Also on a slightly separate note would hdmi 2.1 cords work with this set up even if im not trying to use the ability of 4k 120hz of said cords? I have one of those cords is why I was wondering. The switch has an advertised compatibility with HDMI 2.0. 4k 120Hz and higher are HDMI 2.1, so it MAY not support that (unless it can just push the extra bandwidth, which may be possible, I can't confirm). 1080 @ 120Hz would probably work just fine.

    The one thing I don’t understand is, why do you need the HDCP 2.2 splitter between the HDMI switch and 2.2 to 1.4 converter? You aren’t splitting the signal so what is it doing, functionally? Does the system not work without it?

  • @WheezysGaming

    @WheezysGaming

    It is the ONE critical component, and I believe it's because that splitter is doing the HDCP handshake. Other HDCP 2.2 splitters I tested DID NOT work, but for some reason this particular one manages to perform the handshake and not pass it down the line.

  • @dooshmasta

    @dooshmasta

    @@WheezysGaming interesting, to interpret what you’re saying, the 2.2 bang switch simply passes the HDCP to the 2.2 splitter and the console and splitter shake hands and the consoles don’t see where the signal goes from there? And you basically take the HDMI 2.0 video signal and drop it down to HDMI 1.3 / HDCP 1.4 signal and feed that to your destinations? Is that what the ViewHD splitter is also doing? Does it perform a handshake and not require a separate handshake down stream from each device? I’ve been able to turn off HDCP with AV video switches (like an Analog Way QuickVu) but could never figure this stuff out on the consumer level. The only way I’ve bypassed this was to go VGA out and convert that signal to HDMI.

    Is it a switch or a splitter? If it's a switch, the output that is currently holding the connection should do the HDMI handshake to set the resolution. If it's a splitter, you will need one that has and EDID setting that will let one of the outputs talk at 1080p while the other uses 4k.

    @@WheezysGaming Hi! After some trouble shooting, I was able to fix the problem. It turns out that the initial switch is very important. If it’s faulty, like mine was, or not attacked the device will default to the lowest video quality device it is attached to and state that other resolutions are not supported. In this case the HDCP converter and 1.4 switch. From my experience: HDCP converter= 4K no hdr image detection. HDCP converter + 1.4 splitter= 1080p image detection 4K/HDR splitter+ HDCP converter+ 1.4 splitter= 4K/HDR image detection. If the first splitter supports HDR, the device will then output an HDR signal that can then passthrough completely through the converter and the splitter. Using an absolute receiver will still require the initial hdr switch compatible switch. I hope this makes sense and that this hasn’t already been explained. Thank you!

    Which splitters say this? Most companies won't openly advertise that feature because stripping HDCP isn't "allowed". some chinese companies claim to strip HDCP, but that's version 1.4 and most recent devices like tv set top boxes have version 2.2 i guess you can convert 2.2 tot 1.4 and try. p.s. i still wonder why you are not allowed to split / duplicate a tv signal in your own home. i mean with a device like HDMI Cloner (alliance) you can record tv and watch at the same time.@@WheezysGaming

    I haven't used an HDMI to AV converter (I currently have my PS2 setup through an AV to HDMI converter), so I can't comment on what that error might be without some testing. First, I would make sure it IS an HDMI to AV converter, and not the other way around. My next suspicion is that a VCR simply can't SUPPORT a 1080p or even 720p signal. VCRs were around in the days of 4:3 aspect ratio TVs and 480p or lower resolutions. My suggestion would be to get a simple capture device like this one, and record to a computer: amzn.to/3n6n5lc If your TV Box has HDCP protection you will likely need the equipment I explained to strip that. But I would test with just a simple capture device first (1080p content isn't HDCP 2.2) and see what happens.

I've tried all manner of configurations, adding and removing various components, including various other switches and splitters not used in the video. I'm not sure if anything has been changed. Have you tried ONLY using the second splitter? (The dumb splitter?) With the resolution only being 1080p, the signal might not be in HDCP 2.2, but only 1.4. The most important component is the first HDCP 2.2 splitter for a 4k signal, since none of the other ones I have used work. And when you say "almost exactly", what is different?

    @@WheezysGamingAs I said, 1080p signal and the older Avermedia recorcder are as the input to the fist splitter are the only major differences. The only other thing I can maybe think is the record mode I'm using. It wasn't clear in the video if you were using PC or PC-less capture, but I'm using PC-less, which may be the problem? Edit: It may also be worth noting that with certain configurations of splitters the capture card acts like it has a signal and then immediately shuts down.
