Driving in the highlands in Scotland, I told my then husband I could hear bagpipes. He said I was imagining it. Lo and behold, we rounded a corner, and there was a solid Scotsman, dressed in his kilt, against a backdrop of a snow topped mountain, with a little tartan stool beside him for donations, playing the bagpipes. I have a photo of me standing beside him. It was one of the highlights of my trip.

In the context of a funeral it absolutely will. I don’t cry, hardly ever but when I heard this in person while walking behind my last grandad’s (I have none now) hearse it hit me hard and unexpectedly. The tears just flooded out of my eyes despite trying to fight them back. The silence after was the most surreal thing ever too. Any time I hear it, it transports me back in time to the exact moment I was walking down that street and I see everything I saw then in my mind. I haven’t been to any funeral since, not out of disrespect but I just can’t go through it again. I make my own peace through never forgetting the people who die.

Shit the Scottish are coming

There is something about this song done on bagpipes that just hits you right in the soul.
My Dad passed away on October 27th at the age of 70 years old due to Lung Cancer that was at stage 4!! Played this song at the graveside service and we all cried but we were at peace knowing he's not struggling anymore!!
I had this haunting dream a while ago where my grandfather, great uncles, uncle, cousins, father and brothers were all singing amazing grace with bagpipes. Every eerie and wonderful experience.
I instantly get hit with emotion, like a truck hitting a brick wall, when i hear this. My dads friend played this song for us on his bagpipes after my dad passed away. I love you pops. RIP

With no words this song asks... No, It commands your respect. It commands you remember their sacrifice. Be it from a soldier serving in the line of duty, or from a simple person who did right by others. And it commands you move on, for you still have much to do in this world, people to help, friends to comfort, and lives to touch. You may still have time to honor this song with your passing as well.
