So if I just want to bypass HDCP for my PS5 to my Elgato 4k60 mk.2, I JUST technically need the one splitter? Just making sure lol, and it will output 4k and 60fps using this setup on the elgato from PS5? Been searching around forever to find a good single splitter, almost bought the llano bi directional splitter but was unsure if it worked or not with HDCP bypass to elgato. But if the single splitter you showed lets me bypass hdcp to play at 4k60 on my elgato ill happily grab this now :)

Thanks for the tutorial. I have been using the HDView (I own about 16 of them) and Hauppauge HD PVR Rocket (own 5) for years. Wondering if you have any experience with Hauppauge products and what you think of them? I only capture in 1080p for Movies and it works great with a 99% success rate. Unfortunately, the Rocket seems to have issue lately with newer Flash Drives. My old ones are starting to ware out and had to buy new ones. With the newer flash drives my success rate has dropped to less than 1%. I like the standalone feature. If I can't get any support from the company, I may be in the market for a new capture device. Really need stand alone, any recommendations?

You mean you're seeing that on your display or capture device? In general, HDCP 2.2 is the version of the standard. HDCP 1.4 is an older version, which wasn't as "secure" as 2.2 is, so some displays that supported HDCP 1.4 don't support the newer version, which is why HDCP 2.2 -> 1.4 downconverters are needed for those displays.

I use a Sony A7C as my webcamera, but I don't feed it through my elgato. Doing that will also utilize more of your GPU that could otherwise be used for running your games. I use a simple USB capture dongle like this one for my camera: amzn.to/3tuY8nR It only captures in 1080p, although it supports a 4k input signal, but that's really all I need for my videos. I'm not sure why the camera hdmi output would have hdcp on it, that seems odd to me. If it works sometimes, but then freezes or drops out, I would guess that's because the hd60s+ doesn't have onboard processing, so your GPU has to handle the encoding for your camera AND the game you're playing. I would guess that's the issue.

@@AkalyptosUC The hd60s+ does not do encoding on the card, it simply passes it into your PC and offloads processing to the GPU. There are other capture devices that do onboard encoding. I got the hd60s+ to capture console gameplay, so letting my GPU do the encoding during capture isn't a problem, since I'm not playing PC games at the same time. For capturing PC gameplay, I use the native capture from my Radeon GPU. As for the camlink, yes, it does the encoding itself. It only encodes to 1080p, which is why it can stay cheap and run over USB 3.0. If OBS is getting overloaded, it's likely because your GPU is being overworked, NOT because of USB devices. You may also need to adjust your OBS capture settings. Again, a problem with PC games, is that OBS will use your GPU to encode AS WELL. Your best bet for capturing PC gameplay is to either use a second PC (expensive, yeesh!) or let your GPU do the capturing instead of OBS. What GPU do you have? Both Radeon and Geforce have good built in capture utilities.

That's VERY strange. Showing up green is typically not an HDCP issue, but could be a resolution switching issue instead. Sometimes I've had switches or displays get confused when the source resolution changes (this typically comes with a flicker from the source device). When you have the green screen, try unplugging the HDMI cords from the switch and the display, then reconnect them, and see if it forces the devices to re-check the resolution. Sometimes that fixes it for me. In general, I try to keep resolutions from swapping, so also see if you can configure upscaling so the resolution doesn't drop from 4K.

Did not work for me unfortunately. (@ the new splitter) I have a few devices plugged into an ankyo receiver and it did not fix my hdcp issue. Ironically, I can plug in a cheapo HDMI usb capture card and the video comes through but looks blurry. Using my nicer avermedia capture card I get a hdcp error. With this being said, I'll buy the 2.2 -> 1.4 converter and see if I can get the setup to work with that. If that doesn't work I'll buy the suggested splitter for that combo.

If you don't need 4k, you can get plenty of 1080p splitters that will strip HDCP by themselves. The single splitter setup only works for my Elgato, NOT my Avermedia. My LGP2+ needs the full setup from my earlier video I linked. Good luck!

@@WheezysGaming Color me impressed! I was skeptical after multiple false starts from other sources, but that first splitter you linked really seems to make the magic happen! It arrived today, and I'm 46 minutes into a recording and going strong. I might pick up a second one just in case. Maybe even a third! BTW: I'm using the Elgato HD60 X, and just the AV Access splitter. EDIT: After a prolonged record, I can say it works about 95-98%. There are some times the video came in choppy or dropped altogether. I'm still waiting for the other solution to come in. I'll test that next.

5-30-22 - HDCP SUCKS, BIG TIME !!! GREAT TEACHER AND VERY GOOD CONTENT, BUT I AM UNIQUE IN THAT I AM APPARENTLY THE ONLY ONE LEFT ON THE PLANET THAT WANTS TO SAVE MY FAVORITE SHOWS AND PERFORMANCES FROM MY DIRECT TV BOX, AND ROKU - (SINCE DIRECT-TV BOXES HAVE A HABIT OF FAILING AND LOSING ALL YOUR SAVED FAVORITES, EVENTUALLY) - I SEE NO ONE ELSE IN THE COMMENTS ON ANY OF THESE HDCP VIDEOS THAT IS LIKE ME, AND NOT INTO GAMING WHATSOEVER........I AM NOT INTO GAMING OR FILE SHARING, PERIOD !!! BUT I WISH TO TAKE THE STUFF I PAID FOR AND GET IT TO MY MICRO FLASH DRIVE, TO PUT IN MY WALLET AND TAKE WITH ME ON THE ROAD FOR WORK, OR PLAY ON MY LAP TOP WHERE EVER I WANT, LIKE DIFFERENT ROOMS WITH THE BIG TV, OR COMPUTER ROOM ETC. - APPARENTLY I AM THE ONLY ONE IN THE WORLD LEFT THAT WANTS TO BE ABLE TO PAUSE A RECORDING WITH A REMOTE TO CONTINUE A TRACK A FEW SECONDS, OR MINUTES LATER, WITHOUT HAVING TO GET UP OFF THE CHAIR AND GO OVER TO MY EQUIPMENT TO HIT STOP AND RECORD, ABSOLUTELY BLOWS MY MIND YOU CAN NO LONGER BUY A DEVICE THAT CAN DO THIS, SINCE MY EZ-RECORDER 130 IS STARTING TO FAIL, OR MAYBE IT'S MY SPLITTER, NOT SURE YET, BUT I THINK MY SET-UP GOT MESSED UP CAUSE THEY FORCED ME TO BUY A PAL BLU-RAY PLAYER, SINCE A LOT OF THE SERIES AND MOVIES I WANTED WERE NOT AVAILABLE ON NTSC IN AMERICA, SO I GOT THE EXTRA BLU-RAY PLAYER, AND IT HAD NETFLIX BUILT INTO IT, AND I ACCESSED NETFLIX THROUGH THIS PLAYER AND I THINK THEY UPDATED IT, AUTOMATICALLY, AND TOOK THE PLAYER TO THE NEXT LEVEL AND DEFEATED MY SPLITTER, I THINK THAT'S HOW THEY F***ED ME, AND NOW I'M TEMPTED (IF I HAD ANY BALLS) TO PUT ALL MY STUFF I RECORDED OVER THE YEARS ON FILE SHARING, AND I COMPLETELY NOW UNDERSTAND SOMEONE ELSE'S COMMENT "THIS IS WHY WE PIRATE" - I'M THINKING THE BIG MOVIE STUDIOS MUST HAVE BOUGHT OUT AVERMEDIA & HAUPPAUGE ETC. AND SPLITTERS THAT USE TO WORK AND THAT'S WHY YOU CAN'T BUY THE STUFF THAT WORKS ANYMORE, BUT ALSO A LOT OF WHY YOU CAN'T BUY THE STUFF ANYMORE IS THAT PEOPLE ARE CONTENT WITH THEIR RECEIVER BOXES THAT RECORD WHAT THEY WANT, AND THAT'S GOOD ENOUGH FOR THEM, AND NOT CARING THAT THOSE RECORDERS WILL BREAK IN A COUPLE YEARS AND THEY WILL LOSE ALL THEIR FAVORITE STUFF, AND PERHAPS I AM THE ONLY ONE LEFT THAT WANTS TO GET MY STUFF OUT OF THOSE BOXES, SINCE I HAD PLANNED ON OUTLIVING THEM, AND THERE IS SOME STUFF I WANT TO KEEP FOREVER !!! SO ANYONE KNOW OF A GOOD REPLACEMENT FOR EZ-RECORDER 130, THAT HAS A REMOTE THAT CAN PAUSE A RECORDING, SINCE THEY DON'T SELL IT ANYMORE, THE ONLY ONES I'VE SEEN THAT HAVE A REMOTE ONLY PAUSE ON PLAYBACK, NOT RECORD, AND IF IT'S NOT TOO MUCH TO ASK, A SPLITTER THAT WILL ENABLE IT TO WORK, THANKS, AND GOD BLESS ALL THE WONDERFUL GEEKS THAT ARE SMART ENOUGH TO STAY ONE STEP AHEAD OF THE GREEDY STUDIO BASTARDS THAT WON'T LET US DO WHAT WE WANT WITH OUR OWN STUFF, THAT WE PAID FOR !!! (SORRY MY COMMENTS ARE ALWAYS LONG, AND I ALREADY KNOW IN ADVANCE THAT YOU HATE ME, AND DON'T LIKE HOW I CHOOSE TO TYPE !!!) P.S. I WOULD LOVE TO JUST BE ABLE TO BUY THE SERIES AND SHOWS AND MOVIES I'M INTERESTED IN ON BLU-RAY, AND NOT HAVE TO PAY THE MONTHLY SUBSCRIPTION, BUT MUCH OF THEM ARE NOT AVAILABLE ANYWHERE, ESPECIALLY THE STREAMING SERVICES ORIGINAL CONTENT !!! P.S.S. I'VE ALREADY BOUGHT A FEW DIFFERENT SPLITTERS SINCE I STARTED HAVING TROUBLE, AND NONE OF THEM HAVE WORKED FOR ME, BUT THEY WORKED GREAT FOR THE STUDIOS, SINCE THE ERROR CODE COMES UP AND PERFECTLY BLOCKS ME, THEY WORK GREAT FOR THEM, BUT NOT FOR ME !!!

I have to agree that if you want to save media content, your best bet is to get a VPN and download what you want to keep. Capturing it all yourself will be a HUGE time investment. My full setup WILL allow you to capture most content yourself, but if building a media catalog is your goal, I would use a VPN, torrents, and Plex. HDCP punishes people who PAY for digital content most, because of exactly what you're describing. At least you can feel better knowing that you paid for the content you're downloading at least once.

@@chpnlzt I would love to know what they use as well. My full setup using the HDCP 1.4 downconverter should work with most capture devices. This simplified setup works with a smaller subset, such as my Elgato HD60 Pro You can then take your captured content and stream it using Plex to any device.
