I'm about 4 and a half minutes in, and the producer who brought the creative team together and was the only one who knew what a spider man was, dies just a moment before signing the contract Wtf? How crazier will this story get?

Seeing it live, once Norman Osborn became the Green Goblin the show got a lot more fun. I can't believe you didn't talk about the Lizard's costume though

Dude that intro hit me with nostalgia. I’m from australia too and travelled to New York in June/July of 2013 and saw spiderman on Broadway. It was also around the time that they were filming the amazing Spider-Man 2

All I can remember from that weird looking musical was seeing the news talk about that recorded stage accident you occasionally showed in the video. And yup, the musical’s story and production sounds as crazy as I remember.

As a life long spidey fan I remember being super confused but bizarrely interested in this musical and as I’ve gotten older I’ve come to kind of love it, it’s in a similar vain of the 60s Batman show with the campy kind of flare if you look at it expecting the camp it’s actually a fun retelling of the first raimi movie, I think it was ahead of its time. Also just so everyone is aware I’m talking about the 2nd version of the show.

I remember when I was working across the street from where they were filming the festival scene of the first Spider-Man movie with “Tobey Maguire”. That movie took forever too finish making, because someone stole the Spider-Man suits from their storage place. I had heard that they were worth $25.000 dollars each. Then someone who was working on building the festival scene set, died when a crane toppled over and hit some sort of hanging platform cage which swung and hit one guy, while nearly hitting another guy, who was also working on the New York festival building set, killing the guy that got hit. Then the authorities had to conduct two separate investigations for both of those incidents, which caused that movie's release, to take awhile.

I was thinking about this show recently in the context of another musical, Chess. Both were written by successful musicians who were not versed in the conventions of musical theatre. Chess had problems and closed early, but had the advantage of way superior music, wasn't a financial black hole and didn't nearly kill half its stunt crew.

What did we all learn? Marvel comics don’t make good musicals unless they’re being parodied in shows like Robot Chicken or Arrested Development. Like if you got the references at the last part.

To be honest I I like the fact that somebody like Reeve Carney was Spider-Man and I do like all the songs in the show sure it has it ups and downs but it's not the worst show the worst show was if everything was falling down Spider-Man I guess they just didn't know how to make a musical as insane as The Lion King but it still was good for what it was

Previews are after the show has been rehearsed and finished, but before it officially opens. Its the equivalent of a cold opening before a grand opening of a new store or restaurant. A show having more previews is a signal that something isn't working and that its not on schedule.
