George Galloway | Cambridge Union

George Galloway is a British politician, broadcaster and writer.

I wish we had a man like George Galloway in the Netherlands it's all so spineless, Neo-Liberal, mealy mouthed and often full of bs (look up information about our Prime Minister on the Dividence Taxes). I hope that I could see these type of politics as George suggests. I think his ideas on horizontal democracy are fascinating and awesome.

Universities used to be places where open mindedness and diversity of opinion were not only tolerated but welcomed as it gave people a chance to debate. No longer it seems. Even the most educated of the young generation no longer seem to understand what respecting other people's point of view means

It's fairly rare to see people who definitely use that word to be pompous, in this case at least it's likely to have been used as a plug or support word to fill the gaps where the interviewer wasn't sure what his next words would be (these unnecessary words give your mind more time to catch up with your mouth... happens to a lot of us, but we should think of more polite support words instead).

Some things don't change. Universities are packed with young people who passions clearly outstrip their reasoning and breadth of vision. This was true to an extreme degree with that light haired chap with soda bottle glasses whose outlook on the world was so horribly crimped while his passion was barely capable of being reined in. He was even incapable of realising he was there to ask questions, not advertise his questionable behaviour. Not sure a 'premier' institution was served well by that poster boy! Humility should be the first lesson in any University. I think the George offered him the only response he deserved...silence.

But will end with the following brief. Then and now it is George Galloway who appears will save the world out of discriminations, tyranny and confusions and pave the way for a just and sensible world of humanity and happiness. Whilst I dislike many of the things Mr Galloway says and disagree with him on almost everything, I do find him compelling as an interviewee, or debater. He represents a strand of opinion in the U.K. that needs to be heard and challenged and he represents it better than anyone else. Challenging him is like nailing a blancmange to a wall and is really only something for a skilled debater (with sufficient time to unpack Mr Galloway’s rhetoric). But British public life (and KZread) would be poorer without him.

Iran was on the path of being beacon of democracy and secularism in the muslim world in the early 1950's . However the US and UK overthrew their democracy for oil . The US/UK installed the King , that is the Shah . This monarchy enriched themselves , the US/UK oil companies . To pay for the paltry public sector, Muslim cleric, assets and lands were expropriated . It is no surprise that the Militant Muslim faction took over in 1979 . Will we ever learn from our mistakes ? I think our masters know too well about democracies giving less wealth to the US empire and thus deliberately overthrow democracies for the sake of the US corporate empire . Post World war ll the US has never gone to war for democracy . They have always been overthrowing democracies to keep the poor poorer and rich wealthier . Latin America is a goodf example of US empire post ww2 . Remember that the root Greek demos in democracy means the people , not just the privileged, powerful few

The fish rots from the head, considering that majority of the questions that were asked in the session by the audience were projections of UK’s dark under belly, it’s astounding that they never considered to ask about issues that directly impacted their own lives. What happens in Iran, Iraq, Israel etc has little or no impact on what a normal British citizen’s daily life is like and neither is it their responsibility nor can they change its course. They should strive to improve their own citizens’ well being and leave the rest to those that it directly impacts.

He surely makes you think. I agree with many of his points but also disagree with some of his stances, particularly on Iran. 1. The Wests relationship with Saudia Arabia despite them being terrible to women does not mean women in Iran have it good in comparison. Both nations have huge issues with women, but it is also important to remember influencing allies over time is a valid strategy for the rights movement. 2. Iran has ethnic minorities such as the Kurds who if you asked would probably say they feel occupied. i.e. Kurdish Independence movement. 3. Maybe Iran hasn't officially invaded anyone, but it has developed a brilliant network of proxies throughout the middleeast to sow discord. All in all, it's good to think deeper about issues, particularly the Iran one, I just don't feel he made strong or contextual arguments in that regard. I appreciate that he is a principled person and I do wish all leaders would take principled stances such as George Galloway. His point about Palestine, apartheid, and parliament (whipping, amount of MPs, pay, and power) are spot on.

Really need to fix the production here. Shiny light on a junky vinyl chair with no seat cushion, strange disinterested young lady in a bright yellow vest, poor camera angle. Cambridge get your act together.

I am a huge fan of George Galloway, but with hindsight Corbyn did turn out to be unelectable, and Boris wiped the floor with him.

The freaking 1st question of a guy that goes on even tho' he was told to ask the question and he ignores and goes on and on more. The whole time he should be thanking his lucky stars someone developed eyeglasses, as he seems quite in need of his coke bottle lenses.(not a slight of him, but he seemed hellbent on smear and not very serious, and often folks like him have little appreciation for the good they have gained by no effort of their own).

When the worst market crash and depression comes the internet will go down, and wars will break out as is the case sooner or later during a great depression . Would anyone like to join me in training and investing in carrier/homing pigeons ? To prevent a great depression we should nationalize NOW major banks and vital manufacturing and services, throw many financiers in jail , to avoid a great depression .

What a load of pompous , long winded , narcissistic, immature, cliche ridden, rude , little twerps. A couple of years in a proper job would open their eyes, and maybe, teach them some manners.

What is it with Cambridge Uni? The students are embarrassingly ill informed, laughably naive and immature. They looked and sounded like a wall of estrogen with barely a woman in the room.
