Very scholarly of you to cite Armada and his own higher level tactics. Armada himself was a teacher, so perhaps that experience manifested in that way for his gameplan of testing people. Our fighting styles draw upon our life.

this is great i realized as i watched this that ive been subconsciously doing this but i would benefit from giving it more deliberate thought like you outline here. i play manon, which means im a command throw pervert and im trying to land it as often as i can. i noticed awhile back that when i show how often i want to do this lots of players adapt by neutral jumping when they know a command grab could be coming. so sometimes i dont command grab, i just crouch block and if i see the jump i c.HP -> cr.HP and snap them back to the ground again and try to meaty them next time but there are so many ways players can counter my command grab that i now realize i havent devoted a lot of thought to. i often get put into that "exam" you mentioned and end up failing it since i dont know how X, Y, Z, character can effectively react im excited to lab later now. i have an empty notebook that could use some scribbling

This is excellent and reminds me very much of how higher-level Marisa players explained using Gladius to me. Layer one: use Gladius to keep them away from you. Layer two: Now that they’re scared to approach or press a button, walk forward and take space. Pressure them on block. Layer three: Once they start pressing again, Gladius is back, baby. I can’t always execute it in a real match, but understanding those various flow charts across a character’s game plan is huge.

Literally only the first example with the DP during a throw is an option select. Everything else has to do with learning to prioritize important options and reacting. Not sure if these kinds of comments are people who try to sound smart but don't actually know what they're talking about, or people that just comment after watching for 2 minutes.

I think they were trying hard to not make the 09ers and 016ers cry. People keep saying he's new and he hasn't been labbed enough. I call bs. Lab all you want I don't see how labbing is going to affect that low health. They say it doesn't matter much and yes, this is true...when he had lots of tools, which he doesn't have in SF6. Meh drive rush, raging demon available at 25% health. A whole plethora of stuff as mentioned already but that stupid charged fireball...as a Kimberly player as soon as I see that charging starting I just run slide him or teleport on top of him with a big combo ready. Definitely low end of top tier. Way too many bad matchups and thus inconsistent. I don't want to reference Daigo as he is no longer the player he used to be. But I watch his streams and when he was Ken he was way more consistent usually in the top 30's of legend. With Akuma...one day it's 30, one day it's 200, hell, I even saw him drop down to MR. It's all over the place with Akuma.

Akuma is pretty meh in 6. Way way way too honest. His damage mid screen is trash and has 0 corner carry n side switches. Fireball game is very good but 1 jump in and your tournament could end.

I think you're totally wrong about Tokido persuing playing Akuma. He likes to play cheap characters, period. Akuma has historically been a cheap character in most games (especially in sf4). In sf2 he played Vega and Boxer, sf3 Urien and Chun, sf4 Akuma, sf5 Akuma only in the first character season where he was strong, Urien and Boxer afterwards.
