I adored this video! Clive Barker has been one of my heroes since the mid-90's when I first got into Hellraiser and then his Books of Blood short story collection. Infact, one of big reasons I loved the new Hellraiser movie (I've been calling it a remix! haha) is because so much of it reminds me of Clive's the Books of Blood stories. Down on their luck weirdos (usually marginalized people) getting caught up horrifying situations that are so much bigger than them! I watched an interview thing where the writers basically confirmed this. Although, they mentioned The Damnation Game, Weaveworld etc it still feels very Books of Blood to me. I think it nailed that vibe, which is why I loved Odessa A'zion performance as Riley especially on my rewatch. Although, I do think the remix is pulling more from Clive's The Damnation Game more than Hellraiser in some ways. The whole Faustian bargain is a perfect example of that! When David Bruckner says he understood the assignment about Clive's work I think he absolutely did, but from different areas of Clive's work! He gets some of it, but I still think he could've upped the sex, gore and griminess (the apartment where Riley lived should've been filthy!) But I think that's just him because in The Ritual he made the freaking outdoors so clean! It's literally the cleanest forest in horror haha

An old boss of mine back when I worked for the studios worked with Clive Barker and said he is absolutely the most amazing artist he ever worked with. I honestly feel that he doesn't get enough attention in the horror community.

If the cenobites really want to get their jollies off torturing people, they should make their victims watch all the hellraiser sequels.

Jamie absolutely nailed it I honestly never thought anyone besides Doug Bradley could ever play the HellPriest but it genuinely worked so well with Jamie in the role she felt so much closer to the original vision Clive had for Pinhead

Maybe I'm just getting jaded & pessimistic in my old age, but I just have NO desire to watch any more remakes or re-quels. I'm content with the original continuity of franchises that I've been watching for the last 40+ years🤷

I love how Clive described the original as a story of what would you do for a good fuck LMFAO

Hands down I find Julia to be a far more interesting villain than even pinhead. Especially with how her arc turns out in the sequel. I very much like to pretend those are the only movies in this franchise that exist. That and the new one. I went weak for some of that cinematography man. Made me wish it played in a theatre!

I totally agree about the new movie being dry sex wise. I don't think the actors playing Frank and Julia showed anything nudity wise, but they still had some of the most intense sex scenes in cinema history. Also Frank could just look at someone and it's on. When Julia opened the door and Frank introduced himself in the flashback he exuded sexual energy like radioactive waves following a nuclear bomb. All he said was I'm Frank and it was on. You could feel it through the screen. No actor in the remake came anywhere close to giving off that energy.

This was by far the best review of both film's but the new one especially. I felt the same in every way about every character and plot in general. Also all the behind the scenes info was top notch . This was one of the most phenomenal reviews I've ever seen.

Kind of blows my mind that I was only pumped for Halloween Ends and it happens that Hellraiser 2022 blew that movie out of the water.I always prefer the book but both movies were amazing.

This was such a cool, thorough breakdown. Your point about how the remake should have leaned into Riley seeking more of the sensations that drugs give her. That exploration could have made for a REALLY cool movie. I was sort-of expecting that upon the first viewing, but I hadn't thought about it again until you said it. This video is phenomenal. 🙌🖤⛓️

I loved Jamie Clayton in Sese8. It is so great to see her land a role like this. She's amazing, and she nailed the Hellpriest perfectly. This was the first time since the Hellraiser 2 that I felt like I was watching the character from the book. I'm really hoping this acts as a springboard to more roles for her.
