John Cooper Clarke | The Cambridge Union
John Cooper Clarke is an English performance poet who first became famous during the punk rock era of the late 1970s when he became known as a "punk poet". He released several albums in the late 1970s and early 1980s, and continues to perform regularly. He has performed on the same bill as bands such as the Sex Pistols, Joy Division, Elvis Costello and New Order. Clarke was the subject of a BBC Four documentary, 'Evidently... John Cooper Clarke', in May 2012.
He appeared as himself in the 2012 film Ill Manors, directed by the rapper Plan B. In July 2013, Clarke was awarded an honorary doctorate of arts by the University of Salford. He has appeared on the BBC shows 'Have I Got News for you' and 'Never Mind the Buzzcocks'.

How can such an educated and presumably bright bunch have such an obtuse demeanour? I mean JCC had to laugh at his own quips amidst the deafening silence, and he was really funny. They all looked bloody bewildered.

John Cooper Clarke | The Cambridge Union 1343pm 21.4.23 they must have canned laughter added, then. or spliced interactive audience participation as they seemed to warm to him.. i want to see a cinematic biopic of him. the wheeler dealer the junkie con man. the wanting his last fix. and then his other last fix. etc etc etc... he's good but reminds me of some dude in the pub. he's another level unto himself. indeed, the kids waffling on about havin' the pish taken out of themselves for doin' the poetic thing... it's the feminine aspect of JCC's demeanour. as was the obsession of his to wear decent clobber and look the part. aye; a ken russell and john cooper clark cinematic biopic would have been amazing. i also feel JCC has the Jarry vibe about him..
He's the greatest lab technician ever to come out of Salford Tech.

I believe he was also a trainee printer and an apprentice mechanic. So a man of almost many skills.
John Cooper Clarke. One of my Heroes! The only man who makes disrupting proceedings to go for a piss; look cool. Brilliant.

JCC has reached the exalted ranks of "Great English eccentric" and that is high praise indeed.

There is a tyranny of questions effect isn't there. Never let the flow interfere with the list of questions. Works out well despite this thanks to JCC.
Marvellous, thank you for posting.
Lavatory Break! Perfect. JCC Is SO cool, inspiring, funny and very intelligent. Love this so much.
I saw him in Galway circa 2007--utter class, great warmth, and of course the poems were terrific. I cherish my signed copy of 'Ten Years in an Open-necked Shirt'.
Fantastic. He's a true great!
Amazing poet ... got to see him last week
Like all the arts, poetry is a form of self expression and can be a very cathartic experience. Like Johnnie says everyone can have a go at one or more of the arts and everybody should. Don't put artists on pedestals, because everyone's capable of self expression. We're just brought up to think we're not.
You could study for a 1000 years in that place and never even come close to JCC
32 minutes JCC explanation of North South divide in Manchester - they weren't expecting that!

John Cooper Clarke | The Cambridge Union 1352pm 21.4.23 emoting all over the place... i didnt know we were still on the us vs them vibe - i cant say i had any issue with the oxbridge sect. red brick vs stone cladding, yer mean? ahahahaha... i recall ice forming on the inside of the windows... it's still cold now but the double glazing fends off the ice from forming.
Dr John is light years ahead of all assembled - especially the excruciating interviewer. How on Earth did he get the gig ? 2 males from different species
Cambridge University unable to record audio! No surprise really.
There should be a lot more laughter at this place! Did the audience 'not get him' most of the time? Some of this stuff was hilarious and no-one laughed...

Love JCC. Is this the worst interviewer ever, though. Discuss. ;)
Crap audio
One of my hero's but found the whole thing a bit embarrassing
I strongly recommend this guy interviewing doesn’t take it up as a profession. Awful interviewing style, non engaging, looking around the room and has one of the most entertaining and interesting people in the country in front of him.
fucking chicken town forever john
What a stiff bunch ...scary...poor Clark getting stuck with that mob
WTF, am I going deaf ?
In edgeways..........
John Cooper Clarke | The Cambridge Union 1400pm 21.4.23 what do i think?: the poet of whatever calibre - could be understating his aims on purpose or engaging with being utter tosh for the sake of it. the poet per se?: is the road to despotism, democracy and narcissism. as for JCC himself... i dunno. i have always shied away from commenting on them as people - these celebs... they're front men for a band or a guitarist or a standalone fiend. when they joss it will be the time to reflect. not that that means yer gonna be able to formulate an opinion.
Don't give up your day job.
Poor guy. Sheer talent and intelligence wasted on the attention span disorder pandemic generation. Such a shame.
I am so not impressed with these students - They are meant to be the best of the best. i went to a redbrick university and am sure that the students at my university are as good as this lot!!!!

Terrible venue
In my opinion the facilitator here is awful. Way out of his depth.. JCC deserves much better.
John Cooper Clarke with no sound. Pointless video
Sound problem, unlistenable.
Dreadful production values. Poor man’s Oxford Union. Not good enough for the great JCC.
