I just watched the 1984 version of 1984 and was blown away. It is such a terrifying and dark movie and does an incredible job of replicating the filth and terror from the novel.

The 1956 version tried too hard to look futuristic, only for that to backfire when real life surpassed '50s chrome. The 1984 version, in all its uncompromising bleakness, looks convincing to this very day---and honestly better than a modern remake would. If they ever make another adaptation, I highly doubt it will top Michael Radford's masterpiece.

Since the copyright of _"1984"_ has expired 70 years after Orwell's death, they could easily make a detailed tv-series like _"A handmaid's tale"_ .

correct me if I'm wrong...wasn't there another black and white original/remake of this 1984? yes, in 1954 and it starred Peter Cushing, Mr. 'Where is the rebel base,' himself - 1954 beats 1956 Winston all the way. And isn't it curiously odd that the actor in the 1984 release, John Hurt is next to a logo for the movie and it is a 'V' shape with '1984' and he also stars in the movie 'V for Vendetta' as supreme chancellor?

I appreciate your interest in my side-by-side series. I won't be able to upload them daily, the film industry shutting down amid the Covid crisis has given me more time to work on these videos but they take quite a long time to edit and they are not the only thing on my plate. Most of the movies on your list will probably get a side-by-side video at some point. I've started the Animal Farm video but am not sure when it will be finished, other videos have taken priority over it. I did a side-by-side for the Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, and Pet Sematary trailers and don't plan on doing a full side-by-sides any time soon. The full IT side-by-side will happen eventually but it’s not particularly appealing to me at the moment. Cinderella is going to happen but I’m still trying to decide how many version of the story to include. 101 Dalmatians will likely happen eventually. Peter Pan will defiantly happen, whether I wait for David Lowery’s adaptation to come out first or not has yet to be decided. The Wolfman, The Fly, and The Mummy were all on my initial list but I don’t recall any being very one to one in terms of plot to be comparable in this format. I’ve felt that way before about movies and gone back and done them anyway, so we’ll see. Cape Fear is happening, I have started the video but I’m not sure when I’ll finish it. The BFG is happening, it’s a side-by-side I work on a little bit every few months. The Blob will probably happen, I need to review the movies again to see how 1 to 1 they are. Many more side-by-sides you didn’t list are on their way in the months to come.

same, the acting was more human, more normal. in the 84 film everyone is too droopy and depressed (though more accurate to the book i guess) but takes back from the entertainment value because of this. the 56 film the lead actor is far more charismatic then john hurt in my opinion especially when he falls in love with Julia and is convinced he will bring down the party with the help of the resistance. he comes on like the type of man that could do this while john hurt never really seemed to convinced me of his passion and willingness to stand up to the party. Winston's relationship in the 56 film seems more genuine with Julia too. the 56 film looks aesthetically more like Britain while the 84 film could of been a depiction of soviet Russia in the 40s and 50s for all i know, it did not "feel" like the uk at all. too much soviet style brutalist buildings and art work around. the reality would be that many citizens of airstrip one would still be living in the old world brick houses that line the uk today judging by the state of the economy in the world of 1984 and the fact the regime has been around for only about 30 years at this point. i doubt ingsoc would remove housing that could be used to house citizens. they might be an evil all controlling government but i doubt they are that stupid as to need to make new houses where there is already perfect accommodations to utilize. O'Brien in the 56 film seems more energetic and convinced that his evil is good and righteous, while in the 84 film O'Brien talks to Winston and treats his job more like a job, O'Brien is more monotone, dull, boring in his approach. almost like he does not want to be there. O'Brien has no passion about what he is doing in the 84 film while in the 56 film O'Brien truly loves his job and believes 100% in the party's view of the world and his task in convincing Winston so.

@@accountreality1988the party does not believe in its own teachings, it uses them to make the population more easily controlled. Everyone knows something is wrong but they are constantly pulled every which way mentally. They are afraid for their loved ones, they are hungry and lacking basic necessities, they know something isn't right but they've never known anything different, and it's easier to go along than to be re-educated. They don't know anything outside of the sectors they live in and what the TV feeds to them, and are allowed cigarettes and alcohol which makes them somewhat complacent, alcohol is just grain anyways why not turn it into something that makes the populace calm down a little after work so they don't have too much time to think about their situations and the world at large.
