@@realitycheck908 Alonso is way better driver than Sainz. He is right up there with the very best. He also had a faster car than Sainz. Sainz failed to create some distance even though Alinso and LH were fighting.

In every corner... While on the perspective of Hamilton onboard, it looks like Hamilton overtook Alonso, but after the curve finishes Alonso just appears in front of Hamilton out of nowhere. It's just pure masterclass.

Not really. They call Hungary "Monaco without walls" because of how easy it is to defend there. Hamilton coming from behind to finish on the podium was far more impressive.

Like I said, coming from so far behind to take a podium is far more impressive than holding up someone for a few laps on the second easiest track in F1 to defend on.

@@camkinoz1434 No hurt here, just an appreciation of skill and wheel-to-wheel craftsmanship to overtake multiple drivers on the second most difficult track to overtake on in F1. Lewis has been doing this since GP2, nothing new from this pilot.

Alonso had done this for almost a whole race with Schumacher trailing him in his ferrari, and he did that with a car with a broken engine. This is Alonso just getting warmed up.

Lewis Hamilton finished two seconds behind Esteban Ocon and one second behind Sebastian Vettel. in the last four laps, he was getting closer to them by two to three seconds per lap. Fernando Alonso held him up for TEN laps. do the math.

It's Hamilton man, the same guy who got held up for multiple laps by Perez when a world title was on the line. Despite the fact Perez was driving a slower car and was on much older tyres. Taking into account that the whole team was against Alonso because they were a British team supporting a British driver and also because the British always were racist towards the Spanish, I wouldn't buy your opinion. @@monetum1392 Nah, difference here was simply that Lewis had way more to lose - already being ahead of Verstappen on the road. Both Verstappen and Hamilton are hyper-aggressive when it comes down to title-relevant battles, but they're talented enough to make it work 99% of the time. Lewis's mistake in Silverstone was just an uncharacteristic misjudgement, not him or Max being any more or less aggressive than they always are.

when did he say that , didnt you hear lewis after the race he said thats how driving should be and i couldnt agree more , lewis gave alonso space when he felt there would be contact and so did alonso , the fact that both of them werent overly agressive and knew the limit is truly exceptional they didnt make moves that could hinder the entire race of the other driver or even themselves.

Every driver should learn from that battle, Alonso did a defensive masterclass against a much faster Merc. He just showed everyone that you can defend even if your opponent is much faster on the right track and if done well

Alonso had more to gain for team/mate but not much to lose by running his car wide. Lewis had a lot more to lose (championship lead) if they collided, thus why he would always backed out. The battle at Hungary is overblown really. lol especially considering it's a train track that's already almost impossible to overtake. Ask Vettel and all the other drivers that day who were stuck.

As an Alonso fan, what saddened me the most about Hamilton finally overtaking him wasn't the fact that Hamilton was ahead of him once more, but the battle was over.

Came here looking for this comment. I noticed this during the race, Alonso knew Hamilton would have a better run to turn 2, so by hesitating he caused Hamilton to lose momentum and therefore no challenge into turn 2.

Well spotted. Hamilton saw it too and thats why he hung back a little more on the next lap so Alonso couldn't do the same thing again. The lockup from Fernando helped out too, but Croft clearly didn't understand what Lewis was doing from his comment at 2:23...

It was the immense amount of pressure from Hamilton that made Alonso lock up.. I don't understand why people try and act like Alonso just randomly locked up.. You try defending the greatest F1 driver of all time for 10 laps in a weaker car.. It was inevitable he would get him but that was class from Alonso to hold him off for that long.

We demanded. We got it. And we LOVED it.

You canot deny Alonso's greatness in this. he was able to defend a vastly superior car which could do a second a lap quicker with ease. lewis was on fresher mediums, alonso on old hards. this is a true legend, and possibly one of the greatest up there with schumacher and senna.

Absolutely one of my favorite moments from this season so far.

Fantastic defending from Alonso, reminds me of Canadian GP where Lewis tries to brake to get DRS but Alonso anticipates this and brakes as well, securing the DRS. Fantastic drivers both of them.

That Alpine defending against the supersonic Mercedes with DRS, with vortices flying off the wings, rubbing wheels, locking up…it looked heroic.

I remember a race in Singapore where Alonso holded Vettel for most of the race. Fernando won by less than 3 tenths. Indeed he is one of the best defenders I’ve ever seen, he’s still got it!

Actually he did that the entire race. After the race he said that he allowed Vettel to be close to him on purpose, then Vettel couldn't cool the brakes and couldn't attack him. That race was Singapore 2010.

Alonso and Renault also said they were in conservation engine mode not because it was the second race for that engine, they found out before the race that one cylinder was not working and it was damaged but they didn't know how much. Then, they decided to take the risk and racing with this engine but with less power and not changing it and take the 10 grid positions penalty. In the KZread F1 channel there is a video about this battle with Alonso reactions and he remembers the story again. Cheers!!
