My dad passed away last week and his funeral was today. He loved the pipes although he never really got to learn them. He loved celtic history and culture. Hearing this as we loaded his coffin away was…tough. “Going Home” will always hold a dear place in my heart. I love you dad.

Played at my father's funeral. It was in a Catholic church, and the procession was about to begin, and the power went out right at that moment due to a storm. The bagpiper had to improvise, and began playing "Going Home." As a pallbearer, and as a son, it was haunting, and comforting all at the same time. I'll never forget it.

My uncle was the youngest sibling of my dad, and life's cruelties took him from us long before any of us were ready.. My dad played this song as he walked away from all of us, because he's the strongest man I've ever known. Rest well, Uncle.

This was played at my father’s funeral in northern Maine twenty-three years ago. When I heard it again I was back on that hillside as we put him into the ground. His grandfather, though American, was mostly Scottish in ancestry and my father was very close to him growing up. Dad spent much of his youth out on his grandparents farm and I assume he requested this be played at his burial to honor what was so dear to him.

My grandfather also made that trip home in 2020. He has a plaque that has our family's history because it meant a lot to my grandfather to always know and have that heritage to pass down. Our family was rich in Scotland, but familial infighting caused my ancestor to leave it all behind and he immigrated to the united states way back in the early days of the 19th century. There he married a local woman and took a job that was far beneath his station he was used to, but he was happier working for his american wife than he ever was in Scotland.

Lcpl Jonathan Richard Maestre USMC from the 1st Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion (2002-2006) passed Easter morning 2021, he is my big brother. The USMC hymn followed by this tune was played by the piper starting in the parlor and ending on the funeral home lawn. He used to sneak me Oreos in my crib then break me out so we could play. We shared a bedroom for 20 yrs and by the time our nuts dropped we drove each other crazy. He enlisted, then I enlisted. He was a combat Marine, I was a wing Marine. We spent the rest of our lives trying to get back together w the next trip or holiday or vacation. Being Marines together brought our brotherhood to another level that only a few proud know about. I will miss you big brother. Semper Fi

My ancestors came to Canada 4 generations ago. I was adopted. Still 75% Scot. All Celt. Met my grandfather when I was 27. Passed when he was 98. Honoured Vet. Being adopted wasn't invited to the funeral. Small town back roads and I mean BACK ROADS, the funeral yard was filled with my family mostly, I came with a JBL boombox and cranked this, with Old Lang Syne. Poured some Singleton Malt (family name) on his grave and took a shot with him while these songs played. Honored by the name and the life I've been given.

I'd never had thought i would find a song from a lullaby cassette i used to listen to as a child played on bagpipes. I'm certainly not disappointed that i did

Scotland the Brave piped for me Da's funeral. Had I known of Going Home? It would have played as well.( He spoke little of our roots.) But the Pipes? Oh yes. The PIPES; flow as the blood in our veins.....He WAS, the "old highland men" in the Anthem....I hear Pipes; and me Heart Leaps, my Soul overflows; I feel hame ag'n.....Thank You. For a Tribute Worthy of All.
