INCREDIBLE TORNADO VS WIND TURBINE DRONE FOOTAGE
The most incredible #tornado footage ever captured by drone near Greenfield, Iowa with up-close helical suction vortex action. This tornado was very strong and damaged many windmills along its path and also struck the community of Greenfield. Team Dominator intercepted this tornado.

@@peppergrand1072 It's not that it's flat, it's a clear view of multiple vortexes all working together to form this monster. The brief moment when the drone shows the winds flowing into the tornado, it's all new because it's from a new perspective.

This is the most visceral tornado footage I've ever seen. It's like something out a movie, incredibly cinematic. The lighting is amazing, really showcases how complex and beautiful the tornado is, all of those separate vortices! Literally everything about this is sublime.
Although I've watched a lot of fantastic tornado videos starting way back in the very early 90s , I have never witnessed the consistent, persistent structure of multiple vorticity exhibited here. When it hits the field, the contrast between the dirt being sucked up and the whiteness of the condensation funnel within each of the multiple vortexes is one of the most dramatic things I have ever seen. Mr Timmer, you are one of the luckiest chasers alive to have witnessed this and gotten such dramatic footage using the drone.

I've been a trained spotter and storm photographer for a long time and a tornado/severe weather enthusiast even longer. I've seen a lot of tornado footage and plenty in person... I've never seen a clear air multi-vortex tornado like this. The vortices aren't dancing around a main funnel, they seem to be braided around it. Very different. This is excellent footage, and it'll probably go down in history as helping research tornadoes. I'd love to see somebody putting info in to get a computer to simulate that one haha. There were so many vortices inside this beast at one point, I couldn't count them all. By the time it slammed into the tiny town of Greenfield, IA, (pop. 2000), the houses it hit were pulverized, trees were stripped of limbs and debarked, vehicles were tossed around like toys. @@visiontv68 you ever see a tornado suck up a pile of coal and blot out the sky? ever seen a damaged natural gas pipe? ever seen any building in the direct path of a tornado? there isn't much difference between all other cases and renewables...except that renewables are not all or nothing. that is to say, if a few get destroyed or damaged, it doesn't stop the rest from being able to produce. they already have safety in mind, notice how the turbines do not rotate or freely spin. that is because there are breaks that are engaged to stop that from happening (likely the reason you see a few failed because the angle of the wind on the blade created too much force and it bent the tower). the walls of those turbines are anywhere from 1-2+ inches thick steel. it isn't something easy to just bend over. it takes a lot of power to do that and that's what this storm had, a lot of power. they could make them even thicker sure but is it even worth that investment? i don't think it is, it's not a common enough issue and the impact of a tower going down doesn't really endanger anyone (they are built quite far away from people).

This is by far the absolute best footage of a tornado that has ever been documented.
I've never seen those wind fields in such definition before. It gives so much perspective on other tornado videos such as the one in El Reno for just how active the area surrounding the tornado is, and to see the windmill seemingly disintegrate far outside the funnel due to the sheer power of the wind is humbling. Also means that those stormchasers filming tornadic winds around them may actually be way closer to danger than they realise. Incredible footage.
@ljfinger
Ай бұрын
It's a wind turbine, not a windmill, and it's designed for something in the neighborhood (I don't know what class these are) of 155 mph of wind from the side while parked, plus a safety factor. And it failed.
@shaunagordon4104
Ай бұрын
@@ljfinger There are a few different reports on the rating of this tornado from at least EF3 up even to EF5. From the looks of the damage (and other reports calling it "violent," which is a technical term), I'm guessing at least a borderline EF3-4, putting wind speeds in the neighborhood of 165mph. The ones clocking higher wind speeds seem to be from sensors around 600ft above the ground, but that also means the tops of the turbines are enduring speeds around 185mph, if the tornado was "only" a top end EF3. You can even see the blades feathering the way they're meant to, until the body buckles from the sheer force of the wind. The fact that neighboring turbines withstood it means the safety factors worked, but the tornado just overwhelmed that one.

Incredible footage. Seeing the actual activity and destruction from an elevated, pursuing vantage point gives a whole new understanding of how tornadoes function. It's truly a whole new perspective.
There's so much to look at here. You can see what seems to be how the center of the tornado spins the air around it from the bottom at ground level more then anywhere else along it's height; as is evident by the twist (wrapping around the center) of all the outer vortexes. Like a planetary gear setup at ground level, right in front of you instead of hidden! And the air moving toward the tornado looks faster at ground level then anywhere else, the fields show the directional flow so well here. I'm kind of a laymen for tornadoes, but I think what's going on is kinda hard to miss, which is ultra rare if I understand correctly. Fantastic work getting these pictures!

The destruction caused by the tornado in the drone footage prompts questions about the role of renewable energy in our transition to a more sustainable future.
That was incredibly photogenic. Absolutely beautiful footage.
That is gorgeous and absolutely terrifying. I never knew how far away the suction effort of a tornado can be.
I'm convinced that it's a great thing that the dominator broke down because I think your chase plot would have been different, had you been in it and felt more protected and you may have not gotten this footage. Just shows me that it's really important to not sweat it when something goes wrong because you never know what amazing things will come from it. Amazing footage. I watched the whole chase , live, on multiple screens and am a huge fan of you, your team and your work.
Prayers for Greenfield indeed

Should there be stricter regulations on drone usage during emergencies to prevent interference with rescue operations?

@@visiontv68 you are not very intelligent
This video has to be one of the best pieces of footage taken of a tornado. You can SO clearly see the subvorticies. It's crazy to see the rain/fog?/condensation being drawn towards it. I can hardly even believe this is real, but I know it is!

If you're referring to the building, it seems to be smoke from a fire

@@nappa3550 Dont think so.. I think its just a freak of nature. Right temp/humidity to create a low pressure gradient condensation on the leeward side of the building..

@@nappa3550 My first thought was smoke. 2nd guess it looks almost powdery... something to do with agriculture?

It's 99% likely "fog"/condensation or possibly just wind-driven/beaten water/rain as well.

Definitely real, but sadly soon, once Sora is available to the public, Reed and other videographers are going to have to insist their videos aren't AI.
the drone perspective makes it much easier to see the inflow
This is probably the best tornado footage I’ve ever seen. And I’ve seen a lot of it. @Reedtimmer, this is truly amazing.
One of the best tornado videos I've seen.

Are we adequately investing in research and development to improve the resilience and durability of wind turbines in the face of tornadoes and other natural disasters?
This was the first Storm chasing stream I've ever joined and damn it was crazy
The most photogenic example of multiple vortices!
Funniest thing for me: The drone is so far up so far away and yet still... I can hear Reed screaming lol

Are drone operators inadvertently contributing to public fear and anxiety about natural disasters by sharing dramatic footage on social media?
You are the GOAT dude. This is absolutely bonkers footage. I hope TV stations pay you bank for this, you deserve it!

How can we balance the educational value of drone footage with the potential risks and dangers involved in capturing it?
@nickbarker561

@@visiontv68 Drone operators conduct a risk assessment based on that particular flights' relevant risk factors prior to every flight. This is already baked into the pre-flight routine of every qualified, responsible drone pilot. In this case the only risk was to the drone itself, and Team Dominator decided that the benefits of the footage outweighed the risk to the drone.

@@visiontv68 Balance what? You literally can't put a price on footage like this. The scientific value of it is literally priceless as far as any current footage is concerned. Seems to be a theme similar to the countless other comments you left. Not hard to see your either just a hater or a troll. It must be one of the two; because your grammar is clearly decent enough that I can see through the comments that you've been educated at some point or another, so clearly you can't be that ignorant to just be throwing statements like that around. There is zero risk. There is a literal 200mph death machine that is a uncontrollable & unstoppable force as far as mankind is concerned just doing as it pleases. A 5lb drone poses no imminent threat to life or safety of anyone or anything around it, and if you're talking about the safety of the operator, you'd have to then do a risk assessment on the last 100+ years of storm chasers; of which only one single storm out of the thousands documented since the start resulted in the fatalities of any chasers. History says it's not going anywhere, anytime soon.

The passion, continued research and development that Reed and his team have put in over the years is amazing.
You are on a new level with this footage, guys. A whole new world!
It has smaller independent funnels surrounding it. Brilliant footage.
I don’t usually comment on KZread videos, but my god! Just incredible. Those suction vortices and the complex motion. Everything is so clearly visible. The inflow jet. I can’t stop watching it.
Easily the best footage of a multi vortex tornado ever captured.
This is the most incredible coverage of a tornado I have ever seen. Thanks, Reed and Team Dominator!!
