    This is such an amazing board. I tried a bunch before I rode the goldmember(older version)...couldn't find a goldmember so bought this which libtech said was the closest to the goldmember...I love it...never using my old board again. I got the 157 . I am 6ft. I have tried it in most conditions so far except deep powder and it is so stable and easy to ride

    Hey, I am 6‘3 and 200lbs with a size 11 boot. Wondering if I could get away with a 153 for a very playful ride or if that would be pushing it too much and the 157 would be better? And thanks for all the work you’re putting in, really invaluable with so many boards to choose from! Cheers from Germany!

  • @jfanoe

    I spent four days riding this in Montana, mostly in knee deep or deeper powder, along with some soft groomers. I'm 205lbs with a size 11 and rode the 153. Compared to the standard orca, this didn't float as well, but I liked having the extra tail for landings. It was a trade I'm not sure most people are going to want to make. I totally agree about the carving limitations that Avran called out. It's super nimble and stable in steep terrain, but I can't say it has a real place in my quiver. As an all mountain board, I think it falls a little short of other boards in the category, especially if you're more accustomed to camber. As a powder only board, I think I prefer the standard Orca between the two, at least for low/medium angle. It did its job in light Montana powder, but I'm not so sure about how well it would fare in Tahoe. For me, I think it will be something I take out a few times a year, as it feels like it is best suited for fairly specific conditions, soft and steep. Considering where Travis Rice rides, the board makes a lot of sense. I just don't see myself often needing a board that's really a Baldface/AK charger.

  • @energ8t

    @energ8t

    Жыл бұрын

    Personally, I would have gotten a 157 at that weight. This board isn’t volume shifted like the normal Orca. Rice is 190lb and rides this board in a 157 and 161. He states that on the Lib Tech product page video.

  • @jfanoe

    @jfanoe

    Жыл бұрын

    @@energ8t I agree. I was going on a trip and my emotions got the better of me. The shop only had 153s, so I got that thinking it would be fine. In retrospect, I should've stuck with another of my decks and saved the money. Even at 57 or 61, I think I'd rather ride the standard Orca in pow.

    For all mountain board what would you recommend ? With some ice tech , ok to pop on natural and flex for small play butter and ofcourse cruize , carve and pow ? ( if you put aside parks basically)

  • @hapellon9604
    @hapellon9604 Жыл бұрын

    Hello there ! Is it forgiving at all ? I snowboard for 20+ years but im no expert… I m looking for a intermediate/advanced lvl board , easy to cruize at slow speed while waiting for beginners friends and just playing a bit on natural terrain pops and butters/flat …. but also sometime bomb and carve when alone or just go on pow backcountry once in a while or look for pow on the side/trees … i dont not care much about parks. …the main aime would enjoy ride / mostly groom resorts / a bit of backcountry and pratice carving and powder… i also need some « ice tech » in there cause east coast as much ice and its tiring … so i noted the golden orca / the arbor crosscut / this one / the harpoon ? Some sais gnu antigravity … im not sure if im missing the « one « board i need in this list cause there are so many …. Thanks

    I'm 6'1 with a size 11.5 boot, 180lbs -- my current board is a jones explorer 161W and I love the width-feel of it -- for this board since it's volume-shifted, should I downsize to a 157 or go with the 161? I do love a good carve so I'm eyeing the wider waist on the 161, but I know the recommendation is to downsize 1-3cm. Thanks your channel is the best!

    I have this board in a 157. It’s a little too big for me. It floats okay but you have to work. It rides switch in the powder very well though. This board shines when doing big drops, the extra tail makes you feel very secure. Not the best board in the trees for me, felt a little sluggish but that’s mostly because it’s on the large size for me. I think this board is great for doing jumps in the back country or even the resort on an icy day. The regular orca is likely a better choice for most people

    For the same rider these end up being bigger than a normal orca, and maybe aren't as maneuverable with a bunch of retraction skidding, because you need to wait for that symmetrical tail to come around. For me it carves better, is somewhat less maneuverable in tight places, and of course is night and day for switch. Trying to ride switch on a normal orca is definitely an acquired taste.

    I don't think he will be reviewing it. He reviewed the 2019 model I believe. He said it was alot of board and you always need to bring your A game. For advanced riders who are looking for something extra. I would have to agree. I own the 2021-2022 model 161 I'm 5'10" 185 size 10 boots. I'm satisfied with it but it's definitely a board I should have gotten 10 years ago. Most of my riding is done with my kids I will be getting an other board something very mellow. It's wonderful when I'm out with the boys and I want to go hard but not so much when I want to cruise around with the kidos the thing wants to go Mach 10 and stomp 80' table tops

The party wave plus sidewall separated from the metal edge, then the core got wet, and expanded, this is right under the heel side of my back binding, I like high speed carving, that could’ve cracked the glue I guess.

    @Angry Snowboarder I guess perhaps I'll tell ya more what I'm looking for in a board and perhaps with your awareness of so many boards you might help point me in the right direction. I've been riding for quite a long time but never really got into the know-how of all the tech to really understand what I want out of my riding experience. The quiver I'm building right now (sold both and looking to buy 3 new) 1. Split hovercraft for diverse splitting 2. Bataleon surf for straight powder dump ripping 3. Was thinking the golden orca for my daily driver that's mainly oriented for powder/freestyle so if its not ideal powder days it can still rip around the resort and hit some kickers or play in what powder is there. My main riding style is I love powder ripping first and foremost. I don't need to go super big off insane cliff drops or crazy backcountry freestyle for the most part but donlike to get a little sendy and tricky with it too and possibly progressinto bigger hits or just keep it chill. But if I can't rip the powder or it's all tracked out to be able to handle the chunder and hit a couple kickers for fun but I'm not as much a park junky anymore but I still love some good kickers and would still enjoy a backcountry kicker to practice all the flips into powder.

    @@nathanAmendez I’m also b/w sizes- wish there was a 159. 6’1” 187lbs in gear, size 11, expert+. Usually ride 160/161cm directional twins. Leaning towards the 161 G.O. as the 157 just looks/feels small standing on it. Only taking an occasional park lap, mainly getting it for resort pow days (SV, Kirkwood). If I’m not in pow I’m railing turns b/w side hits. Do you feel much of a difference b/w 157 and 161 given same sidecut, 2mm wider, a couple more cm effective edge?
