    Those questioning the ones "standing around" must not understand firefighting. Not everyone works at the same time. They go in shifts so the ones that were fighting fire can rehab while fresh firefighters take their place. If everyone was working at the same time then everyone would have to rehab at the same time.

    Because those fires have no immediate life hazard or danger of spreading to anything. Focus on the big picture and once you have the fire contained then you can focus on the little things.

    @@illiilliilliill I did too. Lots of well dressed observers. Has nothing to do with shifts or jobs, they didn't rotate the guys in the buckets. Just lots of guys standing around. Plenty enough to grab a section of hose and tap into that Tower Ladder for a bit of water to deal with the cars and pallets on fire. The Jeep on fire was responsible for the bulk of the black smoke. Knock that out so your guys aren't sucking in all those carcinogens.

    Worst fire I ever fought was a pallet yard. Extremely hot and the construction of the pallets allows for a lot of oxygen into the fire. Great video, brings back great memories!

Whoever wrote license and approved pallets and oil needs there head examined. Stupidity unfortunately kills everyday. God bless the firefighters.(always). 9.11 never forget the lives from that disaster. God Bless from Atlanta Georgia.

  • @azul8811

    @azul8811

    2 жыл бұрын

    They can, but you can get more GPM from a Tower Ladder, plus its pipe is more maneuverable and you’ve got observers in the bucket who can better direct the stream and assess its progress. When a rear mount is used, you need to stretch a hose up it and control the pipe with halyards while standing on the ground. The FDNY does not put a guy up on the tip of the ladder like some Departments do.

    I believe I heard something about this is in the area of Hunts Point?? I delivered a load of produce to Hunts Point Produce Market once in the mid 80s. After I left, I told the broker I was using to load my truck if he ever even mentioned Hunts Point, New York City, or the GW bridge in my presence again, I was going to whip him, crate him and ship him via UPS to the location!!

    I’m amazed that FDNY crews don’t wear SCBA’s when extinguishing car fires. Smoke is extremely toxic from the plastics tires and car battery. Is it a macho thing?
