Everyone says the combat is slow at first just don't realize it's like that so you can learn how to play the class

Learning to play the class is a good reason to start slow, but they go a little too hard on it. You should start with at least a good portion of a rotation, and then slowly build the rest of it in. At the same time, they should probably bundle a few more abilities together. I'm finally leveling my dragoon, just got it to 75, and some of the earlier levels have you developing bad habits because you don't have future abilities yet, so it can actually be a bit confusing. Also, I've played this game since the 1.0 beta, and it's come a long way, but I'd still be 100% down for a 1.5 sec GCD. Yes, you can double-weave oGCDs at times and it does get chaotic, but even at max level there'll be times when you're out of GCDs and just hitting your basic rotation/priorities, and it still feels slow. Not unbearably slow or anything, but hitting buttons is fun! Let me hit more buttons!

@@Xbob42 Yeah, teaching is very vital. I don't necessarily agree that it's too slow. Especially at lvl 80. But I agree with the bad habit. DRG used to be my main and it completely changes once you get BotD. haha I hope with 6.0 we'll get similar ability condensing as PvP ), meaning the same button circles through the 3 combos. That would certainly free up space. Nobody uses a tier 2 combo before 1 anyway, so they might as well. And I really hope we get back more synergy between classes. The DPS or bust mentality slowly kills the game for me, honestly.

No it’s slow because ffxiv is based off the ff games of turn based combat , hence why it’s skills are mostly 2.5 seconds gcd which reflects turn based. Nothing to do with learning your class. The combat is slow as fuck and that’s all lol

The one thing you missed talking about when you went over the story is the most important thing for me, personally, when it comes to the story: You don't start out as the hero. You're some washed up nobody that can't even remember who they were before the Bahamut thing happened. You slowly grind your way through a bog of cliché quests until things begin to heat up and you start making a name for yourself. You see important events happen, you're in the middle of it, suddenly you meet important people and join a secret club of badasses. From there you skyrocket with every expansion, going further and further until people are in awe the moment they see you. You ARE the hero of legend because you earned it. Not just the character but the player as well. You suffered in front of the screen (because let's face it, the story has its weak moments/phases), you put in the effort, and now you are being rewarded for it by having your ego stroked in a meaningful way. Yet you aren't the end-all-be-all of the world. You're still just one person that needs their friends to get shit done properly. They'll leave the god-slaying to you but have their own, very unique moments of badassery that you can't help but admire when they happen. These friends aren't just there to pat your head and throw loot at you, no, they are there along your journey and you come to appreciate every single one of them (looking at you especially, Urianger and Alisaie). FFXIV's story is a masterpiece, Shadowbringers first and foremost, I have NEVER experienced a video game story that touched me so deeply and so often like FFXIV's did. I am trying hard to not fanboy here, it is just objectively how it is. I am big on story in games. If the lore is crap, the game wont do it for me. FFXIV is a true Final Fantasy title in that regard. It has a powerful, complex story with amazing characters and it flaunts it every chance it gets. From the mellowest of slice-of-life moments to andrenaline-fuelled heavy metal boss fights, it's got it all. PLEASE give this game a chance, person reading this. If you can survive the story-slog, you will be hooked forever.

I mean, this happens multiple times per expansion. I'm getting fear of commitment now. "I'm enjoying quests with this new NPC... oh no. What's going to happen to them? Is THIS the cutscene they die in? Oh, phew, it looks like a happy ending... wait... the cutscene is still going... WHAT'S HAPPENING???"

I appreciate how the story (specifically ShB) reminds you that while you are everyone's great hero and can even be idolized past the point of being seen as mortal -- a central point is that no matter how strong or skilled you are, you can't fight alone. The Warrior of Light genuinely gets character development, which is nice. It doesn't feel like they've taken my autonomy with doing that. it enhances it all imo. Especially the drk job quests that really let you explore your PC's trauma and the pressures heaped onto them.

@@Lilac_Literature Yes, that is so true. The story has all these wonderful nuances and the side and job quests sometimes only enhance the awesome. The DRK quests specifically did a wonderful job giving us a glimpse into the WoLs inner world. No wonder the writer for these quests became the main writer for Shadowbringers.

It might be worth correcting, "the free trial takes leads you up to the most recent expansion" isn't entirely true. There's the base game (A Realm Reborn) and three expansions (Heavensward, Stormblood, Shadowbringers), and the free trial only takes you through Heavensward, so there's two expansions of content you can't get on the free trial. Still definitely worth checking out if you're interested though, and you'll only have to buy the most recent expansion anyway since it'll give you Stormblood too.

Yeah I was gonna notify about that. More importantly tho they extended through Heavensward, where the combat system really takes off and the story becomes truly amazing. ARR and 2.1-2.5 never had that allure, HW onwards is where the game shines.

When you don't have an interesting villain (Zenos is psycho and eeeeeevil), and your sidekick is kind of annoying and nonsensical (I didn't really like Lyse), the cracks start to show :/ SHB is great tho, huge return to form and concluding a 5-year long running story arc :D

If you finish the free trial, do you have to buy the base game first to get Shadowbringers and Stormblood? Or do you just have to buy the expansions?

@@user-em6ks9eu7l depends on the platforms. They sell whole package. But you need base game ARR. Then expansion pack HW, SB, ShB. Free trial now is unlimited time. You get to play base game + the first expansion HW up to lvl 60. That's a lot of content. You will end up playing free trial for 2 months unless you skip cut scenes which you shouldn't do it. You'll miss so much of the stories. Anyways if you decide to get subscription don't forget to exchange friend code to get a special mount. If you forget then you might not get it ever.

Me: Oh neat, another first impressions video. I'll watch but I hope he was able to get through ARR to see the rest of the game. Also Me: He's in Bozja?! The fuck? Nice video man. Regardless of which game you will spend your time with, I am glad you've enjoyed your stay in Eorzea so far.

@@Dualities not sure which type of ui you are referring to, but when you are in a pvp area and see the HUD menu you can change duty specifc yis like Rival Wings' or feast's, you haven't already :) also yeah i would like 2v2 and 3v3 hhahah

I've been playing FFXIV for a month and it has been such a fun experience. I'd like to get more involved in community events, and get to know more people in the community. I'm learning new things every time I sign in.

If you're not in one, I recommend you join a Free Company. Look at recruitment messages or send an application to a random one that looks cool, find one with people that you click with. The social aspect of XIV is one of its biggest selling points imo, and it really improves the experience.

There's the community finder for FCs and Linkshells, and you can keep an ye on the Party finder as people regularly will advertise ingame events like parties or general cafes and stuff!

I just followed because this video kept me engaged, the content is great and the video is really well done! If your channel doesn't blow up I'd be massively surprised! Also I just started XIV (been playing WoW since 2007) so wish me luck :)

I remember years ago seeing FFXIV on my PS4 and thought, “This seems cool, I guess I’ll try out the free trial and see what it’s like.” With it being my very first MMO, I was confused and lost with where I was and what I was doing. After a long while, I slowly was able to get a good grasp on the core gameplay and its workings. I never thought I’d see myself even getting close to leveling the other classes, but here I am with only 3 classes left to max out. It’s truly an amazing game to experience and I’m happy to see you’re liking it as well! (P.S. Lalafells are potatoes and I refuse to think otherwise)

Welcome to FFXIV. I too went from 2 years of BDO to FFXIV. I wasn't sure what I was getting into then I started playing, after the crazy fast pace of combat of BDO. I was engaged out the gate. When I got to HW it had me. I couldn't stop playing. I've been playing for almost 2 years for now and I really enjoy my time spent here in FFXIV, I even stepped into the high end raiding content, the whacky sect that is the roleplay sector in the crystal data center. Don't get me started on the MUSIC, the entire soundtrack of this game is insanely good. I've never had music shift my mood so hard in a scene. While there are things about BDO I loved (Character creator, housing, combat system.) FFXIV gave me so much more than I expected. So welcome, enjoy your stay. Enjoy a game that I personally find, so beautiful, that I keep playing. Edit: I just checked my playtime in FFXIV.... Oh man rofl. 4354 hours. Really is the gift that keeps on giving hahaha.

Yes! Its an amazing game. Indeed, we are in for a long ride! Haven't had this feeling about a game in a long time.

As someone who has done the exact same thing (going from BDO to FFXIV) I want to definitely welcome you to the experience. I stopped playing BDO in 2019 after I played BDO every day for a year and a half (I had gotten away from another MMO "Mabinogi" after playing it for 8 years). I went to FFXIV on a whim as I had tried to play back during Stormblood but was turned off by the combat style, but I offhandedly one day saw someone's comment on Reddit that said "Think of the GCDs as the ""Turns"" in the older turn based FF games" I took that information (as I've played every FF game and loved them) and tried again after the launch of Shadowbringers and got HOOKED immediately. I played for 230 hrs and then subbed and haven't looked back, I still play to this day enjoying the content and going at my own pace, I'm almost caught up with MSQ and have a total of 1700+ hrs. Sorry for the long comment but I just love watching people discover this masterpiece so welcome and if you know anyone who's interested but is hesitant, let them know that it has free trial and to have fun :)

I'm hoping Square can shorten the starting pace of the game somehow because legit, once you get to Heavensward, everything clicks, the combat becomes "fast" with the oGCDs and loads of fight mechanics and job mechanics and the story is arguably the main selling point IMO, Shadowbringers is actually strong enough story wise to stand with the mainline games which is crazy. I love the game, wish it was easier to recommend sonce the slow start gives people the wrong impression of combat.

if you want fast gameplay out the gate pgl/mnk is the way to go. they get their combos pretty early though the job doesn't click till 70 due to how they set up what skills you get when. like for aoe rotation monk gets skill 1 then skil 3 you gotta weave in a single target skill which can feel weird. If they make anything short, it will make max level harder to play.

Don't worry, when they rearrange the action distribution in 6.0, and things get spread out more, combat will be slow until Stormblood instead. (Jokes... hopefully)

The gradual introduction of new abilities can be frustrating for players who know what they're doing in MMOs but for first time players (i.e. someone who's only played FF) it gives them time to understand how each ability fits before giving access to the next one. Honestly even as someone who knows what I'm doing I wouldn't be half as good without that gradual introduction of abilities. This is also why you can see a boosted job from a mile off btw, they don't understand how the puzzle fits together.

@@Shadowfire5444 I agree to an extent but the time between being a beginner and then knowing what you're doing but not having everything for you job to get all it's mechanics is way too long IMO, like you're playing a really long time to fet to Heavensward and the only alternative is boosting but that's too extreme in the opposite way where you have info overload and won't know where to even start.

Welcome to the game man. Hope you have fun here as well as in BDO :) I think they both complement each other perfectly: BDO for me is a perfect pvp mmo, while FF14 is a very good pve mmo.

ive never heard of anyone praising the msq levelling system in a while so this was a pleasant surprise honestly. i didnt find it to be as bad as a lot of people make it out to be :)

The slog starts around Storm Blood. So best to grind levels up to 70 asap for your classes before road to 70 buff wears off, the +200% EXP RATE is something you will never get ever again, a single MSQ can level you up 3x faster to overlevel and avoid grinding to do each sections.

fyi: u can actually adjust the size of the Bahamut a SMN summons with a text command

Prior to FFXIV the only mmo I tried was dc universe online but it could not keep my interest for more that an few months. After joining FFXIV I tried neverwinter and Tera but I love FFXIV. I also took a break from BDO and tried ff14 and I've been hooked onto it since dec 8.

It's always a pleasure for me to see new people give a chance to final fantasy XIV and get surprised by all stuff this game have o/ Something you didn't mention is : you can do ALL JOB (combat, craft or harvester class if you prefer ) with ONE CHARACTER. You don't need to create an another character with a different class to test it all, you just need to find the first quest of each class to unlock it and unlocke their stories ;)

I'm at 743 days, 3 hours, and 26 minutes at the time of this post in FFXIV. I have also been playing since the start. I don't mind helping newer people as well so if you ever want some help I can give it. I always enjoy people coming from other MMO's and falling in love with this game. Enjoy yourself and more importantly, enjoy the journey.

i guess my biggest question that i have not fully heard of is how is the PvP scene? i mean i'm not really good at raids in general, but like to learn and the communtiy seems cool AF from a vast majority, but like i like a mix of both PvP and PvE lol more so PvP

As someone who plays both games, glad you enjoy ffxiv. I did the opposite you did and went back to bdo while taking a break from ffxiv (which i prob shouldn't since 5.4 is still fairly recent). Edit: i'm probably one of the few that has an inkling of what the story is in bdo. PA doesn't help the case when they're remastering story while not cleaning up the retcons they made in the game lol

Same here, it was totally my fauly to play tank without doing tutorial, and the team actually showed me how to do that in a mid dungeon without complaints.

as someone who has a level 80 class and 5 more almost to 80, you need side quests and daily dungeon roulettes to level quickly, unless its disciple of the hand/land then you just need to make sure you check off everything from your crafting and gathering lists

Sure, the game and the story can be silly or wholesome but it really goes to extremes both ways which is a thing I love in storytelling. There are jokes and funny cutscenes and wholesome moments, and there are also parts of the story that are outright disturbing or even creepy. It's the kind of story that could make you sad cry, happy cry or cry laugh.

Did you try out any Extreme/Savage Content yet?

Yeah I didnt enjoy much other MMO but im really hooked on FF14 rn . I got like 9 days of play times in a bit more than 1 month. The story is really good and theres so much thing to do I"m glad I gave this game a shot and a + is I stopped playing league of legends because of it so I actually enjoy playing a game now xD

Played BDO as well ,and after getting my first PEN i felt lost. Its just grinding yet again and was getting worn out. After a few days of FFXIV the content is way better and rewarding.

200 hrs in 2 months ?! Me: 300hrs in 3 weeks.....

I have played a bit of the trial version and really enjoy it so far. However I hate the subscription model. I understand it's how they keep the game constantly fresh with new content which keeps the player base coming back for more, but man. I wish the price per month was lower. £7.69 per month in the UK as I type seriously adds up. I wish there was a yearly subscription option with a deep discount.

Dude I play bro everyday and have for consoler for 2 yrs and pc for 1 yr.. I've been thinking about ff online for awhile dude how that I have apc that can handle any thing.. Thsnx it held my decision

Its a great game! I still do play bdo and love that game to death. but they are two very different games so whatever im in the mood for it gives me an option

Having bit dilemma of the games. Do you like FFXIV more? Since both games are good and BDO feels more fast paced early wich is nice. I guess FFX want you feel the experience more of being newbie and feel each level count and spike wich is nice aswell rewarding as you said. Really glad how you enjoyed the games, especially FFX you said. Hopefully get same excitment and joy when playing it again :). Gotta sub detailed and wholsome.

Thanks for the kind comment :) ! I think between he two games its tough for me to say which one prefer better. I would say that I prefer BDO's grinding and PVP. So when im in a hardcore sweaty mood ill play bdo. But I love FFXIV's story and gameplay as well as group play. So I think I can play FFXIV at any point.

Like Leauge and MK11 gameplay. Wich made me come across PS02 and Lost ark. Heard good about them. I heading more to casual mmo curently. What do you think of them, mby can even make a video of it.

@@revivedsoul1099 A FFXIV with BDO combat would be an amazing game! I do plan on making some videos on the upcoming MMOs like Lost Ark. I think Lost Ark is going to be really great because of the great combat and PVP as well as boat loads of stuff to do. The beta will release later this week so I will be doing a first impressions of that. I also played ps02 and that game is something I can talk about as well. These are great suggestions BTW :)

I still think all melee dps are equally fast in lvl 80. The difference is dragoon has the simplest rotation than the others.

I started playing 8 months ago and 3 months of that was spent in game.

i like how you say that the start of the story and game is slow and dare i say boring but like u said things get much better later on and all the new players out there actually have it pretty easy as before ARR MSQ was really boring and there was so many side quests u had to do before u could get into heavensward that a lot of people saw that and stopped but since they changed that there has been a great amount of new people joining the game and its great to see BTW if anyone needs help or questions about the game let me know id be more then willing to help anyone out

What I love about FF14 and why I played it since 1.0 is that there's SO much to do you'll literally never finish it all, there's always something to come back to.

As a female Midlander Hyur (ha-ha, how original), I’d say you chose well with picking male Miqo’te. Their ear and tail wiggles when you do the /joy emote are the best! Hell, my boyfriend is a cat boy and does that to me all the time whenever he feels the need to cheer me up.

I have 1000 hours in ff14 and I still feel like a new players and haven't finished the main story yet (I do have completionist issues though)

I've got 1600 hours and I'm only up to patch 5.1 in the story lmao I've spent too much time in the gold saucer and soloing heaven on high

A friend has really been pushing me towards ffxiv, and im only level like 15 or something, but after bdo, the tab target combat, the loading screens between areas of the world and playpen style world design in each section of the world to keep you from wandering out other than through one of the predesignated exits, and the lack of detail in facial and body customization in character creator.... I get frustrated every time I try to get back into it. Oh and bdo- its also got dragons (nouver and garmoth), may have race and gender locked clases but has several similar clases in case you want them in a diffrent gender, and does have giants, elfs and shais as alternative to human classes (just thought I'd mention some of that because you had a few misleading comments). But i will push up to the end of the free trial with ffxiv, because like i said my friend also really recomends it. However with the whole subscription plus expansion buying model, its going to really have to blow me away to switch it for the bdo pay as you go, free updates and world expansions not dependant on how much money you've put into it model.

definitely understandable, I had also already quit once at around level 15-20 because of the same reasons but I got back into it on a new account 7 months later and now I've been playing nothing but this for the past 5 months lol. The start really is a slog though, once you start to learn more about the game and get more abilities and dungeon/trial variety it starts to feel so much better

good game for sure... but am looking forward to blue protocole

God this game has so much fucking content like holy shit, i have 850+ hours in this game and i havent even beaten Shadowbringers MSQ yet xDD keep getting distracted by every new thing i find xD from Relic weapon grinds, to eurak, gold saucer, random dungeosn and raids, mandervill storyline, beast tribes, crafting, gathering and even more. I hadnt fallen so hard in love with a game sinc forever!

I play both xiv and BDO. I do like BDO more over all, however raiding is fun and it keeps me on xiv on the side.

I played BDO for 8 hours and quit. I actually didn't know how integral for me the story and world is for me to be invested into a game tbh. Welcome to FF14 tho, enjoy your stay :D

funny fact at the time of watchin this i had to update BDO and am currently at 683 hours onj Final Fantasy 14

bruh I remember myself, I was so addicted it took me one week to beat the game, after 2 weeks I was already raiding alexander and after another month of grinding almost speed running laboratory with my friend we both had our finished anima for what people took usually around six months xD yeayea took me almost 2 years to come back because I was to burned out haha

I think the developers talked about it. FF14 is a Final Fantasy first, MMO second. That's why MSQ is so good.

One thing that FF14 spoils me with compared to other mmos is the character combat animations and keeping a sense of progression from beginning to end. In most mmos, you either start TOO flashy at the beginning and have no room to grow or even see what's going on most of the time (BDO), your abilities are heavily frontloaded and you've seen everything there is to learn in the first day with nothing to look forward to as you level (world of warcraft), or the animations are so limited and noodley, for lack of a better way to describe it, that it somehow just feel "weak" (ESO). FF14 nails it and somehow keeps looking good even if you turn off your own particle effects.

“Full rotation” Me: Pretty much only goes healer in raids/trials/dungeons because of queue times.

I bought the game when shadow bringers came out. Didn't really play it past like an hour or so. I believe the mount is from the limited edition purchase.

I remember, die on first soar or kick, old raid mechanics were 10-20% of the people stand outside or did nothing because it was so boring doing the same raid every day, people cry over alex savage 9-12 because they are not willing to hear or watch a guide o.o

Your audio is a bit quiet. I had to max my volume on my phone to hear you.

I get very sad because every ffxiv player knows how the combat and trials of this game are good fun and challenging. HOWEVER it is very difficult to present to friends because the game starts very slow and easy and most people stop playing because of the large amount of quests and hours needed to reach the challenging content.

"People are really helpful"... well yes but also no A lot of people are kind but... were also really scared. "Unwarranted tips" is something that gets thrown back at you if a question wasnt asked when you try to help someone obviously struggling... BUT! If someone does ask, heck yeah, lets get to learning! But too often people dont ask and then they get upset with you... so... were scared. Please ask, we will be nice if you ask, but were afraid of the much too numerous bad apples who dont want to hear what we have to say :(

adding 2v2/3v3 PVP map would be an awesome addition. like the ones from The King Avatar Heavens Arena or glory Arena. also reducing the size of the UI in PvP would be a great addition too. and enabling Blue mage for PvP everybody wants it. Kirito was Blue Mage, Main character from the Kings Avatar was also classless...or magical mele class...like Witch Jiexi from the King's avatar. so much fun potential

FF14 is by far the best mmo on the market, best community too

You talked about positionals while staring the boss in the face >.> Dragoon needs to be about 5'oclock or 7'oclock to be able to easily switch to flank or back attacks to proc the full rotation.

i tried bdo... i got confused with in 10 min as i had no idea what to do or what the game wanted me to accomplish. didn't help the xbox port of it sucks A bit of info as long term player. ff14 ARR was built for "new to mmo" players in mind which is why it has a slow start. the higher you level faster you get. i'm in the nearly done with the base shadowbringers story so my jobs have most/all their skills. If they reduce the cd anymore it make the game hard to play on some jobs due to the amount of weaving in ogcd you do. Also game runs at a 250 ms ping so players can not have issues with lag due to being father away from the dc. im lvling 4 jobs to 80 atm and none of them are slow paced, in fact sometimes i do not get to do my full rotation due to mobs dying too fast. Or i wait a bit long to press a ogcd due to doing my main combo to upkeep a dot/buff.

What took you so long to convert bdo is nothing compared to sexy lalafells. Also lalafell master race.... just sayin, we get all the pats.

every time I see comments like this, in all my years playing XIV, from 1.0 to now, I have never been screamed at when offering advice. perhaps you should re-evaluate how you dispense your advice, that may be where you are in error. sometimes how you say something is far more important that the information you are conveying. this goes for you and all those who wish to be helpful players in game and in life.

As a Conjurer...holy crap..I hate this game..coming from BDO where everything is so fast and fluid..to not even being able to move..to wait to seconds to cast a single ability..that does 10% of the enemies health. A kill quest for 8 frogs..turns into a snooze fest as I spam stone over and over and over and over. Combat is definitely a low point..and it frustrated me that my bdo friends were flying through the quests. And killing monster before I even had a chance to cast a single ability. I was so upset that I skipped all the way through the main quest until a boss fight..when I realized stuff was actually happening. The story definitely saved the game for me..since it really does make me feel like I'm a badass..even though I'm better off throwing rocks at the enemy instead of casting Rock. My friends help me with missions..but the solo boss fights...SUCK

the old "if you spend hundreds of hours playing this game, it eventually becomes good" recommendation

the world isnt called eorzea, the world is just called the source, eorzea is the region of land in aldenaard that comprises everything west of gyr abania (or the region ala migho is in) so eorzea is gridania, limsa lominsa, uldah, and ishgard as of heavensward, the continents of ilsabard and othard are not connected to eorzea, as regions such as garlamald and doma exist on those other 2 continents along with the ruby sea and hingashi

Great game! Glad you found it. BDO is absolute trash btw LOL. Calling it a MMO is a joke, more like a single player Korean Casino, oh then theres the skills. At first you think its fast and pretty then you realise how fucked and clunky the animations are. Absolute garbo, feels bad for those whales for spend thousands XD

Its slow even with you savage + just go play anything else youl see the difference

I just downloaded ffxiv so lets see...some more pvp feastures would be nice...like blue mage in pvp, heavens arena from the kings avatar for 2v2/3v3...and bring sblr to make ui for enemies and allies smaller

@@Dualities sure pvp is lacking in this game because it's not the main focus at all. But at level 30 the combat is like 20% of what it's going to be at higher level. Not even the pve is great yet because the start is meant to be very beginner friendly for people who have never played mmos before.

From another BDO veteran, FFXIV is a sad alternative. If you get bored of BDO play some singleplayer RPG games or some FPS for a break, or if you are so compelled play ESO. FFXIV is a sad excuse for any real MMO fan that got bored with good MMOs the only thing the game offers is a story which as I said just play a singleplayer game. BDO has a lot of problems that are being fixed although it's still 100% quality wise the best out there, just look at BDO in 2018 vs now. FFXIV is for wimps. BDO is chad. Look at asmongold he look like he taking a vacation in furriesland might as well play IMVU or VRchat. We all get burned out of BDO but always come back. You get burned out of work you take a vacation it's the same everywhere. Enjoy FFXIV but remember BDO is where it's at
