I don't see how you remember what something tasted like a year ago. I guess my pallette isn't that honed. But that's funny that it wasn't liked until a year later then it totally transformed.

Not to speak for Matt, but it’s more that it wasn’t very interesting to start with, but as the spirit interacted with air, the flavors started to really came out. But yeah, if you drink small drams over enough time, you start building a memory of the main flavors of different whiskies, but day-to-day and in different contexts, what you taste can vary a bit.

I see this a lot with the solist bottles. Friends will find it mediocre at first opening, I tell them to keep at it and maybe pour a glass and let it sit an hour, it takes the edge off the hotness and really brings out the complexity. Definitely like six month opened bottles a lot more than the first month.
