This topic reminds me of this quote: "What disappointed me most about First Man, was how sad everybody was. Everybody inside was glum, and space flight is joyful, it's hilarious, it's magic. You can fly, you're seeing the whole world. These guys were going to the moon, they had a lot of responsibility, but where is the spark of joy that is there in every second that you're on board a spaceship?" - Retired Astronaut Chris Hadfield

Thats a good point and a necessity for space travel i'd think. But most these movies are about the extreme cases of survival in space (haven't seen first man though). Still makes for great drama & tension building, deep thoughts, etc. Its fun to me lol

A lot of people didn’t like it but because nothing else was running in theaters at the time I went to see it in IMAX. I was one of maybe 4 people in the entire theater. I love that movie and I think the experience in the cinema elevated it a lot. It’s far from your conventional space movie and It’s great because of it. Not a feel good story. Not a lot of big action moments but a lot of visual drama. It won’t be a classic. It’s going to be a cult classic. To special a movie to be popular.

Because it’s dark, empty, and unending. Humans can’t comprehend not having control of ones self in the middle of space as a fun experience. Then theres all the things that could go wrong. It’s very reminiscent of the fear of the deep sea for people. That’s just my view before watching the video.

Passengers in an interesting flip on the alone in space idea. While it's more of an adventure movie with more humor and romance, and Chris Pratt's character is sad and alone briefly before waking up Jennifer Lawrence's character I feel like it tackles similar ideas of existentialism, isolationism, and the human spirit. While Passenger's had them playing basketball and going on dates bringing a lighter side to being stuck in space and fighting not to die before reaching the new planet I feel like the movie was big on human's will to survive and make the best out of situations. Not saying Passengers was the greatest sci-fi movie but the Sad Spaceman Cinema made me think of it. Another great video Roby!

Back in 2014 (I was 14), my dad and I went to the movie theater at the mall and he asked me which film I wanted to watch, either Interstellar or The Amazing Spider-man 2. I chose TASM 2 and have regretted never having seen Interstellar in cinemas to this very day. I love TASM 2 but man if could go back...

Don't feel bad. I doubt Interstellar was made for teenagers anyway. I mean, sure, it would have been an amazing movie with enough action and mysteries to keep young audiences at the edge of their seats; but to appreciate the work of art it is better if the spectators have experienced some of the emotional and existential motifs addressed in its narrative, soundtrack, and pictures. Not to mention it demands certain knowledge of cinematic language one can only acquire by watching films from different genres and decades through their life. In conclusion, I doubt you would have watched and enjoyed the film the same way as if you watch it as an adult.

Perhaps a correlation can be drawn to "sad seaman" movies - where the men sail further and further from home in some search for meaning in life. ....or even "sad soldier" films where some loner goes off to war to escape the society he was raised in.
