Having Tank Anxiety in FFXIV? WATCH THIS!

Ойындар

Hey guys! Finally got my second video out that is all about tank anxiety in MMORPGs. This can also be applicable for healers as well. A lot of people are scared to tank or heal because they do take a little more responsibility than a DPS role. Today I wanted to go over how I got over tanking anxiety and what steps that could potentially help you! This isnt really a guide on how to tank as I myself am not the best tank. In fact I still make a buttload of mistakes. But the main message of this video is to learn from them!

To anyone else with anxiety, if you can do these things: 1. keep tank stance on 2. use lots of aoe's to grab and keep aggro 3. pay attention and try to pick up any mobs going after dps and healers 4. face the mobs away from your group 5. move out of aoe's (to save your healer a headache) and then move back to your spot once they finish casting so the mob doesn't turn around and cleave your group 6. keep one mitigation cooldown going whenever they're up to reduce your need to be healed so your healer can contribute to damage (ps: use mitigation like rampart at the beginning of boss fights because they always start with raidwide damage and a tankbuster) Then you will be light years ahead of many beginner tanks.

I know I'm late but I'd like to add a few points 5.5 for the purpose of this manuver, at high levels, gap closers are your friends 7. when in an istance there are multiple tanks, try not to start a provoke war ,but reserve it if the MT dies to quickly grab aggro on the boss.

(A tiny bit more advanced) Also adding to this just keep your stance on unless you are alone and not in a dungeon/trial. Also if you are in an 8 man raid/trial do not turn on your stance if the other tank did first unless the fight calls for swaps.

You're forgetting the most important thing during dungeons. Don't turn your back / side towards mobs. EVER. If they hit you from anywhere but the front, you become squishy. This makes a lot of people panic because they take more dmg despite using shields. Keep the mobs in front of you. And don't ever listen to FFXIV memes, it's all a joke and not to be taken too seriously.

I do all those things and still get anxiety even when party tells me I'm doing great lol. Just like in video I slaw dark knight in shadowbringers trailers so I literally bought whole collection started as dragoon and after I got samurai max later on(kinda strayed away from my first class) I went to dark knight and I'm level 47 but my biggest issue is you're the leader of all the content unless you have a main tank and your a off tank which gives me incredible anxiety cause I'm not a leader. Last time I ever lead anything was top scoreboard when I played esports for R6 that's it other then that I'm to shy and anxious xD. It's easier point and shoot then make sure you are doing all these mechanics right all time lol.

@@SeloriaCaelum don't worry to much if you occasionaly fail a meachanic , some times errors happens , and outside of savage/extreme content a single mistake is nothing to worry about , hell , at level 80 in normal dungeons , if you manage your mitigations well (and on this front TBA is broken), you can even live trough five stacks of vulnerability up or live long enough to finish off a boss even if the healer is dead (this last thing is a lot easier to do with paladin and dark knight than warrior or gunbreaker)

Main tanking is typically pretty easy due to being able to hold aggro so well. Being the off-tank is when it gets harder. You have to be much more aware of the battlefield to deal with mechanics, adds, and protect teammates including assisting the main tank with mitigation. In some cases the off-tank might be doing some completely unrelated task that prevents a huge amount of damage or debuff.

Some advice for tanks that never come up in guides, and this applies to light party dungeons usually, but may apply elsewhere: All melee jobs, especially Monk, need to be able to stand on the rear location of the enemy, and one of the flanks. Don’t leave that part sitting in a hazard like a poison or fire pool, or they’re not having a good day deciding on the massive DPS loss (Monk, less so on other jobs), or taking extra damage and annoying the healer. Part of this tip is also understanding that a rotating boss is annoying. Try to keep them facing the same direction unless you have to move to avoid damage or perform mechanics

As a MNK main, a very much appreciate you bringing up this point. To any tanks reading this, if you have really any melee DPS in your party, please do your best to keep the boss still and the rear out of Bad. We DPS monkeys understand it's not always possible as some bosses like to twirl around like a stupid ballerina on their own, but if you make an effort to keep it still and safe for me, man will I love you.

Great video 👍 I’ve ben playing FFXIV since 2.0 in late 2015. FFXIV was my first real attempt at an mmo where I learned of the roles. Like you, tank intimated me and also like you I was not interested in tank until I saw the dark knight. Now it is my main job.Everything you said is true from 2.0 to 5.0. Some tips I’d like to add for new tanks. Be aware of your gear. Too many times I see undergeared tanks doing wall to wall pulls and wondering why they are dying. Just did one the other day where a tank did the dungeon you are showing in the video, a level 80 dungeon, with level 70 gear and he tried to pull everything. Group mobs as close together as possible. It involves a bit of moving and repositioning but the dps with their aoe abilities will be very happy. Do not save defensive cooldowns. They will recharge in time for the boss. Face the mobs/boss away from the group when possible so the groups don’t get cleaved. Also, if you are going to pull large groups, aoe aggro is your friend. Again, I have seen too many pull 3+ mobs, hit aoe combo a couple times then start single target attacks. They wonder why they are losing aggro. I’m a cautious player so with drk I save 3000mp for tbn at all times in an emergency. I see sloth of drk burn through all their mp using edge of shadow then they cannot use tbn when needed. Since you mentioned healing, a great tip I found was targeted macros for your attack spells. I set up a macro where my attack spells can be set to target whoever the tank is targeting. It helps a lot when having to weave fast heals and attack spells on a controller

You got me with this video, my main job in FFXIV is Dragoon and the second job I had for my character is guess what? Dark Knight! Man how can you resist not having that job with its cool aesthetics. Things is, I wasn't good at tanking as well. Like you I tried to learn tanking in every way I could, I watched videos, I tried to learn from my fellow FC members, and also made some disclaimers at the start of a dungeon that I'm new to tanking (luckily we have a very nice and helpful community in FFXIV). Things that I can impart for a better tanking are, know your skills first and what they do, and take the time to research the trial/dungeon you're running. Overtime, I was able to learn the ways to a better tanking. I'm not the best yet but at least now I have the confidence to run a dungeon from end to end. Right now, I already have the four tank jobs for my character and been enjoying tanking ever since (been awhile since I played DPS). So excited for my Paladin for the upcoming Endwalker expansion 😊

Wait, I’m not a sprout tank anymore. Why am I watching this? Lol Tanking has changed so much in this game, that it’s pretty easy compared to before. No enmity combos or stance dancing. You just turn on tank stance and go ham. But boy, did I have a big case of tank anxiety when I first started out. All the tips here are good. Communicate with your team and get more experience with the job. Edit: there’s also the trust system and company squadron system that new tanks can use to practice if you want to try things solo.

I'm a healer main, and I only tanked enough to unlock PLD. That being said, the early dungeons weren't too bad, but it feels like there's way more responsibility on tanks. Not to mention, in my short time on tank, I met way more toxic people than in my time as acn/sch.

What helps me most with tanking anxiety is learning the dungeon im going to do, boss tactics and the map of the dungeon. Once i learn that, im able to finaly enjoy myself. The way i do it is 1st by watching a video about the the dungeon, then i go and do it several times as healer or dps to see how other tanks do it and then, i do it several times as a tank untill i fully understand it. It takes time and it seems exagerated, but since im not a "natural" leader nor im very coodinated, this is the only way for me to be a decent tank and actualy enjoy playing it. What i like in FFXIV is that tanks arent requiered to be extra fast and do everything in a rush, like we need to be in WoW mythic+, so that makes FFXIV tanking so much more fun for me.

That is some great advice! Research about the dungeon like watching videos can really help with understanding because you have an example of what the person is doing. That way you are prepared for anything to come! I also agree, the pace of tanking in FFXIV is way more fun because there is so much less stress involved in the process. Thanks for watching the video and providing your insight :)

That no-tankstance pull looked rough, good thing you had a healer prepared for it! Not sure when this was recorded but that pull in Anamnesis is a rough one if you pull it wall to wall. (insert: I main tank - to no one that cares) you're doing a great job showing that everyone can tank, there's nothing to be afraid of! Hell DPS make a loooot of mistakes too, and though the mistakes are worse than tank mistakes in a lot of cases, they are not as obvious. Best way to improve is knowing you made mistakes and learn from it, you'll improve on tanking way faster than improving your dps rotation.

Especially as a healer, my best memory in ShB was hard carrying an undergeared tank in Mt Gulg that was severely struggling but he was extremely nice and we were able to push through, we gave advice and I felt like a godly healer using all my skills in the role I love, and everyone left relieved and feeling accomplished and I'd actually run with him again just because of his attitude because people get better through practice if they have a humble mindset and are willing to listen to advice and try ya know?

When running Trust dungeons, watch how the NPC tank handles packs and bosses. The coding on them is actually rather brilliant, if scaled back dramatically from what was possible for automation of party members in FFXII since the system is based on the one used there. So far I'm really only any good in dungeons, some (normal) Trials, and the Crystal Tower Alliance Raids, but at least it's progress AND I was able to get Gunbreaker to 80 for the Role Quest completion!

Awww, KZread is comprehending such wholesome videos to me today. I used to main DPS myself, but I played the game before the tanking incentives were added, so I ended up getting over my tanking anxiety because I lived through the era when tanks would flat out walk out of a dungeon right at the start if they didn't feel like running whatever roulette they ended up in. I got really upset at seeing tanks lord over people and essentially holding people hostage for their services so I took up Warrior and worked my ass off not to be one of those guys. Remembering to turn Tank Stance on at the start is usually +100 respect points from everyone involved, as the game sort of forgets to tell you that it gets turned off when you join a dungeon, even if you had it on before.

I was and still am in the same boat to a degree. I've ALWAYS been a dps main. I played WoW for 15 years. Way back in vanilla WoW, when no one knew anything, I started as a Paladin because I figured hey, they match up with the whole holy knight aesthetic, sword & shield, etc. Tried tanking as a paladin in vanilla, when they had no taunt/provoke ability, and I was new to the game(as was everyone, this was 2004). It went very badly. I was playing with friends I knew from a different game but still, no one enjoys being in a dungeon run that's going extremely poorly compared to what you'd expect it to be. I hung up tanking pretty much right then and there and swapped to dps, and 99% of my time playing mmos have been as a dps, and usually melee dps at that. So because of that, I started XIV as a Dragoon. Leveled it up to the end of Heavensward, then I swapped over to Samurai and that has been my main job since. I love Samurai, I love the way it feels to play at 80, I love the rotation and it's flow, and I love playing dps classes that are essentially "GCD locked" meaning little to no down-time at all, you're ALWAYS pressing something with no real breaks(for reference, it's why I loved playing Fury Warrior in retail WoW). When playing classes like that, especially in mechanic intensive fights that require a lot of movement while having to maintain high dps up-time, it's a challenge I enjoy. So now that I'm done with the MSQ until Endwalker comes out, I'm starting to set my eyes on other things to do, and leveling up a tank and healer job so I have access to all 3 roles feels like something highly worthwhile to have. Even though I'm new to tanking in XIV, I'm not new to the flow of dungeons in the game or how it feels to be a dps WITH a good tank in the party. It also helps that I've been playing MMOS that use the holy-trinity concept(tank/dps/healer) for over 15 years. Even with that, there was still a lot of anxiety when first starting out. I don't like having my time wasted, and I don't want to waste anyone else's time, even if I AM trying to learn. The bulk of my anxiety comes from having the responsibility of setting the pace in a dungeon/raid. Or going into a duty I haven't done before and thus don't have every mechanic memorized. Even if I do watch the fights on youtube first, typically. Some advice I can give so far: 1. The very first thing you do upon entering a duty is verifying tank stance is active. If it's not active, turn it on. THEN you can tell the party you're a rookie tank still learning. 2. Goes along with what I said in #1, but tell the group you're still in the process of learning to tank, whether you're new to the game or it's just not your primary role. 3. More than one target? Spam those AOES. How efficient you are potency wise doesn't matter here like it would as a dps, we just want to establish enmity on all targets. We're not trying to min-max while learning here, anyway. We just want to fulfill our role effectively. 4. Always face mobs away from the rest of the group. Not just bosses, but trash as well. A lot of trash mobs do frontal cone AOES. I don't want my dps having to side-step to avoid every little frontal AOE that could've been avoided if the mob wasn't facing them. If my dps doesn't have to move as often, it means they have higher up-time and do more damage. Things die faster, healer has to heal less, dungeon takes less time. Get in the habit of simply running through mobs to get them to turn around. 5. I like to ask the group to tell me if they think I should be pulling more mobs than I am. You don't want to be the kinda tank who refuses to pull more than one pack at a time, but you also don't wanna be that guy that tries to pull half the dungeon at once, after you sprinted far ahead of your healer, only to get clapped and then watch as the rest of the party wipes. 6. Try to always keep one mitigation(anything that lessens the damage you take from an enemy) ability on reserve, so you can use one as often as possible throughout the dungeon. Basically, don't stack mitigation abilities on one pull, then be left with nothing on the next.

  • @AstroSayn

Yes! This is very sound advice and your perspective on this is greatly appreciated. I definetly agree 1st thing above anything else is tank stance. I'm a sprout only started playing three months ago, I started out as Gladiator/Paladin because I wanna get that Dark Knight job needless to say I was kinda in awe the way you are when you saw that Dark Knight job. About earlier this month I created a second character with a Pugilist/Monk job because I was interested in learning DPS as well. That is when it hits me, I was in a dungeon run and I saw this other Tank, twas a Marauder tank and the way they play is way better/efficient than me (or at least thats what I thought). I kinda came with a realization that I wasnt doing well enough as a tank, so I did more dungeon run as a DPS to see how other Tanks plays and try to apply what I learned from my observation to my first character with my own playstyle and the results was not great. I got grilled by one of the more veteran player, I remember that I was told my Tanking is erratic and sloppy I should pull in bigger mobs so it'll save more time and there's no way that a Paladin would play as poorly as me. Afterwards I picked a new DPS job for my 1st character and I choose Rogue/Ninja and have been building my Ninja ever since that moment. Now I'm not really used to play online MMORPG as a matter of fact I've never played online MMORPG before so I have zero knowledge in terms of tanking like mitigation, skill rotation and etc. The only thing I know as a Tank is keep all the mobs aggro at you and dont let your teammates get hit especially the healers and thats it. I kinda wanna get back in the Tank seats again but I'm not sure if I'm ready for it plus at the moment I'm building my Ninja, maybe later once I'm done with my Ninja I'll come back Tanking again

Lesson 1: Remember tanking is MUCH different from other games. Forget what you've learned in WoW. I've been maining tank since 3.0 and it's always been one of the most relaxed job (outside of the 24 man raids which always get really hectic.) Tanking is pretty easy in FFXIV for the most part. What you have to keep in mind is that grabbing and holding enmity is the most important thing. DPS comes second. Your most important tool when grabbing mobs in dungeons is your AoE combo. When playing DPS, I often see people not using it enough. A rule of thumb that has been around for years is of there's 3 or more enemies, you should be spamming your AoEs. Also utilize skills like Provoke and your long range attacks for enemies that are far away to pull them to you instead of dragging the pack around. Positioning is a big thing too. When grabbing mobs, your objective is to not move much and keep the enemies facing away from the group. I sometimes see new tanks running around or circling for whatever reason. No, stand still...in doing this, you throw off any directionals for melee jobs like Monk and Dragoon. Standing in one spot allows them to hit the sides they need and deal more damage. Using mitigation tools will have healers loving you. Lol. DRK definitely has one of the best. If you're a PLD main, don't save Hallowed Ground for an "oh shit" moment, use it on a big pull. If you play Warrior, thrill of Battle actually increases the amount of healing recieved and heals you. Throw Heart of Light on a teammate about to be targeted with an attack if you play GNB. Stun enemy AoEs with low Kick. I promise you, your team will appreciate it. I will say that some of the 8 man and 24 man raids can be tough (for me at least) but all other content isn't bad at all. As long as you know your job, you can't fail. And if people have a problem with something, be open-minded and take advice. That's the way to become better.

As a pro tip (from a main gnb) , when playing a tank, pull immediately face the mob/boss away from the rest of the group :3 in later fights there are things u have to stack for but mostly face them away. This is because some tank busters are cleaves which will kill everyone else as tanks have more hp than the others. Also , try to use ur ranged attack to pull from far away with the adds in a boss room because some melee have positionals that require them to hit from certain angles so moving the boss around in circles and around the room is a nono unless a mechanic specifically requires it.

I have major tank anxiety sometimes when I first started playing I really wanted to try thinking because I liked the way the paladin looked and then I liked the way dark Knight looked and my friends kind of discouraged me from playing it because it’s a tank so I went with DVS instead I started out trying samurai and then I tried dragoon and stuck with that for a while and finally I ended up being in Walker with dancer but I still really wanted to try dark Knight and since I had essentially been the game so far I figured screw it why not I’m gonna give it a try I had my friend help me make a macro that literally says “hi I’m blind n have trouble seeing aoe’s sometimes” lol i’m almost level 50 with dark Knight now and I’m starting to get a little nervous going into the higher end part of the constant but it’s still something I really want to try because one it looks cool and two I wanted to play it essentially since I started playing this game so why not I think I’m doing OK so far but I still get that nervous feeling in the pit of my stomach sometimes and I’ve died at least two or three times already😂 but tho I may feel like a lot to manage sometimes I’m still going to keep trying my best

I’ve been playing XIV since 1.0. I have done all forms of content and have been doing endgame raiding since Orginal Coil in 2.0. My point is, I’ve ran into lots of people who can be new and not know what they are doing. Have friends who will be toxic yet I have learned that “Hey maybe they don’t know.” So I try to give constructive advice. If that helps them, great. Also run into people where they don’t wanna hear my advice and want to get upset at me for helping. I just remain silent at that point and let them do their thing then haha. The biggest thing to remember is we are all humans and even with allllllll my experience I still make mistakes as well. No one is perfect and the best way to learn is to take a step forward and learn from mistakes (: glad you are tanking now buddy.

I started playing FF14 a few months ago and chose the Paladin because, you know, sword and shield and stuff. (Also, I started a few months ago but I also had a huge break recently, in between ARR and Heavensward, so it's like I'm only a few weeks into the game.) I've never played an MMO before and I had no idea how to tank. Until like halfway through Heavensward I had absolutely no idea what I was doing. I died really frequently and that often lead to the deaths of my entire party and I felt really bad about it. I forgot to turn on tank stance most of the time because I always have it on while playing and never noticed when it was turned off. I'd also just face the boss at all times instead of pulling reinforcements because I'd only notice that they had arrived when it was already too late. This ended up in me being yelled at for not doing my job, quite often and I was really discouraged to the point wherr I dreaded every single time I'd have to form a party with other people. I was also on PS4, so typing in the chat took way too long and was thus not an option. But eventually, both through watching random videos and through experience, I got better. I'm now in Stormblood and while I'm still learning, I'm now at a point where I'm doing pretty well, I think. It's pretty rare for me or any in my team to actually die, I manage to keep enmity pretty much at all times and I also got better at using mitigation and recognizing boss patterns. It took me forever to get to this point but now I really enjoy playing as a Paladin and I even look forward to instance raids instead of dreading them (unless queuing takes like half an hour for no reason). I read that soms people look up how to tank an instance raid before starting it and I have no idea how to feel about that since I've never looked up a single dungeon or mechanic but I'm also doing just fine (I think, I have no idea, actually). What I'm trying to say is: It may take a while to get used to it, but tanking is actually a lot of fun, so just go for it if you wanna do it and don't worry. Everyone is bad at first but eventually you'll do better and getting to that point is a lot of fun. And if you explain that you're new, people usually understand.

Some days ago, I tanked puppets bunker last boss for the very first time, and when the boss uses the off arena pod attacks, I didn’t know where the safe spot was, apparently the pods teleports at the last minute, and I just stood in the aoe, I didn’t die because I’m a tank, but I caused like 8 players to die because they stood where I stood. It was quite embarrassing for me as a tank to not know what’s going on in the fight and that makes me not sure whether I want to main tank in the future.

I'm still gonna say play a DPS first if you have anxiety or if you're a sensitive person. (No shame in being so btw.) When I was a low level sprout I had a healer get full toxic on me in a low level dungeon, called a complete piece of shit tank and a moron and other things I wouldn't repeat here, because I wasn't multi-pulling and he died trying to pull more packs himself. (lmao!) We just vote kicked his ass and the other guys nicely told me that I should pull at least 2 packs and we all moved on, I've dealt with far worse people in WoW so not a big deal to me. But after that, I can understand "tanxiety" when pieces of shit like that guy roam in the community telling insecure and inexperienced tanks that they're complete garbage and should uninstall the game. I know other people can would really get hurt by that kind of comment. (Also gives a terrible first-impression of the community when you have the bad luck of meeting one of those gentlemen after only 10 hours.) If you play DPS first, you can see what other tanks do and it reduces the risks of you getting yelled at.

normally DPS when I started ff14 I could not tell what I was picking normally I play a mage I pick conjurer because sounded cool, tada healer, I played healer before on a few games so not so hard for me, made it the heavensword with my BF we play on crystal im in the UK so I tend to disconnect a little bit once every other hour, he's more local, we both want to play dark knight I create a new character in light to practice, I get into sastasha with a bit of tank anxiety and its a compleat shitshow, one of the DPS was wondering off to fight other enemies that I didn't even pull because it was too many for me and I was going at a decent pace but they kept pulling all the way to the boss at the end and he even pulled the boss before I could even react to it managed to take all that he pulled at least and took the boss off him, and remember to face him away so they could clap his booty, defiantly didn't calm my nerves down just made it worse for me trying to rush it when im doing it at a decent speed its not fun specially when you never tanked before and learing

Only ever tanked in mmos and ce in ff14. Something for all to keep in mind. Tanks and healers have more surface lvl shallow responsibility but in any hard content every role is equally important and mistakes are obvious to everyone regardless of role. You will not escape wiping your party or being the reason the boss enraged, everyone usually has fairly equal responsibility. Edit: my point is every role has a place to shine and kill every teammate and you WILL be the reason a fight is not cleared as a dps healer or tank. Play what is fun to you because its inescapable and you'll only get better if you like your class or role.

My Tank Anxiety stems from a deep seeded mistrust of healers that have allowed me to die thru no fault of my own. Take, for example, a run of the Minstrel's Ballad: Ultima's Bane for mentor roulette. I was on PLD and at 1 point, I just stopped receiving any heal at all. I used Hallowed Ground and STILL ended up dying due to not receiving a heal during the entire duration of HG and just ended up dead. Incompetent healers have made Tanking a no go for me.

? I didn't know this exists. I always felt the safest as tank, because you hardly ever die, deeming it to be the easiest job outta the 3. Especially in dungeons, you just cd and aoe, position yourself without aggravating the healer and you're set. Because of this, despite claiming to be a SAM main, I mainly use my DRK in the endgame runs. But DDs... if I fail to pass the dmg checks in savage, it'll most likely be my fault, as well as being as fragile as paper - one wrong move, and you die, losing important dmg. And to actually have more weaves than grandma's knitted scarf is an art form that goes down to fully have it in the muscle memory if you don't wanna fail. And healers have it the hardest imo, as they basically micromanage the entire group, can multi task like no other, and are able to adapt real quick (mostly) due to having no real rotation like the rest for the most part. Huge respect to all healer mains out there - except scholars; until you become useful again, you can jump off a microwave. :x But still, tanks compared to the other roles are so darn easy, which is why I picked up this role. Because thing is, I'd be the healer you order from wish: just knowing enough to barely keep you alive. No disrespect to those who have tank anxiety, though. I hope to have WHM as a 3rd main one day, however, after I've finished my BiS for DRK and SAM. c:

I've been a Tank main since 1.0 and have always had a YOLO mentality, no guides or tips, learned things myself because I find it more fun(Unless I'm having a real dumb moment and have no idea why we're wiping, then I'll just ask about what was causing it), sure there may have been wipes and such here and there, but the mechanics stick more IMO, i have been able to go in to almost all content and be like "Oh okay, so X is the same as y from z dungeon" and adapt to it, if I were to give any tip as a tank honestly it's don't sweat too much, i find a lot of matesthat try their hand at tanking get "Tank burnout" and usually drop the class or just get worse, in current patch tanking on any of the 4 classes is super easy, and if you're new to raid tanking, go off tank for a run and watch what the other tank does. Have fun tanking, and you'll naturally grow :D

Here are some tips for tanking in general: -when facing a boss try to get behind the boss so it turns it`s back to the rest of the group, because you can only parry what`s in front of you. This is true for players as well as npc`s/enemys, therefor you deny the opponent some defence raising the damage-output of your group. -try to save your cooldown-mitigation for bossfights, TBN and shorter mitigation-cooldowns (30 sec and less) are totaly fine for fighting ads in between bosses -when you face 1-2 enemys use your single-target abilitys, when there are 3 or more use your aoe-abilitys. This will increase your overall damage-output since 3x120 potency (360) is more than 1x300 potency -when in doubt use Living Dead, espacially if you are doing unknown content. It`s better to have it on cooldown than not using it at all and wiping the group I hope this will help you get a better feeling for DRK and the tank-jobs overall (and I hope this doesn`t sound to harsh, I don`t main tank but play it a lot for que-time reasons and often end up as the maintank even in unknown content). If you are looking for guides on specific jobs (for beginners as well as how to optimize your rotation with vast indepth knowledge) you should check out Desperius on KZread kzread.info/dash/bejne/g5-Ft8GbqZC0qqQ.html kzread.info/dash/bejne/lHWew6eplbSxnLQ.html kzread.info/dash/bejne/hI5q1LqAqpOXlrA.html In every case, enjoy the game and have a good life, Grim Ranga from Lich

it's changed since Heavensward or Stormblood that you dodge, parry and block from all directions bosses do neither of those only difference is mobs in the overworld being able to doge your attacks when they're higher level than you. You face the boss away from the party so the whole party can be close together for easier healing and mechanics handling while melees are doing their positionals. Also you generally face bosses away from to party so cleave attacks don't hit them. and in dungeons especially when you do big pulls you use especially the big and long CDs that's where massive damage is incoming. Dungeon bosses don't hit hard except for the tankbusters and your small CD is more than enough for that. heck if you're new and you don't know which attack the tankbuster in a normal dungeon is don't worry those won't kill you except for when your healer is sleeping or greeding the hell out of it.
