Just kidding my favourite one is interstellar and tenet and Nolan’s bubba dog time travel, I eat shit, dick size don’t matter and the most famous one dogs are larger than cats. It's exactly this intimate aspect of time travel that always fascinated me, not the external conflict, but the internal change within the characters going throught the experience. I think it's awesome when writers connect the time travel aspect to the themes of the story, such as the films Arrival and About Time, thus becoming not just a plot convenience/gimmick, but a central piece of the message.

Coincidentally, I just finished bingeing all three seasons of Dark. Many modern time travel movies are deterministic... the characters fulfill their destiny on the way to avoid it, or realise there is no way they can change their destiny without paying some horrible price. Interstellar and Life is Strange are like this too. I wonder how this reflects on modern society.

The end of that- *exhale* ..man oh man. So incredibly beautiful. I am truly grateful your channel exists, it has very literally profoundly changed my life and while in the past i would have been to embarrassed to share very philosophical or emotional or straight up just not mainstream content that talks about very personal things in a profoundly meaningful and relatable way with anyone else, i now have the courage to do just that. I share these with many of my friends, or at least, i try to. All i can do is send them the link, they gotta click it. However those in my immediate life i try to show first hand, or now watch a new one for the first time with them, in the hopes that it might lead them to question their lives and indeed question the very ways in which they think and construct what they call their life like it did me, and that they may be profoundly moved to make meaningful, positive change in themselves and in doing so, manifest positive change in the environment around them. It is such a struggle being a human being.. From such a young age, my awareness was bombarded with thoughts i didnt want to be aware of- probably caused by my depression that was caused by a need to escape the present moment because my parents fighting and treating me second to my sister because i am younger, was just too much to deal with, so to cope i turned inward to my thoughts, which unfortunately wasnt much better. My self talk was completely negative and utterly distressing. Since i was just a child.. i didnt know how to turn it off, or more abstractly but also literally, to look away from the thoughts. I always struggled with thoughts of the inevitability of death, and the possibility of dying at any moment and not being able to do things over.. It has since gotten better, in learning and consciously choosing to be more mindful and present- ive gained some skill looking away from those thoughts. Of course they are always there though, because they relate to what is known and inevitable, and i must admit lately- as im sure im not alone in this- with the pandemic, and my country's election that literally almost sacrificed Democracy and quite honestly still has time to do so, it has become increasingly more difficult to look away from those thoughts about death and there being no do overs (at least that we know of, who knows, maybe when you die, your consciousness merges with that of another self in the infinite multiverse that is either a quantum multiverse or relativistic multiverse), to the point where ive been looking at getting back into therapy. I truly cant imagine what kind of person i would still be if this channel never existed. Thank you for choosing to do what you do, and not choosing to go back in time and not do it :P

I find myself swinging in and out of being okay with our situation. Not really the current situation with covid and the election, but rather the fact that this will all end at some point. My existence. The quintessence of existentialism. Its like this pendulum that swings back and forth between living in the moment, being content and full of anxiety mixed with anger and fear. I think that each of those sides are just as necessary as the other. At some point we learn to dance with time(life), or we don't. One thing is for certain; here and now we can choose what path we take. You always have such a beautiful message. Thank you

@Janks Wah, but we don't really get to chose. Much of the 'choice' has already been determined by time and people. I would love to be on good terms with my mother for example but that just is not possible. Not without completely rewriting my existence from before my conception... My mother smoking and drinking before and during her pregnancy with me for example. Her getting Rubella and the disabilities I was born with as a consequence. Her own upbringing and the divisions that have evolved from it. I spent a year in therapy only to conclude that "it is what it is" and the best I can do is try to learn to live with it. I will never have a meaningful relationship with my mother. It's entirely impossible because of who we both are as people. So the choices we have are only an illusion of choice. We actually have limited free will... Certainly with anything that actually matters. There is no point in my life that I feel I could even go back to and do things differently that would have a different outcome. It would require a complete re-write of history! It would require me and my mother to be entirely different people! This is just one life thread of very many... My being born transgender (and subsequent mid-life transition), dyslexic, autistic, partially deaf and blind... All these elements have shaped who I am as a person, my life struggles, my world view. And while it has given me an insight few others have, I remain, unable to change any of it.

when I turned 31 I had gone through a trauma where I lived in excruciating pain for almost a decade. I couldn't walk unaided. I created a mental prison for myself and eventually found a way to rid myself of most of the pain and walk again freely. That place where I went to in my mind was like a time trap and came out of it in my early 40's. I wrote a book about my experience but it's so hard to explain. This kind of thing happens to coma patients and people who have been incarcerated. In a deep sense one loses those years. I sometime reminisce but I never dwell on those ten years that I missed. I know I can't travel back. Which is why the movie About Time is important to me. It's a good reminder for me to focus on what I believe is important in life.

These are some of the best presented philosophical video essays I've seen anywhere. Clearly thought out, well edited, and using popular media as the visual medium is genius. I had that dream also. Except I didn’t regret the life I lost, I was just excited to have a chance at a different path. I guess it was just the old, “If I knew then what I know now” situation. I was so disappointed when I woke up.

I had a similar reoccurring dream years ago: that I had to do the last year of school all over again, because my graduation was somehow invalid / missed an official stamp of approval. That I needed to write all the tests again. And then I failed to show up for them the 2nd time, or I did but got even worse grades the second time around, so that I would have to do it all over again. While at the same time remembering that I already worked for years in my job, noticing that I really was beyond anything that had happened in school. That this really was in the past and already done sufficiently well. - It was disorienting. - Luckily that nightmare stopped after a few years. - Maybe my underlying emotion was that I was not good enough, that I was a fraud; maybe that changed, maybe I realized that I was good enough.

Your mastery of the English language, it’s impressive. What people don’t like to talk about.....is that we are the only known animal completely aware of it’s own mortality, constantly. We are the only animals creative enough to devise an out, an afterlife. This is a story we tell each other, and agree that we will pretend there is a chance. Entire religions exist and their primary offer is, life everlasting. Time travel fantasies offer us a moment of reprieve from the inevitable. Especially for non-believers, it’s a fun moment to think about, “what if there was a chance?” A chance to take control of your destiny, to cheat death.

I look forward to these videos every month! Off hand, I love HG Well’s classic the Time Machine. As a kid I completely missed the political commentary in the book... it was harder to re-read as an adult when it felt like a thinly veiled allegory. But I also love the Moira McTaggert time travel timeline in the X-men House of X/Powers Of X comics

Time travel doesn't change the course of time. Just the traveler. It has been a titanic revelation to realize that time travel is not only real but something that we are all capable of. It is the deep, personal reflection on one's past experiences and the subsequent changes that are enacted. To pine for the romanticized concept of time travel and hope to change the past with present knowledge ignores the real agency that comes from being honest with yourself and others and changing the present. Absolutely incredible work.

The beauty of this is locus of control. If we draw a circle around ourselves, everything within that, is what we can control. Everything outside of that, is outside our control (but some things on the edge are things we can influence) By focusing on what we CAN control and influence, we are able to get the outcomes that matter. :)

Spending time with your work LSOO, is a time I wouldn`t want to spend in any other way. Thanks for unraveling yet another layer of the fabric, of THE question: what it means to be a human being? While being stuck in your own temporal desires, to overcome, what is impossible, your own, eventual demise. And yet, to relish what is given, seems to be the best available practice. You are able to remind about this important fact with a true grace.
