Ridiculously incredible selection in Taiwan, a lot of stuff I didn't even know existed. Here in Onterrible (sic) Canada we're not even supposed to be viewing these kind of video's (but I do anyhow). Oh well, reckon I can make a virtual purchase and actually pretend to get some interesting whisky. Cheers, Phil & Deepa and I really enjoy these types of video's ("whiskyporn" if you will) really nice to know people outside of Canada (particularly Onterrible) can purchase quality whisky.

@@WhiskyMystery liquor stores in my area are not great. I live in a relatively small city (225,000) people. If I’m out shopping though I’ll see if anyone minds terribly if I shoot a video of the whiskey section in one of my local shops. 😃

just back from speyside and they were selling the Glenlivet Oloroso Sherry cask 13 Year Old Taiwan Exclusive in the distillery shop so that is probably why you are not familiar with the 13 YO Glenlivet

Damn, some of those prices were fantastic! I wouldn't be walking out empty handed :)

@@WhiskyMystery I will do just that! :) Their selections aren't always great here, but when I'm cashed up there's always one Gothenburg shop I go to that has a lot of the higher end stuff in glass cabinets.

Excellent video, can't wait to get back to Taiwan. Singleton is cheap and everywhere including the 7- Eleven's. Ballantine's released Glenburgie, Glentauchers and Miltonduff as single malts which were all over Taiwan last year, not bad. A great website to see Taiwan prices is a large retailer 9City, you can search and see results in English (9city.com.tw)Maybe Mike will hit the Costco next... Cheers!

@@michaelli4616 Thank you, last time we were at the Costco in Xizhi Glenmorangie had a kiosk and were handing out samples of their entire range. I miss being able to sample, US is still so backwards. I would have a hard time walking past all the Kavalan tastings they installed at Mr. Brown coffee locations. Safe Travels.

Right before the Hibiki section, the camera focusses on some of the Komagatake bottles from the Mars distillery--at least some of these clearly state on the bottle that they are distilled in Japan and apparently the 2020 Limited Edition one is rather good according to a friend who has tried a lot of Japanese and Scotch whiskies. The Yakushima Aging has a score over 90 (14 votes) on Whiskybase with my friend rating it a 90. Maybe things are starting to turn the corner in the Japanese whisky industry with more distilleries properly labeling the source of their whisky. Still, if distilled in Japan isn't written on the label then it's safest to assume that it is not really Japanese whiskey.

@@WhiskyMystery Well, Alberta pricing and selection are fine in many stores, however the rest of Canada suffers from government control liquor and abysmal selection. An Alberta liquor store tour would be much more interesting. Many in Ontario would be too embarrassed to to a video tour of the Summerhill LCBO.

There are a few places that I would go to that have some exceptional pricing on certain items but prices have generally gone up in the last 12 months at most stores. That said, there continue to be very good prices compared to government controlled socialist monopolies. Competition in the marketplace is the only way to go. Slainte.

I got the Caol Ila 25 in the Netherlands for 99 EUR. But this was one or two years back. It was a secret tipp to look for Caol Ila in the Netherlands. But the price went never back to 99 EUR since today. But luckily i got three bottles :-) But one is empty right now. :-( Normally you get it in Germany between 125-150EUR. But sometimes there are some cheap offers. The prices for Springbank are so bad here, because the importers and retailers push the prices to the limit. But the people buy it. Sadly. For example: The Springbank 17yo Madeira. Springbank price 95 Pounds. The normal Euro price: 125 EUR. The price from the Retailers when it was the first time in the shop. 168 EUR. But not a long time, because it was out so quick. Since then you did not find the whisky under 200EUR. Thats sad. Because for 125EUR I would definitely buy it. But not over 200EUR. So the end of it. You never get the Whisky here for the normal price of 125EUR. That is not great. But the Whisky prices in general are rising higher and higher. Probably I could do a shop tour here in the future if you are interested in german shop tours :-) I like your commentary over the Video. Great job Phil. Stay healthy. Greetings from Germany. Stefan.

@@RomainRiviere Yes it is very sad that such an old Whisky is not bottled in cask strength and is chillfiltered and cloured. For 99€ you can not do anything wrong. Tastewise it is a good Whisky and you can taste the age. For me the most interesting thing on it is the peat. Very interesting age developed peat. But I would not pay 145€ for the Whisky. But if you can ignore the bad facts you can like the Whisky. I would buy a Caol Ila from Gordon MacPhail from the Connaisseurs Choice. I got a 16,17 and 18 years old Single Cask. But if you like a very old bottle of Caol ila as a Single Cask you have to pay around 300€ for a 29yo Single Cask from the Connaisseurs Choice. So I bought me the bottle. But it is not open. I bought also a 28yo Glen Scotia from the Connaisseurs Choice for 255€. For me the best Whisky is not chillfiltered, not coloured, and a Single Cask. Age Statement. And mostly a Bourbon Cask. But some Distilleries have also great Whiskys which are not Single Casks but no colouring and no chillfiltration. I also like Whiskys out of a Mocatel Cask.
