    Days at Mount Bachelor where the snow is blower enough to get the white room effect are the best! Love this resort, great tree riding and on days where there’s no new snow they generally do a great job preparing their groomed trails

    Thank you for the great reviews. I’m a progressing intermediate in Lake Tahoe area, 5’7”, 160 lb, size 8.5 boot, current board is Yes Basic 152 which is my first board. I don’t do park. I want something to continue improving carving and that does well on ungroomed trails. Would you recommend Dancehaul 147 or 152? Other boards I’m looking at based on your reviews are Ride Shadowban and Yes Standard. How does Dancehaul compare to these two?

  • @thegoodridesnow

    The Dancehaul a very different board. You are in between sizes. The 152 basic was pretty small for you and you would have liked a 155 better. So if you feel more comfortable with the 152 go 147 but if you want something better go 152. 154 Shadowban could work too. More directional and stiff compared to the Basic. Standard 153 might work too but softer like the Basic and you need full size discs to utilize the set back. If you want to get into it more hit me here to give me the info I need to help you much better. shop.thegoodride.com/merchandise/gear-advice/

    I didn't ride the 2021 Ultimate ride. I only rode the 2017 version before it was tapered so hard to say with 100% certainty. They seem like very different rides though. Dancehaul is more directional, tapered, shorter and wider. What you have seems like it is a combo of the Directional Twin Ultimate Ride 2017 I tried and the Tapered Twin Sick Stick I rode as well. The Dancehaul is unique to Salomon's line. Might be worth a go.

  • @thegoodridesnow

    Both do similar things but both do it in a very different way. The Ravine you ride a little longer and the Dancehaul you ride shorter. Both aren't that stiff or damp but I would say the Dancehaul is a little stiffer/damper overall. Dancehaul is a little more turny and the Ravine is a little more balanced. It all comes down to what fits your specs and riding personality better.

    Early intermediate, 2nd season. 185 lbs size 10. Fairly fit/athletic for age. Rode a 155cm Yes Basic last year but it seems a little floppy in the sierra cement around tahoe. I want to go directional all mountain leaning toward freeride. I don’t want to be required to be on my A game at all times. Would also like to slow speed slash when with the family.

  • @thegoodridesnow

    162 Stratos might work but it can get chattery in uneven snow. It's stiffer than your basic (pretty soft by the way) but it isn't damp. So when conditions change it bucks and bounces you around at 185lbs. The Dance Haul 152 will be better in all conditions and could be a good daily driver. It's a little on the technical side but could work. Hard to say until we ride it. If they remove the dampening and stiffen it up like many Pro models in Salomon's line it will be great in good conditions but super cranky the minute the snow gets a little uneven. If that is the case, We'd recommend the regular Dancehaul over the Dancehaul Pro 9 times out of 10. But again, won't know till we ride it.

  • @thegoodridesnow

    @thegoodridesnow

    It's a tough call. Both will have better float than the Warpig. If you like that stable feel of the warpig underfoot go Dancehaul. If you are ok with a loose feel underfoot that feels kind of auto spinny but has exceptional edge hold go Orca. I think the Orca will have a slight edge in float as well. If I was going to Japan that long (a bit jealous btw) I would take neither. I would want something with more float to handle all that Japan can offer like a Gentemstick Barracuda or a Spring Break Powder Pill or Weston Japow or Korua Dart and many others. Go to the site and click "Excellent" in the Powder filter thegoodride.com/snowboard-reviews/?mens=1 . They float better than the boards above. If you want something more versatile to keep riding when you come back either could work. It really comes down to what calls to you more as both are a great call. Dancehaul is more stable and has a faster base. Orca has a slower base but more setback on board and a little better float.

    You are kind of in-between sizes. The 152 will feel a bit small and soft for your 200lbs but I think that is the better choice for treating the mtn like a skate park. If you wanted to haul ass, carve super hard and use this for deeper pow I'd say go 157. Wish they had something in between like a 154 or 155.

    It will be wider/harder to turn and have more camber consequence than both boards you ride now. Based on how you mentioned you ride, your boot size and binding it should work. You can take out the Harpoon when you are feeling more mellow.

    It will be close at the 147 toe/heel drag wise depending on your boots footprint. Your height is best for a 147, your boot size a 152 and your weight is better with the 152. If you aren't laying out super hard carves and want something super easy to turn/throw around go 147.

I know the size has something to do with it but I also feel the torsional rigidity and overall flex have a bigger impact than the size. My Assassin had the same effective edge but felt way more nimble with a similar sidecut. Are you perhaps reviewing the Yes Warca anytime soon? Party platter will be damper. Dancehaul will be softer and poppier. For party platter 2023 they have a 152 and 157 sizes and I would say the 152 is probably the better call. It will handle your weight really well. For the dancehaul, 157 will better fit your weight but the 152 will better fit your boots and your height. It might not be able to handle your 230lb weight though because its pretty soft. Based on your take on the 158 skeleton key it might be worth downsizing on both.

    Man, back in the day (1988-2000) all there was was cambered boards. You'd go to a shop, pick an appropriate length & give it a flex and if you dug the graphics you'd take it and that's what you rode all year in any conditions. Now everything is over thinking & over analyzing - it reminds me of the guitar industry. 90% of snowboarders wouldn't know their own board if they did a blind test ride amongst 5-7 other boards. It also reminds me when they do those wine tastings where they have 6 different glasses of wine on a table & invite people to take a swig of each one & each person gives their detailed analysis and then picks their favorite. Then the guy says "What if I told you these all came out of the same bottle?" These reviews are an awesome resource & I love the channel but the industry & their marketing has made everything convoluted. They act like if they removed one atom of the wood core or change the the amount of camber by .5mm that it's going to make some huge difference.
