whiff his crouching light kick while showing SF6 footage, as appose to saying that and showing some grainy footage from a decade and a half ago. To me it just look like stick figure fighting (a bit hyperbolic 😅)
