How Often Should I Weigh Myself?

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

How often should I weigh myself? This is a question that pops in the head of most dieters. But, the answer is not black and white. In this video, I’ll share what the research has to say about the frequency of self-weighing and share some insights from members of my coaching program.

I am 57. I lift weights 4 days a week. Diet is spot on. Gaining muscle. In a 2 week period I dropped from 38" to 36" pants, yet lost no weight. Then a week later 7 pounds fell off... So don't get caught up in numbers. Be patient. You didn't gain that weight in a month. So don't expect to lose it that fast either 😉.

Last time I weighed myself I hadn’t lost anything even though I was doing intermittent fasting for 2 weeks and it ruined my whole day and made me doubt what I was doing and want to give up. . I now refuse to weigh myself more than once a month and just trust the process as I know I’m doing everything right. Fingers crossed for me

I lost weight by weighing myself daily and writing it down along with everything I ate. If I lost weight I kept doing that, if I gained weight I knew whatever I was eating wasn't working.

I never used a scale... didn't even have one in my place...just went by my clothes getting looser & my face thinner. My starting weight was 162 lbs. After 4 months of Keto/clean eating/ intermittent fasting, I was surprised when I finally weighed myself at my friend's home that I was 140 lbs! It works better for me not to be daily/ weekly obsessed with weighing.

All very good points. I have been weighing daily, recording weekly on an app. When a month is over, I take out all but one number to see my monthly progress. This has shown me, that my weight is slowly dropping from month to month. I feel like the daily weigh in is obsessive for me, working on reducing it to once a week. As usual, thank you for your insights!

I have hypothyroidism, Hashimoto disease and am having problems losing. I am averaging about 1 pound a week. Been low carb/ keto since Nov 4, 2018. I weigh every day and watch the fluctuations of a pound up and down but helps me keep from over eating in fear I will gain the 28 pounds back I have lost. I keep praying that my body will give up soon and let me start losing more. I have been on a stall for 3 weeks, drink BPC in the morning, do intermittent fasting 16-18 hours everyday and don't eat after supper. I do low carb shakes for dinner 3-4 times a week.

My window now is 6-8 pm typically and eat a large home wade salad and something else just small amount. Went from 202 to 187 and have been there for over a week now. I’m 52 and 5foot 4inches. Trying to get back down to what I weighed when went in military or at least close. Also to lose my gut and ease up lower back pain and knee pain

I weigh myself every single day and keep records. It gives me great feedback about what foods cause me to bloat, retain water, etc. I watch for weight loss trends kind of like watching the stock market. Is the trend basically going down or up? I've lost 57lbs. so far and counting doing three things. 1. Eating clean no chemical organic foods. 2. Keto lifestyle choices. 3. Proper micro nutrient supplements like Standard Process B vitamins etc. I don't exercise.

I can't tell you how much this video helped me. I have such a difficult time figuring out if I should weigh myself daily, weekly or what? Its a very painful experience for me. I am a scientist so numbers, graphs, tracking, its an obsession. However with the scale its incredibly difficult to see the fluctuations. I am going to lay off for a while and let the fit of my clothing let me know. I am doing all the right things with food and exercise. Thank you Dr. Becky.

Great show. I'm so attached to the scale and knowing what's going on with my body on a daily basis that if I didn't it would cause me more stress. How ironic at a doctor's appt...they ask you to step on that dreaded scale and what it registers doesn't reflect inches lost.

My husband and I weigh once a week. After our weigh in, we talk about the past week of eating (low carb) and the highs and lows of recipes or food choices. My highest weights in past decades have been due to avoiding the scale for months at a time. For me the scale is an objective measurement... stretchy pants aren’t....:(

I weigh myself on the same scale and wearing roughly the same type & amount of workout clothes, on my gym days. That comes out to about 3-4 days per week. On my run days, I don’t weigh myself. If I am out of town for work, I wait until I return to my gym to weigh myself again. I try to keep everything consistent so that I can accurately track my progress.

I am probably a bit strange but I chart my weight almost daily - they do fluctuate a lot. If you only take 1 measurement per week I suspect you can "game" the system by charging the routine on the day or two before the measurements. I don't really care what the numbers are as long as the trend keeps going in the right direction. If not I have a visual trend line. I also do a lot of weights and cardio and have body composition analyses (% fat/%lean muscle). Love your inspiring attitude.

American eat too much and don't weigh themselves. This is not FAT shaming it's a fact!! Think health first than about being thin! Without Health you cannot do anything in life!!!

if you weigh every day with a healthy mindset to take numbers over a period of time rather than taking every day as being the end all i think it's not a bad thing. if it makes you feel bad to weigh in every day then maybe once a week. i gained 4.5 lbs in 3 days. it's impossible to gain 4.5 lbs of fat in 3 days. it is possible to gain that in water and even a pound if you're eating an extremely high calorie diet. the best way is to chart your weight. myfitnesspal keeps you daily weigh ins and shows you over time what it looks like on a chart. while it will go up and down, a chart will show you a steady decline or rise over a period of several days.
