How Social Media Polarizes Political Campaigns

The effects of social media on policy are made worse because of their tendency to drive polarization.
We also see a lack of checks and balances on these technology platforms because of natural monopolies created by network effects.

I am glad you are splitting the interviews up in several small pieces. I listened to both the un edited show and edited show. Having tiny pieces of the show rain in over time makes it easyer to intergrate the knowledge

Political siloing is probably the biggest issue facing modern politics. People (via social media and the Internet) isolating themselves unintentionally in echo chambers, and then thinking “why doesn’t everyone else see what I see?!” Or “how can the other side of this issue be so stupid?”. They have silenced any contrasting evidence and left no room for nuance.

Thank you again for this enlightenment. Even though this short form of clips only touches the tip of the ice berg. But for the greater good - to reach our attention;) Is there any way to ask questions directly, which hopefully will be answered by etc. Tristan or Daniel? Could there be some sort of Q/A online besides comments?

Can an argument be made that our government's interest in this aspect of an algos application could be useful for national security? But also that people in government who consult for other companies would also love to get their hands on this patented capability? I see this as a reason for the stalemate. Facebook knows that their algo could be used for even worse applications!

Absolutely - this is already a national security risk. Check out our other video on this topic kzread.info/dash/bejne/iGyA0txtnLHSkqw.html - and Tristan will be discussing this topic on our podcast 'Your Undivided Attention' in early 2022. Tragically, other governments are already using these capabilities for malicious purposes. You may want to check out the documentary on "A Thousand Cuts" that explains this more fully. kzread.info/dash/bejne/fIWkzMiQhsLWZqg.html
