    2021 was such a great season for design and build quality (for many boards).

    Great stuff! Right on point (imo). I went with the 155cm Gremlin and ground a crosshatch structure into the base; which helps immensely with speed as long as it's maintained with proper wax and technique. Love the Orca in Pow only conditions but choose the Gremlin if going back and forth between sidecountry pow and in resort mess. I've ridden, raced, terrain parked a gazillion decks from almost every manufacturer, some costing triple the Gremlin, over 3 decades. I cannot remember a more fun board to rip into a nasty, deep, 'nad dragging, toeside carve then pop off a side hit into the trees. This little ripper will send you into the prettiest reverts too! Not a quiver killer, one does it all...but definitely the most ridden board in my quiver of almost a dozen, late model boards!

    @@thegoodridesnow I'm currently on a 158w Flight Attendant (for the resort days) and have a 160w Hometown Hero (for the off piste and freeride days). Love both boards a lot but the edgehold here in quite often hard to icy conditions is, as mentioned by you guys a lot, not quite there (at all). Thought about getting the Gremlin for those hardpack slope days. I'm 6'3" 165pounds, size 12 Burton Photons. Was thinking about the 158 Gremlin to give me the extra bit of edge underfoot to prevent that nasty toedrag. 27cm waist width for carving are definitely intriguing I must admit. Would that be the board to go to? Would appreciate your opinion on that. Thanks again for this one and a bunch of other reviews, they've really helped me a lot!!!

    @@t.blaschke7461 That would be a great board for hard snow. I think your boot size is best with the 158 for a super wide hard carver but the 155 would be really good with your weight and probably be ok with toe/heel drag. Your call but I like your logic behind the 158.

    @@thegoodridesnow thank you very much for your quick reply! I've always had the bootsize-weight- dilemma...That's why I switched from a 161 to a 158 FA, as I was too light for the stiffness of the 161. Would you rather go according to weight in the Gremlin as the 155 isn't narrow either? Is the Gremlin as stiff as the FA or softer to push the camber? I'd like to go with the 158 but if I end up like with the FA, too light to get proper edge grip out of the camber, it wouldn't make too much sense to have the extra width but not the weight/power to get it to dig in. Really appreciate your expertise and how you try your best to take everything into consideration, especially when comparing similar boards. That intell is priceless especially for people like me who don't have the opportunity to try before they buy.... again: thanks!!

    @@t.blaschke7461 Thanks man! So I'm a size 9 but 185lbs-190lbs so I'm often choosing better control for my size 9 boot size over a wider board that matches my weight better. For you, its the opposite. I think the 158 is the better call to be drag free but it will be a lot of board to handle. I'd say if you aren't booting out on the 159w FA then go 155 as it's a little wider. It won't ride exactly like I described in the review (will turn a lot faster with 12's) but you will be soo much happier on that vs. the FA in hard snow and it won't ride you like the 158 might.

    Yeah that could work but the Gremlin isn't the best in powder for boards of this design. You might like the Orca 150 and possibly the 147 but it's a lot more narrow. Maybe the Powgoda 152, Mind Expander 150 or Never Summer Swift 152 or Korua Transition Finder 150 or Excavator 150.

    Hi Mr Beastie, thanks for such an indepth review. Great to jnderstand how the gremlin stacks up against other well known, iconic boards. I'm interested but not sure about size? I am about 180lbs and 5'10". Thinking the 152 might be fun but concerned I would boot out my size 10 feet when carving. Could I get away with it or should I size up to the 155?

  • @thegoodridesnow

    @thegoodridesnow

    Жыл бұрын

    Many thanks! You won't boot out with the 152 but I think you might like the 155 a little better if you want this for carving and for better float in pow. I would only go 152 if you see a lot of messy tracked up crowded days where you want an easier board to control. I am 5'10", 185-190lbs and I preferred the 152 because my size 9 boots could turn it easier. The 155 felt a bit much for me unless conditions were clean. With size 10's you should do a lot better with the 155 in messy snow.

    Flex is similar but you get more camber so maybe. You do get a slower base though. The Orca could work too but it's a very different ride than the Gremlin and Dancehaul's you own. It will feel loose between the feet and auto spinny one footing/flat basing but it will be more stiff.

    @thegoodridesnow Advanced New England/Ice Coast rider, 5’10”, 205 lbs, 11.5 boot. Daily driver is a Gnu RCC3 158w. Typical riding is 75% charging hard on black/blue, 25% goofing around on blue/green side hits and rollers. Love Mervin tech for the type of conditions I typically see. Looking hard at getting a Gremlin to make a two-board quiver. From what I have read, the Gremlin will do well in powder conditions and spring slop and just general fun boosting off of stuff. Volume shifted with magnatraction looks like it would have no problems railing high speed turns on hardpack as well. I am torn on sizing: 152 or 155 cm? Boots should fit either, not sure how much high-speed stability/carving prowess I would be trading for agility/playfulness going to the smaller board. Hoping to pick the size that won’t make me want to head to the parking lot to swap out with the RCC3 in the afternoon when the good snow is busted because the Gremlin is too squirrely.

    If you got this for hard to icy snow it might be worth sizing up to the 155 would help and you could easily ride it with your specs (especially your 12 boots) because there aren't many boards that ride and grip like this. If you got this for riding all conditions you might be better off with a different board with more damp construction.

    You mean the T.Rice Pro Pointy Twin? Both aren't that great in pow. The Pointy is very good for a twin but not compared to boards like the Orca. Speaking of the Orca would be a better call for pow vs. the Gremlin and T.Rice Pro Twins.
