    As someone stated earlier in the comments, I think the idea behind the purple knockback circles is that you cannot negate the knockback through knockback inmunity actions. This is also consistent with the other common knockback indicators: the arrows pointing outwards (or inwards) from a source, where it tends to be orange when normal and purple when you cannot avoid it (such as in the latest Extreme, where the source is one of the healers). Some examples of indicators that may warrant a mention are the tankbusters, the "dorito" markers, and also a potential mention of "elemental" mechanics. That is to say that, in the same way you mention the pyretic and deep freeze mechanics being associated to fire and ice effects, there are certain effects being associated with other elements such as earth featuring AoEs that come in waves, water being associated with knockback, wind with donut AoEs, etc. Usually, knowing these help me understand mechanics easily at first glance, or even predict them. Although I guess that's too inconsistent and muddy to add to a video like this, as it is meant to be a bit more beginner friendly. Anyway, great video! I'm always happy to have resources I can send my friends when they start to recognize the most common markers fast and easy.

    Thank you for adding to the knock back discussion as well 😊 The elemental observation is actually a good point! Yeah it isn't always accurate, but donut aoes are a lot more common in wind fights, and knock back when water is present! 😊 It is worth considering at least to see how consistent these patterns are! Thank you so much! 😄

    Im gonna mention what I call puddles, when a player is marked with an aoe and when it resolves it leaves behind a lasting damaging effect on the ground. I can't count how many times Ive seen players just drop puddles wily-nily all over the place rather than taking the puddle away from the party and towards a wall. Though the variation of this, the spinning disks that will randomly wander an arena, can be somewhat annoying since even if you drop it at the wall it can still affect other people.

    This is true! The awkward thing with these types of mechanics is I feel often they use a generic spread marker! However, it can still be helpful to teach a new player how to deal with this type of mechanic for future reference! 😊

    if you're a sch, sge, or WHM, and you're not comfortable greeding gazes yet, you can turn around if you're close to the boss and use holy/art of war/dyskrasia so you can safely get a GCD in while staying faced away. ofc it's a loss over being able to greed glare/broil/dosis, but it's still a safe gain over just doing nothing at all

    Another thing to note about Scholar is Ruin 2 is an instant cast ((Same with Sage and Toxicon but that requires stacks of things)) which means as long as you're wiggling camera with rmb you can press that button and satisfy both mechanic and rotation. And astros? They're too busy looking at cards for glare effects to hit them XP

    A couple of mechanics that I feel are common enough to learn how to deal with them 1. Forced March mechanics- they appear in stormblood first I believe and are prevalent in quite a few bosses 2. Dorito stacks- This one happens quite often and I'll see people even in the dead ends run away from me when this happens 3. Grabbable tethers- While not usually in normal content I feel like this one warrants a mention 4. Exaflares- this one is becoming more and more prevalent as time goes on. There's a lot of variations of this, especially in the EW Alliance raids

    About the blue/purple circle You can use abilities like surecast to nullify the knockback of these attack only if the circle is blue Same thing with the old knockback symbol, like in P9 when the boss is in his beast phase If it orange, you can surecast it, if it purple, you cant Idk if it was really understandable but anyways your videos are nice to watch and always a pleasure to see a new video dropping

    Also in some occasions. 100% shielding the damage from the knock can cause you to not be pushed back. Most knockbacks that originate from the target's hotbox (not telegraphed) works this way

    There's another mechanic similar to proximity markers that I think could easily be covered. You see them in HW trials and the last HW Alliance raid some, but not too often in most normal content. Glowing green and yellow markers above 2-3 players is the most seen, and the mechanic results in a line AOE extending out from or to you. Either it can be avoided, or it means the marked players will get hit and they have to do their best not to overlap with other marked players and teammates, lest more people take damage. I know someone else brought this one up in another comment, but since "YOU are the AOE" is becoming a more common mechanic lately, I thought it best to mention since it has variants ranging from the attacking being unavoidable and you move it away your party, you decide where the AOE goes so you can create everyone's safety, or you become an AOE and thus need to ensure that you aren't accidentally killing your own team.

  • @CaetsuChaijiCh

    Oh yeah, those where the mechanic places a marker where you happen to be a while later! And then there's also the variant where it puts down like a star shape of line aoes! 😊 Thank you for the suggestions!

    6:04 Depending on the boss! For instance, the final boss of the first Ivalice (70) Alliance raid, has a mechanic where you need to move to avoid a debuff. "Flee and do not stop" Casting a spell DOES stop that mechanic from punishing you! This is very easy to see on Black Mage. Of course if we're only talking deep freeze and pyretic, that would make that correct.

  • @CaetsuChaijiCh

    @CaetsuChaijiCh

    The faces(?) mechanic from the boss in the first Ivalice raid I think is somewhat unique, but I was certainly not aware casting counted since I would normally treat it similarly to the deep freeze style and stay moving 😁 Thank you for mentioning it!

    For tank stack markers, note that it is an option to invuln through it, depending on the situation and whether you need your invuln later in the fight. For the any don't do anything mechanic, you can do that on console by pressing L1 and R1 simultaneously. That's how you sheath your weapon. It is safer than untargetting enemies, as being hit by an attack can target them again. At least it does for me. For the deep freeze mechanic, I tend to jump and run around frantically to get the attention of the other players, who may not know about it, and hope they understand what to do. Based on experience, that seems to be the go to way to teach others mechanics when you can't write due to being in combat. For the limit cut mechanic, there is a variant with a tether, that's one where you need to run away from the boss and the type of tether indicates if you're doing it right or not. And example of this is the last boss in Grand Cosmos in ShB. That's the spiked tether you explained in #08. You even showed footage from Grand Cosmos, but it was unsynced/solo and the limit cut can only happen when there's more than one player. Another important mechanic is forced march. And the mechanic where a player drops AoEs that follow them. Not sure what it's called. Tank swaps as well, but I don't remember any instance at anything below extreme difficulty, so not sure it needs to be in a video for newer players. Maybe I forgot or it was just not important, or it really only exists in EX or harder. No, that's wrong, the Alliance Raid is called The Wiping City of Mhach, not Weeping City. That's thanks to Forgall, Forgall just wipes alliances with Necropurge -> Mega Death. That's the law, if less than half the players die, the raid is broken.

  • @CaetsuChaijiCh

    @CaetsuChaijiCh

    10 ай бұрын

    Don't worry. If being attacked causes you to retarget the enemy, it does not cause you to start attacking automatically! It is simply a reliable way to stop auto attacks and anything else you might be doing! But the sheathing is also a good way to do it! 😄 I know some players unbind the sheath button on keyboard (Z), so that might be less consistent advice! Indeed grand cosmos has a variant of limit cut that combines the spiked tether and limit cut. It still performs the entire mechanic with just one person, it just only does it once 😊 Indeed, forced march is a good one. For the other one I call them chase aoes! 😁 For tank switching, very very few normal encounters offer it, and in most cases groups insist on not switching, since it usually isn't required! 😅 Yeah the mega death mechanic is incredibly unintuitive so it gets a lot of kills 😂

    @@CaetsuChaijiCh Interesting, didn't know that, I just sheathed my weapon. I learned how to do that when I farmed Titania EX for the mount. It is required to stop attacking right before the arena transition until Titania tethers a player to skip add phase. Something else players need to learn is to not be too undergeared. Like, at least use what the MSQ gives you or buy crafted gear off of the MB. Or use current tomestone gear. And don't go into extreme content or harder when your gear is bad. I had too many players like that in DF and sometimes in PF (but that's on me, I could've kicked them). But not sure you can teach them that in a video. Still, might be good to teach players how to get gear while doing MSQ and how to start getting into higher difficulty content. Yes, fail mega death or disband... Oh, wait, different fight, different mechanic, different meme.

    An addition for gazes: Fir the most part, when gazes are simply part of a cast going off, whether or not you are hit is snapshotted when the castbar goes off, so once the bar is full you can start attacking again. There are a few exceptions, but the only one I can recall offhand that pops up a lot is Angra Mainyu in World of Darkness. For that one, you have to turn away and not face him again until you see the miss indicator. The rest you'll typically be safe as soon as the castbar is finished. Also this obviously doesn't apply to more complex mechanics where the gaze comes in the middle of everything, such as P8.

  • @CaetsuChaijiCh

    @CaetsuChaijiCh

    10 ай бұрын

    Indeed! Generally, just like with most other mechanics, the snap shot happens when the cast bar finishes. But I feel like a surprising amount of gazes have some sort of awkward timing, and the safest way is to wait until the game says go, even if sometimes you could safely go a bit earlier 😊

Also ExaFlares, plenty of those and finally i would add player to player tethers that need to be broken/tethers than need you to stay close or do somethings IE the vaults final boss for tethers that need breaking, Zurvan extreme for tetehrs that need you to stay close and the Ramuh tether that requires players to stop attacking and collect the electric orbs, or the battle IN the big keep first boss where the tethered players need to move together as examples of different player tethers

    with how common some of these are (and how often i see players run with a stack marker) i feel SE needs to add more to the house of the novice, add an "now for more advanced lessons" section or some other name. If it was me, i would make it level 50 and give a weapon (iLVL 130) for the job doing it, then a message explaining tomes and such.

    there are these follow arrow markers...idk what they're called, chase markers? The final boss of the 2nd EW dungeon has one for example. I don't quite understand how to dodge it, 90% of the time I get hit by every strike and just die no matter what I do. Do I have to run in a straight line do dodge it? If yes, when do I have do that? Before or after the attacks go off? Or is something different? I just don't get it..

  • @CaetsuChaijiCh

    These are often called chase markers. They usually do circle aoes repeatedly that gradually get closer to you, so you want to make sure it spawns away from everyone, and then make your way as far away as you can (without it pathing into your party!) For the 2nd EW dungeon specifically, if you make sure to spawn it all the way to the left (or right), you are safe if you then run all the way to the right (or left), as it stops before it reaches you in this case. You can typically tell when the attack "spawns" when the marker is replaced by a circle aoe! I hope this helps!

    The mechanic where you have to rapidly click your mouse or buttons on keyboard/controller failure to do so results in everyone wiping usually The mechanic with the last pandemonium raid with the tethers bringing in the donuts and the orbs where donuts do a donut at the spot and orbs do circular aoes they kinda did it in 3rd hw alliance raid with clown boss doom mechanics usually require one of three ways to resolve- Esuna with white lines above the doom debuff, over healing target to full, or usually standing on a light up seal or some other mechanic In the rokkon variant dungeon there’s a lot of mechanics but I’ll just name two, the repeated 1st boss doing red aoe that is a future mechanic you resolve not when the markers are out but when the effects go off which you can also see this in shb 1st alliance raid final boss, and the samurai is kinda a variance of the future mechanic you have to stare at when the arrow is pointing to at the time of the movement and not when the markers are showing Technically another one from variant or other duties when you see the whole arena showing wind blowing from one side to the other you have to get to the side the “wind” lines are blowing from The ew 2nd 83 dungeon for example with the plus and minus symbols or even the other concept in the sb 2nd alliance raid final boss plus and minus arena split usually to resolve u don’t want plus with plus or minus with minus. They also do this with the duty in bozja on the top side of the 1st encounter This game really comes out with a ton of mechanics lol sorry I listed a lot

    Does the game explain any of those ingame? Because just based of the effects, you have to guess what the game wants from you. Im currently in the post-story after ARR and its super annoying that every other MANDATORY Duty throws a mechanic at you, where you have no idea what to do. Crysalis was by far the worst so far at that. You run into those orbs and they damage you and give you a debuff, making you think - "Alright, dont touch them. Probably a dodge mechanic, that kills you with an attack afterwards if you gather too many." Well... wrong. Isnt it obvious that you have to run into these things that damage and debuff you?!? Sure! Same goes for the meteor mechanic - are people meant to try around until they find something that works out? How are new tanks supposed to know that they have to catch fkin meteors?!? The game never introduced something like that before. Not to mention how ARR is in general all over with its effects and how they are displayed. Including Vanilla the game is over a decade old. Why did they never fix ARR and build a solid introduction to things for new players? Why do they shove all the responsibility to other players? (Well, of course to save time and money, but still - what a lazy pack.) And people are wondering why nobody wants to play roles with responsibility or quit the game halfway through ARR. Yeah, crazy. I wonder why... I only hope that at least the story gets better in Heavensward. That might be the only redeemable part of this game until now for me, because even the so highly praised story of this game stinks hard until this point. Alone the fact that half of the cutscenes are not even voiced is ridiculous. Even more given how long FFXIV is already one of the most successful MMOs that we have, so it should have been easy to add voicelines to the ones that were originally left out.

  • @CaetsuChaijiCh

    Some common boss mechanics are things where you are supposed to learn them as they come up, and since they often use the same indicators for them, you will eventually understand. Or, you will learn from other players explaining it usually (it is a social MMO after all..!) In regards to The Chrysalis, which some of those mechanics you describe come from, this is what I often refer to as "mean mechanics". They are difficult, or impossible to understand on the first go, and you often even HAVE to get them explained. They often thrive on your lack of knowledge of the mechanic, and I don't think it is very well designed for "normal difficulty content", as this type of content is usually meant to be beaten in one go, and not over multiple attempts, like Extremes or harder typically are designed for. I think part of the problem with circling back and adding voice lines to the older parts of the game, especially ARR, is that they changed voice actor agency, or something like that, from ARR to Heavensward and onward. Which means they won't really have access to the original voice actors, which would make those voice lines seem exceptionally strange.

    @@CaetsuChaijiCh The switch only happened for the EN voices and i dont see an issue with redoing them completely. Its not like they voiced a lot in ARR in the first place. Also a social MMO? Who said that? In fact its actually crazy how often FFXIV is named whenever people ask for Solo MMOs and im really wondering why dafuq that is. Also if that were the case, why did they add more and more (tho bad) options to play solo with NPCs? Which imo should in fact be implemented much more consequently, because they would fix major issues with the "Chosen One" narrative, with the excessive queue times for some of the mandatory dungeons and bosses AND could be utilized as actual tutorials for new players. Tho why they have three of those systems that are bad instead of one that is well implemented... well i guess thats just more of the japanese development bullshittery. Dont question, dont ask - just put another bandaid on the bandaid and call it fixed. Honestly i yet have to see a single system in this game that feels consequently implemented and with some thought in mind. Oh wait... there is one - the overabundant use of lightflashes in attacks and skilleffects, because apparently they they choose to have less visual diversity between spells than a 50 dollar premade Unreal Spell pack. But hey, at least they give the lightflashes different colors here and there. Wooohoo! Its literally the fourth time im trying this game out (the first time was when Stormblood came out), straight went into the noobtrap of having to pay subs permanently whenever i want to play, after just buying the starting pack and since then they barely did anything to improve this game and especially the onboarding experience with ARR. Is there anything i can do to make this thing enjoyable to at least find out if the story is worth anything? At least that is what most people praise about this game. (hence why i think it should be made more solo friendly)
