George Galloway on The Hour with George Stroumboulopoulos

www.cbc.ca/thehour
A former factory worker, George Galloway was elected as a member of the Labour Party in 1987. It didn't take long before he was causing a stir. A vocal opponent of the '91 Gulf War and the economic sanctions against Iraq, critics said he was too cozy with Saddam Hussein. In 2003, he spoke out against the war in Iraq and blasted George Bush and Tony Blair for invading. The fact he went public with his criticism didn't go over well with Blair's Labour Party. Galloway was kicked out and ended up starting his own party, called 'RESPECT.' Most recently, he's taken heat over the Middle East. He's a critic of Israel and a supporter of the Palestinian cause. Earlier this month, he went to Gaza - he says to give donations to Palestinians, others say he was offering financial support to Hamas.

It may not be easy, but throughout history empires didn't last, remember the Roman empire?, French empire?,British empire, German empire, and now US/Israel empire no matter how strong an empire is eventually it will collapse. I don't think the current empire is any different.

Since you keep referring to UN resolution 181, then comply with it and give back the land that is clearly defined in that resolution for the Palestinians and while your at it comply with UN 242, 338 and the other hundred plus resolutions listed clearly on the UN website condeming Israels Illigal Occupations of Palestine, Lebanon and Syria. The FACTS ARE CLEAR. You are not complying with international law.

sussansontag You wanted facts. The facts are Israel has more UN resolutions against it than any other country in the world, I am merely referred to a couple of the more than 100 UN Resolutions against it. If you want to COMPLY with International law then comply with all of the UN resolutions. Accusing Israel of ILLEGALLY OCCUPYING other peoples land. Accusing the UN and me of being radicalls does not excuse you from complying with the law, the UN is demanding you give back what you stole.

platonicmojo This dialog is not going anywhere,If anyone can make heads or tails about what platonicmojo is saying please chime in. There are between 4 - 5 million Palestinian living in refugee camps. They are there because of the Zonists ethnically cleansed them, Galloway believes this is wrong and something should be done about it, I'm sorry you don't see it that way, maybe if you visited these refugee camps like I & Galloway did you would see the horrible conditions they live under.

this whole notion of the war being religiously fueled is really a fantastic front for destabilizing the whole region. Do you know how much wealth is in that region of the world? And yet, the countries are constantly fighting amongst themselves. Once the countries (this includes Isreal AND Palestine) decide to stop being ignorant, so as to quench their stupid need to fight the war based upon religion, the whole area would be better off: happier, safer, and wayyy more tolerant. PEACE TO ALL!! :)

  • @zabuma

wow dude, where'd all that hate come from? Islam is really supposed to be a very peaceful religion that preaches tolerance. Also, there are hundreds of millions of Christian people that live in "third world" countries. What about those perfectly nice people? The term "third world" is such a terrible term in the fact that is has such a negative connotation. In reality, many people who live in those "third world" countries are actually some of the happiest people in the world.

platonicmojo, would you like to tell the 5 million+ palestinians living in refugee camps because they were ethnically cleansed that they shouldn't complain you would consider it mudslinging and missing the point. What's the point. The Fact is Palestine was wiped off the map and the Palestinians were ethnically cleansed. Slavery ended, South Africa aparthaid ended and this Brutal Occupation In Palestine must end, no justice no peace.

sussansontag Accusing me of not understanding UN resolutions and accusing me and the UN of being radicalls for asking you to comply with these resolution is laughable and does not excuse you from complying with these UN resolutions. Lets just take one resolution to make things simple. You aknowledge that UN resolution 242 calls for the withdrawal of Israel to the 1967 border. Great then comply with it, it's been almost 42 years, what part of withdraw don't you understand?

And yet the Jews at the time of Jesus decided to persecute and crucify a man who simply preached "turn the other cheek" instead of choosing to crucify Barrabus, the thief, and for 3 centuries after him, persecuted his followers until his followers gained ascendancy through the conversion of the Roman emperor. If people followed Islam, Judaism, Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism etc as the founders of those religions practised it, there would be peace. Do not ascribe the evil of men to religion

A quick history lesson, Palestine for centuries stood as a secular non-religious state, Christians, Muslims and Jews were all Palestinians, Itzak Rabin born in 1922 was a Palestinian. There was no Israel at that time.He may have been Jewish in faith but Palestinian by country. It's ludicrous to believe that Palestine did not fit the definition of a country and if it was not considered a country then by default Jews from around the world can displace Palestinians and claim it as theirs.

What are you on about? The Qur'an is not a political ideology? Have you ever READ the Qur'an? The Qur'an clearly states in it's first chapter its own purpose: It is a book which guides "to the path of those upon God has bestowed his blessings". (chapter 1). The amount of space the Qur'an affords to setting out political and economic principles pales in comparison to its teachings regarding moral and spiritual reformation. try READING it.

I just wanna bring something to peoples attention... Im not the most knowledgeable person when it comes to this stuff but there 1 thing that stands out that doesnt make sense. If Israel was made for jews to live because of holy traditions... and the Christians of the world believe the bible is accurate... and Jesus was born in bethleham... wouldn't that mean that the Christian are fighting 4 the wrong cause?! Keeping Holy Land Holy... Isn't Palestine holy?! Isn't that where Jesus was born?!

  • @senyah5

Your knowledge of the region is pretty shallow, Palestine for centuries was a secular non-religious state, Muslims, Christians and Jews lived as equal citizens, Itzhak rabin who was born in 1922 was a palestinian, he may have been Jewish by faith, but Palestinian by country. the current crises is a result of Jewish racist extremist Zionist, who believe they are God's chosen people and as such they are entitled to ethnically cleanse people off the land and claim it as theirs. Zionism is Racism

sussansontag The Palestinians and the rest of the world accepts Israels right to exist within its border, but they will never accept Israels right to exist in Palestine, Lebanon, Syria. or any other country, I accept my neighbors right to exist in his house but not in my house. You can exist in your territory just leave everyone elses territory alone, Your blaming Galloway and Iran for stealing other peoples property, and you don't see anything wrong with it.

sussansontag Your falsely accusing me of proposing an Isamic State, I never said that you can re-read all of my comments they are still on this thread. Having said that you on the other hand are defending a JEWISH STATE which can only be defined as a Racist State. If you can't overcome your Racism and co-exist with the rest of the world fine, then comply with UN Resolution 181 that you mentioned earlier, give back the land and property you stole from tehe Plaestinians, Syrians ans Lebanon.
