Well, I live in Brazil, but to know the Highlands is an old dream of mine... These wonderful songs are ideal to hear when drinking a single malt whisky...
30 years ago I was touring Scotland (and the UK) on my Harley that I shipped over . I was camped out in the Highlands and woke up one morning making coffee on my camp stove when out over the hills came floating the sound of bagpipes. I could tell they were a long way off but the sound was so hauntingly beautiful ! I had never really appreciated them until that moment. After I broke camp and rode off, I came upon a man out in the middle of nowhere in full regalia playing those pipes. That’s one of my most favorite memories of Scotland. Thank you for this video.

Growing up there was an old gentleman named Jim that lived right down the road from the house. One of my favorite things to do was to go fishing down at the creek not too far from his house. He had a spot in the back of his land by the creek where he would play the bagpipes. It didn't matter if I ever caught anything just getting to hear him play was enough. He was a rough old man that didn't care much for people and didn't like anyone on his property but him, his wife Jeane and their two German shepherd dogs Max and Bozo. Jeane was the sweetest woman in the world, she would talk your ears off if you would let her and she always greeted and saw you off with a hug. That must have been 35 years ago in time from today to those memories. Years later I settled down not to far from where I grew up and still go to the same creek now. Though sadly his property has long since grown over and there is not music of bagpipes that play except in my memory.

Anyway the Saxon/German and Scandinavian folks have inhabited and inter married with the Island folk many moons ago . Many years ago, while still serving in the US Army, I was fortunate to visit a British Army post on the coast of Wales. It was my honor to meet a Warrant Officer, a Scotsman of great character and honor. As my heritage has some Scots blood, I am most fond of the pipes that so melodiously sing the tales of Scotland. When you live in Scotland, born and bred, it’s easy to take its beauty for granted. Thank you for the reminder that my country is breathtakingly beautiful, and the music it inspires is just as stunning. I wish ye all the best for 2024.
I lived Bowels Hall my first semester at UC Berkeley (1989) My room was on the top floor facing the back. On weekends when I stayed in to study a man, in full regalia would play the bagpipes in the mist & fog that covered the hills behind the hall. I’m Hispanic and grew up in the Central Valley of California but have always loved this music. I didn’t want to break the magic but always yelled: You play well Highlander! So grateful for those moments. Thank you Highlander. You played well. When they bury me they will play 2 songs on the bagpipes. One happy, one sad.

If you do come over to Scotland, the west coast is by far the most beautiful, generally best in Aug & Sept. Aviemore & Fort William are 2 of my favorite when I go over the west coast, they are also good jumping point to see some of the areas shown in this video, Ben Nevis and the Ring of Steall (Mamores Mountains) Glen Finnan, Mallaig, Cullin Hills on Skye. The NC500 is a beautiful drive that we have done many times. Don't underestimate how much time you will need if you want to cram in as much of the west coast and the main cities (Edinburgh & Glasgow), we are a small country but it always surprises tourists the time it takes to get around it.

I was enjoying the pipes and scenery but when the drums came in so did my tears. Scottish ancestral music has always stirred me at a depth I have never really understood. All my fore folks are from the British,Scottish and Irish countries. Thank you for this amazing visual and aural compilation.
Moving the camera slowly on one scene at a time makes it more intimate, as memories should be
Very relaxing, taking you out of this evil world...with wars, conflicts, slavery, evil politicians, hard to swallow and to accept. Thank you for this video everyone is free now.., in a different world...
Missing my former croft in Scotland, happy memories of love for a wonderful, beautiful country.
I have loved bagpipe music since I was a young’un. Mom came from Scot-Irish-English heritage. But I was the only one in her extended family who was drawn to the bagpipes. Then again, Mom and I were the only ones who really loved dance and music. ‘Guess we inherited the “good” genes. Ha ha …. THANKS SO MUCH FOR THIS VIDEO

These songs have made me dance and weep.. My tribal Celtic spirit is crazed with fiery passion and love.. Thank you. One day i will go to my ancestral homelands and reconnect to the wisdom and history forgotten in my family tree, until then. BRAVE HEARTS!! Sarah Henry, Campbell Clan. NZ.

I've always loved the Bagpipes...to me they're so Spiritually transcendent & so hypnotic...they would be the most beautiful piece of instrument ever made. 🥰❤️
Of all places I first heard a bagpipe being played was in Arizona. Was a foggy spring morning and I was out having a smoke in the backyard when I heard the most amazing sounds come drifting out of the fog. Must have stood there some twenty minutes listening before whoever it was wandered off. To this day I tip my hat (as it were) to that odd piper and give thanks when I hear such sounds. A grand day to all here.

Wow - a foggy morning in AZ!!! All it takes is a bit of fog to stir the Scottish soul, where it finds itself.

Enchanting Scotland.....love from Italy
As a Scottish-American I have been drawn to the pipes since I've been a wee lad, I marched in an American para-military pipe band "The First Highland Watch", we were adopted by the Argyll & Sutherland of Canada... We marched through the Princess gates into the park & then into the CNE stadium with thousands of pipes & drums playing "Scotland the Brave" in perfect unison... Best Day of My Life🏴🇺🇸
Gorgeous scenery and music, thank you so much, Scottish people!. Bagpipes have always called to my soul ️.
After my own country, Scotland 🏴💙 is my favourite country in the World. Scottish people, landscapes and culture are wonderful.
My gran was from the Outer Hebrides. She passed down the love of the music and pastoral scenery to us. This video is grand. Thank you.

What doe Swedish ancestors have to do with Bagpipe music ?
Absolutely beautiful. This invoked emotions I didn’t know I had about the bagpipes. As an Irish Catholic that grew up in Chicago, I had the delight of growing up being exposed to the bagpipes during parades and such. Such a treat!

This music reminds me of visiting Scottish relatives in 1976. My mother's father was born in Glasgow. Folks there have got quite an accent. The only word I inherited was "Oiy" which I use whenever a woodpecker pecks at the siding on our house. Works every time.

No. I do mean "oy" or "oi" as in "oil". It is a sharp, short exclamation of annoyance meant to stop someone from continuing to do something you don't want them to do (like hitting your brother or something).

the pipes when played well and in tune are incredible and stir things deep inside you, when played badly or out of tune are like two cats fighting in a bag.
Sights and sounds from my ancestors always seem to call to me.
