In the absence of political union (Federation) on democratic principles and, continued use of unsustainable,non-viable extend and pretend rogue loans to solve the continuing "debt crisis", the E.U is on the brink of a return the fragmented political and economic conditions of the 1930s.Varoufakis walks through Cambridge (Keynsian)macro-economic principles that were violated in the Treaty of Versaille that led to the unstable 'gold standard'of the 1930s, the failure to exercise them at Bretton Woods and the discarding of them during negotiations with Brussels on the Greek 'debt crisis'. Why he resigned in July after his collegues in the cabinet refused to implement his one credible threat which was to exercise the option under the Greek law to extend Greece's bail-out payments to Euro &IMF creditors indefinitely, say to 3030 rather than 2030('haircut'). He explains why 'austerity',though perfectly sensible in micro-economic contexts, individuals and household,is irrational when dealing with sovereign debt. Follow Varoufakis on twitter.

In hindsight, the British elite academia listened carefully to the genius Varoufakis, but iUK didn't take his advice and went Brexit. Who is smarter now?

33:38 He mentions green grocer . The corner grocery store and variety store closed about 6 years ago . 20 steps from my flat . sad . I mean all these morons around here did not support it but drove 10 to 20 miles to go to a supermarket or walmart supermarket . It sucks in the US because you have these retail developments where you have to drive to . we need to get back to self sufficient neighborhoods where all your needs are in walking distance .

Michael Kalecki's Fable In an impoverished Jewish shtetl in Eastern Poland, whose residents were mired in debt and living on credit, a wealthy and pious Jew arrived one day and checked into the local inn, taking care to pay his hotel bill in advance. On Friday, to avoid breaking the Sabbath injunction against carrying money, he handed over to the inn-keeper for safe-keeping a $100 note. Early on Sunday, the wealthy and pious Jew left the inn before the inn-keeper had had a chance to return the banknote. After a few days, the inn-keeper decided that the wealthy Jew was not going to return. So he took the $100 note and used it to clear his debt with the local butcher. The butcher was delighted and gave the note for safe-keeping to his wife. She used it to clear her debts with a local seamstress who made up dresses for her. The seamstress was delighted, and took the money to repay her rent arrears with her landlord. The landlord was pleased to get his rent at last and gave the money to pay his mistress, who had been giving him her favours without any return for far too long. The mistress was pleased because she could now use the note to clear off her debt at the local inn where she occasionally rented rooms. So it was that the bank-note finally returned to the inn-keeper. Although no new trade or production had occurred, nor any income been created, the debts in the shtetl had been cleared, and everyone looked forward to the future with renewed optimism. A couple of weeks later, the wealthy and pious Jew returned to the inn, and the inn-keeper was able to return to him his $100 note. To his amazement and dismay, the wealthy Jew took the note, set fire to it, and used it to light his cigarette. On seeing the inn-keeper's dismay the wealthy Jew laughed and told him that the banknote was forged anyway.

Lots of insight here, but 4 years to later to 2019 the EU has become even more repressive ( now an army being created, control over members budgets , courts, money , taxes, borders ,etc) Yanis does not trust capitalism, yet every single year the capitalists write off millions in unpayable debts as a matter of routine , something the EU failed to do with Greece, NO for me the EU has become a monster and an extreme danger to freedom and democrasy and wont allow itself to be reformed . At the international level it has destabilized international affairs by encroaching on the Russian borders, and undermining NATO . It makes the false claim to have brought peace to Europe, when it was the USA/and Britain that brought the peace after 1945 and by founding the United Nations Organization .

Some people can speak clearly with an english accent.... and some seem unable to. Perhaps they are satisfied by being comprehended by that small fraction of the english enabled population of the world who are actually english. At least I suppose that they can understand each other.
