Join us on our journey through whiskey and spirits, as we try to provide you with tidbits of the how's and why's of whiskey, and tastings from our own collections.
I like how you guys always add water at the end, after nosing and then the initial sip. Lowering the ABV allows different set of palates to come out. Culturally, Taiwanese people, as well as most East Asian people, place brand name recognition above actual quality, more often than not. To me, this explains why Kavalan is not as popular in Taiwan as it should. To open a bottle of Macallan 18 in front of guests at your house means more than enjoying the quality of a nice bottle of Kavalan.

I don't see how you remember what something tasted like a year ago. I guess my pallette isn't that honed. But that's funny that it wasn't liked until a year later then it totally transformed.

Not to speak for Matt, but it’s more that it wasn’t very interesting to start with, but as the spirit interacted with air, the flavors started to really came out. But yeah, if you drink small drams over enough time, you start building a memory of the main flavors of different whiskies, but day-to-day and in different contexts, what you taste can vary a bit.

I see this a lot with the solist bottles. Friends will find it mediocre at first opening, I tell them to keep at it and maybe pour a glass and let it sit an hour, it takes the edge off the hotness and really brings out the complexity. Definitely like six month opened bottles a lot more than the first month.

As an alternative to finding it in a bar, you should be able to find a 50 mL bottle of JW Blue in a good, mainstream liquor store. Probably the best way to try it without committing to an entire 750 bottle. It'll still set you back about $20-30.

Good instinct on this video as I literally thought to myself last video "What exactly makes bourbon bourbon as opposed to whisky / whiskey" (which is another topic on which is which spelling). I've heard some guys say that they won't touch whiskey and they only drink bourbon. I don't find there to be that much of a difference where I can't enjoy both.
@distilled2289 Жыл бұрын
Yeah, I can feel that. The use of corn makes bourbon generally sweet, but man, malted barley…I bet you could hand someone a sweeter whiskey and 🤥 tricking them into thinking it’s Bourbon. And that wild turkey 17 is less sweet, more rye like and savory. It’s a bourbon that breaks all the rules.
