Here's How Much It COST To Rebuild The PERFECT Work Truck

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

According to the internet this is the most perfect truck built in the last 20 years a 2006 GMC Sierra work truck without a single option. I bought this truck for just $1,500 and while it technically runs and drives, it needs a transmission to actually go anywhere. Now it's time to fix the 4L60e that's slowly moving towards all neutrals.

I know it's against your religion but you guys should just repaint that small area of bad paint on the roof because putting vinyl on it won't stop the rust and that would be really easy to square out and just paint that spot.

I still have my 2007 Classic I bought in 2010 with 61000 kms. Still runs fantastic, still on all original powertrain. That 4.8 is a tank, the whole truck is a tank. I'll keep it till it dies over buying the new junk they are making today.

You should always leave at least one problem on an old car, it's a sacrifice to the mechanical Gremlins. Otherwise they'll break something else.

On my third 5.3, a '22 Silverado LTZ. Had two 6.2s in Escalades between my '15 Silverado and the '22. Loved the 6.2s, hated the premium fuel. The 5.3 in an 800 lb. lighter pickup is indistinguishable from the 6.2 in the Escalades for performance. My '22 is smooth, powerful, snappy around town, and pulls my 7,000 lb. travel trailer very nicely. That '06 WT will last longer than you want to keep it. Great truck!

Great conversation about your old V6. Thank you guys for going full-in on this truck. If Eric wants to do any other updates we hope you share them. You guys remind me of my bestey and I 20 years ago and fixing up old stuff. You could definitely say this is a favorite truck for us to watch. I owned an older one. I had a 93 Chevy Cheyenne W/T I purchased in 2007. It had the V6 and 106k on the clock and cost me $2500. It was truly a work truck. LOL It always needed work. But that's because the previous owner didn't do any maintenance. I put a new exhaust and set of cheep tires on it the year I bought it. That was around $900 in 07'. Then the next year I bought a new wiper motor for it. That was a pain in the butt. The damn v6 ate spark plug wires like every 2 years. I did a new disto cap as well. It had a habit of stalling or running rough when coming to a stop sign or stop light. I could never figure that out, but luckily it always started up again. The back window leaked, I used a tube of silicon to fix that up. Toward the end, I replaced the oil pan on it due to a pin-hole leak on the original. That along with new rear springs was a big expense. The other repairs it needed was front brake hoses and 2 new front brake lines (we may have put rear brake lines on it as well?). Also, the water pump went out in 2018 so it got that replaced along with a new belt. I owned it from 2007 through 2020 when I traded it in for my first new car (a 2020 Toyota 4Runner). It had 127k miles on it... that's right, I only put 21,000 miles on it in 13 1/2 years. It was a weekend driver for DIY projects around the house. It was such a dog to drive up and down in the hills of south western Pennsylvania, so under powered. While I fixed most everything on it myself and kept up on the maintenance, it was very easy for a dum dum like me to fix on my own. The downside with the truck was all the rust which wasn't worth fixing. The frame had a few more years on it but the body was really not as pretty as it once was. I have to say I sometimes miss that truck. It was frustrating going from that, to my first SUV (which was my new daily). But I couldn't live without a truck and ended up buying a 2011 F150 Lariat 5.0 around 10 months later. There is no comparison between the 2 trucks, only that the Chevy was so easy to just sit down it, as opposed to climbing up into the lifted 10 year old lux truck LOL. I never thought I would fall for all the bells and whistles but man, that F150 put the Cheyenne to shame. ohh the memories! Thanks for this series!

I had an express van with the 4.3 liter engine, when I got it, it had 12k miles on it. When I sold it, it had 340k miles on it. What a great engine, not a power house but as reliable as the sunrise. Sold it because the tranny (original) started giving problems.

I had a boss that had a pick up truck back in the 80's and he tried hauling an entire pallet of Budweiser on it. Needless to say he took a corner too fast, the plastic wrap broke and spilled beer all over the street. Luckily he was right by the store and we were able to run out and salvage most of it.

If Eric really likes it fix it up nice and drive it till it's not worth fixing again. I did that with my 95 Neon coupe. It had 190k on it, the driver door was replaced and the hinge mounts were bent on the mounting points, then the timing belt blew up so decided it just wasn't worth replacing the head so gave it away and got the Charger RT.

If you do put a android radio please don't put in an atoto. I've had mine for about 3 years and am having buyers remorse now. Would love to see someone try the newer joying universal headunits to compare them. Atoto has been slowly losing support of apps and they have no plans to update the android version to make stuff work again. Plus my screen is starting to fail. And a lot of features have barely worked from the start. I would love to see a comparison of something else out there. Joying looks to be a way better option but I don't have the money to just try one. Keep up that great videos and thanks for the content

Little trick for anyone with a GMT400 watching this. Tailgate handle bezels, buy a handle lock with the key bracket that bolts to the single center bolt. It sandwiches the factory bezel so it can't fly away even if its got no tabs. And if you want a backup camera there's several snap in styles you can drill a hole in the bracket next to the lock to hold. Cheaper than the camera bezels that break too.

Not sure where you are buying tires, but PS4S are not $500 each. Some examples of PS4S pricing of vehicles I have or recently had: Wife's B8.5 S4, 19" wheels, $290/each My previous C6 Z06, stock 18/19 combo, from $317, rear $458 My 987.2 Cayman S, on stock 19" wheels: $312 front, $393 rear My Cayman above on the actual HRE wheels it has, running wider tires: $316 front, $428 rear. McLaren MP12C, since you had one: front $312, rear size not available in a PS4S. I'm sure there are $500+ options for PS4S, but not the majority of them. All that pricing was just from Discount Tire, not shopping around price wise

One time I went with one of the guys to,pick up frozen food. They loaded the truvk up so bad the front tires had no weight on them. The guy was driving down the highway turning the wheel back and forth and the truck was not responding. We had to climb a steep hill to get to The nursing home and I dont think the tires touched the ground once.
