Hate it. Like, genuinely, genuinely hate it. I think it’s only “fine” if you completely remove it from context. It doesn’t end the trilogy or the saga in a satisfying way, and is in fact thematically detrimental to the entire point of Star Wars. Last Jedi, love it or hate it, was thematically building the sequel trilogy to end in a place that *truly* offered a powerful, unexpected, but appropriate conclusion to the many disparate ideas and themes set up in both the OT and the prequels, and ROS reneged on literally ALL of it for the sake of shallow fanservice that leaves every character in the movie (literally every single one: Rey, Poe, Finn, Kylo, BB8, Rose, 3PO, everyone) underserved and kinda ruined. It’s genuinely not a movie I can in good conscious view as the end of the trilogy or saga. I’ve got to kinda look at it as it’s own completely separate big budget fanfilm. This movie hurt my feelings.

I actually quite enjoyed it, but I also agree with you. I was a big fan of the force bond Rey and Kylo had, but I wasn't a reylo shipper (he did and said some pretty messed things to her so I wasn't really feeling a romantic relationship between the two). I really liked the Last Jedi and its ideas, so I was pretty disappointed when those were thrown in a ditch. I loved force-sensitive Finn, but that poor boy really didn't do shit in this movie. I actually liked all the new characters, but they were all pretty useless and they deserved better. Also they did Rose dirty.

Same really. I could have forgiven everything if they’d given Ben and Rey that happy ending. It was all set up from TLJ. They had Adam Driver..If there was anyone who could play a redeemed Ben Solo convincingly it was him (and in the short time he was on screen, he was incredible). They had Adam and Daisy’s chemistry. Poor Ben and Rey. Tros ended as a tragedy. And I’m struggling with it.

Actually is an enjoyable movie, it has a lot of script problems, and just pretends that TLJ doesn't exist. But it could've been just a movie with problems. But the ending... My God, it wad a like they spit in the Skywalker legacy. How can you kill Ben Solo? the LAST Skywalker, who finally did the right choice, and who had the opportunity that Anakin lost. It's SO depressing!!! This movie just leave you hopeless. Which was the whole point if you just kill him? and Rey ending ALONE? (the visual dictionary of TROS said about her ending: increasingly isolated Rey. WTF?!!)

Instead of all those random ships showing up at the end, fin and that girl should've convinced the stormtroopers in the final order to turn on palpatine. It would've been way more emotional than random people finally standing up to the empire for some reason (even though they didn't for all the movies prior), and you'd still have all those cool ship cgi explosion action stuff too

I’m so glad I stumbled upon this video! I have had a hard time trying to really put it into words how I feel about TROS, and they way you described your experience is pretty spot on for me. Especially when you talked about the “almost happy ending part”. I remember thinking the same thing, I had felt the pacing was a little weird, I wasn’t fully loving the movie yet but in those scenes with Rey and Ben I starting changing my mind and I was loving it. I thought regardless of everything else, we will have a happy ending for these two. Then five minutes later I was stunned and really wasn’t able to process the rest of the film. I just felt so shocked that they killed him off like that, without even giving him any dialogue as Ben. I really think my feeling about the movie would be completely different if Ben Solo had lived. But I find it difficult to flat out say I dislike any Star Wars movie, I certainly enjoyed parts of it and I wanted to be happy, so I also hope in time that I develop a different perspective of the movie. I guess we’ll see. Thank you for your video though!

POINTS ARE BEING MADE! I agree with pretty much everything you said! My biggest problem with TROS was the messy plot, poor character development, and of course, the decision to kill Ben Solo. Like you said, I'm just so bored with the idea that a "villain" can't be redeemed/forgiven without dying in the end. And anyway, we already saw that with Darth Vader in the Return of the Jedi...do we really need to see it happen again to his grandson? Just lazy writing in my opinion.

Always love your critiques ! Awesome video! The Kylo Ren part wasn’t great how they did it but I understand it to an extent. It’s almost meant to appear as a tragedy of a torn hero or villain. He goes through life trying to figure out who he is and where he belongs and he does that just in the end as everything is coming together. He morally redeems himself and fights for what’s right but dies in the process eliminating any future that could of made him his happiest. But he dies in the presence of someone he loved most and died to save and protect. That was my read of it to show how sometimes in life everything comes together just before you essentially end/die and it isn’t meant to have endurance or lasting effect which is kinda a beautiful in a tragedy type way which is what I think they were trying to link it to.

Thank you for this. The film was made by OT super fanboys who don't realise how the OT came to be. George did new stuff all the time, tried to say different things with each film. Not shamelessly mirror what he did before. JJ doesn't seem to understand the point of the rhyming angle of SW. It isn't to fucking repeat the exact thing again.

I hated TROS. I'm a casual SW fan, but how they ended this movie irritated me and did a diservice to the whole franchise. Cheap nostalgia and fast-paced action pieces to disguise another bad sci-fi/fantasy blockbuster. Idk why they got the writer for Batman v Superman and Godzilla: KOTM (both bad movies) for the conclusion of a saga.

I think some people are thinking too hard about it. It was a fun movie. It’s better when you have loads of lore known in the Star Wars universe and can appreciate the light vs dark side of the force dilemma come to an end. But I do like seeing everyone else’s perspective. There was clearly a lot of love and thought put into this movie and that a lone I can appreciate.

Wow these are literally my exact thoughts... I remember that feeling of elation when I thought for a brief moment that they were going to give us the ending that we wanted (and that Ben Solo deserved) only for it to be ripped away seconds later, effectively ruining everything that came before it. I've never been so devastated by a film, and not in the tragic romance way I think they actually thought they were pulling off- just devastated at the outrageously poor storytelling choices. I'm curious about your thoughts on the (increasingly evidence-supported) theory that the ending was actually changed very late in the game of the editing process. We already know now that the very last shot of Rey was just reused footage from earlier in the film with the background changed; couple that with the strangeness of the angles/editing of the final scene and how bizarrely sudden Ben's 'death' was and the fact that Rey doesn't really seem to react to it, etc. and it seems like something completely different was originally filmed. I can't begin to understand why this would/needed to happen and I'm honestly waiting for someone from the main cast to spill the beans because it has to happen eventually

I'm not gonna lie, I rather hated the way it went; I didn't feel it clicked with me, much like the rest of the movie. I disagree with you on the notion that tros would be a good movie on it’s own. Everything else tho 👌🏻👌🏻 The reason why the hand touching scene reads as an arthouse sex scene (brilliant description btw) is because it’s intimate. I read Kylo’s clothes as an armour, and so far we’ve only seen him remove his helmet, and that was more a symbol of his Vader wannabe if anything. So him removing a glove, a piece of his armour and touching Rey skin to skin, for the first time? It’s hella intimate. (Okay I just remembered the shirtless scene but I’ve always read that scene as 1. fanservice and 2. gotta shower, even in space and 3. making Rey react awkwardly to it loses any intimacy the scene may have.) I also hate that they killed Ben and I’ve said it in another review as well but it’s because Kylo Ren died when Rey stabbed him on the Death Star. She killed Kylo Ren and healed Ben Solo. But then they killed Ben Solo as well. Kylo got redeemed but Ben never got the chance to atone for what he did as Kylo.

There were so many things left behind, why Rey never went to the dark side was so dumb, like why even add it if nothing happens?! Also what was up with almost every female character seeming like a love interest to Finn, and Finn’s character arches were all resolved in Last Jedi so he really had no story in this one rather than just yelling Rey’s name (also they never resolved what he was gonna say to Rey, almost like they forgot about it). Kylo/Ben’s story was all over the place and even though he’s the only character i really enjoyed this series i didn’t know how to feel about him at parts, but he for sure shouldn’t have died (should’ve been Rey or neither of them). The end is the most angering part to me however, Rey had no connection to the Skywalker name in my personal opinion, i mean yeah she worked closely with them but at the same time not that close... Honestly i would’ve enjoyed if she said Palpatine instead because it’s like turning something evil in something bright and hopeful.

I rarely ever comment on videos, but you conveyed my thoughts about the movie very well. I started as very anti-reylo, but before going to the cinema for TROS, I rewatched The Last Jedi and completely changed my mind. I started to absolutely love their chemistry. Throne room scene? Masterpiece. Then came the time to see TROS. I was hyped, but tried to have no expectations. And I loved most of the movie, even thought it was questionable, loved reylo. I completely agree with you about the ending! "Holy shit they've done it" and then Ben dies. This is so disappointing and a very lazy way to end the story. + your take about other characters: yes!!! And in a year’s time, five years time-I will loathe what JJ and Chris Terrio constructed out of absolute unoriginality and cowardice because of the fandom menace. They killed the last Skywalker-a redeemed Ben Solo. Cruel and it made no sense to. This was a disrespectful retcon plain and simple. And frankly, TLJ and Johnson was courageous and gave us more mythos food to digest while still challenging the way we think and feel about what Star Wars is and could be outside of the main saga. But loud mouth individuals would rather sulk and argue about who shot first, pew pew, spacey ship wars and glowy sticks to give a shit about actual DEPTH.

Where a Palpatine Ma-Rey-Sue identifies her self as a skywalker, stealing Lukes name, Lukes Lightsaber, Lukes home and Lukes Twin Sunset for her own. So it's been about 2 months in and nope I greatly dislike this movie which is an accomplishment since I was mostly apathetic towards the prequels. I am sad that so many characters are wasted in this movie; I am sad that Leia, Luke and Han died for nothing (yes Ben went back to the light but his character definitely had not fully healed); I am disappointed that instead of moving towards a balance in the force with a ying-yang dynamic we got the classic light vs darkness motif. I thought the whole point of the sequel trilogy was to bring the Force to equilibrium with shades of grey and not have an extreme light and dark dichotomy and yet it seems TROS shifted right back to that. Why wouldn't they give us a happy ending? Star Wars is a fairy tale. I know that Vader died but his death felt earned; like his death was a suitable ending to his character. I did NOT get that impression with Ben.
