It is kind of lost in today's synth dominated music world just how absolutely revolutionary it was to release a rock album with NO GUITARS in 1975!! Not just this track, but the entire album was produced with no guitars (including bass guitar)

Ah, but Power of Love did feature Ronnie Montrose on guitar. Every other track - nada. And no, I didn't have to look that up - this album was just massive during my senior year of high school. 1975 was the year, not 1972 btw.

@@BrakRulesAll You are right. I had forgotten about Power of Love. Probably because Gary Wright lied about that on the album cover claiming there was no guitar on the album. Which was true except for that track. But he was also fond of saying it was an all keyboard album, even though it had drums, percission and other non-keyboard sounds. In spite of his exaggerations, though, it was pretty bold to put out a (mostly) no guitar rock album in the midst of the guitar obsessed 70s. And at least I did get the year right, LOL.

Nice hidden gem to respond to Mr W ! Gary wright had a strong soulful vocal delivery . In 1974 I saw Kansas ,Gary Wright and Robin Trower on the same bill for $7.50 (1974) I was a Jr in HS
Hi ya Chod. This is your old drummer geezer. I'm going to tell you a cool story. Back in, I believe in 82 or 83, maybe even 84, I'm not sure, my cousin's husband ( Gary, no relation to the main man) was Installing sound proofing in Gary Wright's home music studio. He had told Mr. Wright that I was a successful studio session drummer and maybe he might know me. He couldn't remember, but invited me over to check out the studio. But my Gary was very excited about something and told me to hurry my butt up. So I jumped in my car and started to drive up to Palos Verdes. As I was driving up the hill, I saw a familiar face driving in the opposite direction, but couldn't place him. When I pulled up to the address given to me, my Gary seemed kind of angry. I asked him what his problem was. He said that I had just missed George Harrison by about 5 minutes. Mr. Wright came out and introduced himself, and although I was disappointed having missed the opportunity to meet one of the Beatles ( whom I love today as I did in 1964) I was very excited to meet Gary Wright. His studio was beautiful and I believe that he had every known instrument on the planet. He was also one of the nicest people that I have ever met. Great guy, and a very talented musician.

Great story Thomas. My dad was a telephone engineer and went to instal a phone for a 'Mr Harrison' in Liverpool. He noticed photographs of George Harrison and The Beatles in his home and casually asked Mr Harrison if he was any relation to George and he said he was George's dad. My dad was never phased by meeting anyone famous and just thought of it as part of his job which explains why I only found out about it about 10 years ago!😟

@@lynnehatton1239 wow, cool story. At that point in my career I had met a lot of great musical talent, including the members of the Mama's and Papa's ( Cass Elliot was awesome), Karen Carpenter ( or as we called her " one take Karen,") Buddy Miles and the entire Electric Flag crew. Just to name a few. Infact Hal Blaine was my mentor. But to miss meeting one of my childhood musical heroes was very disappointing. But Gary Wright was then as he is now one of my favorites. He literally could play any instrument. And even at the tender age of 16, meet the Wrecking Crew and Brian Wilson and the Beach Boys is something that I will never forget. Unfortunately today's music leaves a lot to be desired. Digital manipulation and autotune have ruined the music business. For example, Ms. Carpenter would enter the studio, the engineer would test the volume levels, Karen would sing and within 30 minutes the session was over. It was amazing to see how good she was. Always prepared and ready to go. 30 years later the " star vocalist " would take 3 hours for the engineers to " adjust the autotune " just so they didn't sound like they were singing into a bucket.
Lord, I haven heard this song in decades.
This was a fave of mine and still lovin it 😍😄
What a classic song. Everything about it is just perfect. Never get tired of hearing it..and I grew up listening to it!
June 12th, 1976, South Phillys JFK Stadium. Just me and 129,999 of my friends all getting along smoothly. Sharing, partying, enjoying ourselves and riding the same "positive vibe", wile basking in the 95 degree heat. New Jerseys own, Gary Wright climbing up the charts with the tasty and very cool album, "The Dream Weaver". Peter Frampton also climbing the charts and promoting one of the truly great live albums of all time, "Frampton Comes Alive". And "Yes", in their adopted hometown in America, Philadelphia. (Jon Andersons words, not mine) WMMR was 1 of the first radio stations to play Yes and they were always well received around these parts. All 3 bands at the top of their games musically, professionally, talent wise and "delivering the goods" live. Not only was this one of the best concerts I've ever been too, but as a 17 year old at the time, still 1 of best days of my life. Those who were there, always seem too agree.
This song was all over the radio back then, I remember it vividly. It transports me back to my childhood in the 70s
Certainty has that 70s production. Reminds me of Steve Miller's Fly Like an Eagle. Good stuff.
I clearly remember this song being on the radio 📻 all the time … good times.

WOW!!! This is an oldie! I absolutely loved this jam back in the day. It’s so nice to hear it again.
OMG, the memories come flooding back every time! I was 23 when this song hit the radio airwaves!
1975. Wow! Has it been that long? The first time I remember hearing this song I was around nine or ten years old and shopping for shoes with my mom and my little brother at the brand new indoor mall. The mall is still there today, but the merry-go-round and the coffee shop bookstore are long gone. Shopping for shoes for my little brother must have taken long enough for the resulting boredom to direct my attention to the music playing through the store's audio system. I'm guessing the clerks had tuned it to one of the local FM rock stations because I remember hearing this song followed by Manfred Mann's "Blinded By The Light" and The Eagles "New Kid In Town" -- and Steve Miller's "Fly Like An Eagle" too - memories, ach! Those songs came out in 1976. So this song was long past its peak on the charts, but it was well on its way to becoming an FM-radio staple nevertheless. It's a really easy song to get lost in to this day. You're largely right about damaging these songs by using them in jingles. I say ignore the jingles where possible. As Joe Strummer put it, "The new groups are not concerned \ With what there is to be learned \ They got Burton suits, huh, ya' think it's funny\ Turnin' rebellion into money".
" love is Alive" Gary is one cool cat 👍✌️♥️
The reason the music from the 70s and 80s is so prevalent in commercials and movies is because this was the music of the people who are writing the commercials and movies. As far as tick tock, that's a different story.

@@j.h.3777 Yes, I remember being a kid in the 70's and a commercial for the Plymouth Volare came on and I said this has a catchy tune. My parents then told me that it was a hit song by Dean Martin years before. So things go in cycles. I mean, we hear a lot of older hip hop in commercials nowadays.
I agree whole heartedly. I think movie, advertising and everyday people who use these songs beyond their intended purposes, are all contributing to the trivializing of them. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that the original MTV was a huge contributing factor in the trivialization of music in general.

I agree, i liked Mtv at the time, but it just put that much more work on musicians, ( no video? No hit) and it all just got outta hand. Made stars out of talentless bozos.
A perennial favorite in any of my Chill playlists. Always puts me in a good mood. Thanks for the reaction!
I love what you said about how songs can be ruined because they’re not used in the way that is beneficial for the artist. I was 11 years old when this song hit the radio. I don’t remember if I was aware of it at that time, but believe you me, I became aware of it at some point thereafter. It definitely was a song I remember hearing and listening to in my youth. I am 60 years old now, and this was awesome when I knew it way back then. Dream Weaver is a song that weaves threw time immemorial. 💙
The synthesizer used by Gary Wright is a decade ahead of its time
Love Is Alive is another great track from Gary Wright.
You make a very good point , I personally was 9 years old when this song came out! Glad u enjoyed it for what it is.
This when he went solo after being a member of the band Spooky Tooth. Try their song "Evil Woman"
I saw Gary Wright and his band right after the Dream Weaver album came out at the Auditorium Theater in Chicago. They did the whole album. All the instruments were electronic including keyboard base and electronic drums. What a fantastic band.
I remember it from Wayne's world and the people versus Larry flint
A True classic! Gary Wright was one of the early pioneers of electronic music. All the instrumentation except the drums are played on a synthesizer You can hear the lick in the bass line is being played on a keyboard rather than strings. (You're a drummer, I'm a bass player)... This song was a huge radio hit in its day, circa 1975. As others have mentioned, you must react to "Love is Alive" Gary Wright's second-biggest hit, also from this album.
Dream Weaver came out in 1976. I was 4, and it was one of the first songs I remember liking. It instantly brings me back to being in my dad's 1975 Chevy Vega (ugly car but lasted forever) on a sunny day.

My brother got a rootbeer brown Vega "Kamback" (really a station wagon) in 1973. This was before the vegas and all the other cars got the ugly sloped grill and huge safety bumpers in '74 (new regulation). Pretty car, terrible aluminum block engine.
Love this song! Give The Babies a listen, Isn't it Time is Fantastic!
The Dream Weaver album came out in '75. I only bring this up because I think that a lot of the music that came out in '74 and '75 was especially memorable. A lot of the bubble gum music was finally gone. The Bee Gees were just coming out with Jive Talkin'. The original Genesis with Peter Gabriel was the biggest live touring band around. Progressive rock was beginning to become popular. Disco was beginning to become really popular, but remember that couples dancing was almost extinct until then. Junior high school - the beginning of so many things.
I've always loved this song. I practice before choir with this song 😁
👍👍 Love this song!!! Always. 😁
I'm so glad you've taken an interest in this old music,.truly makes many of us so happy,..and you are so right about I guess you could say the over commercialization of these great songs,..now movies or tv shows, I don't have a real big quams about,..loved how Guardians of the Galaxy have kinda revived Redbone, Raspberries,..in Stranger Things,..Blondie,..the Clash,.you know freaking awesome!,..but like you said about these jingles for commercials,..I mean back.in the day the 70's,..and all the way back to the 1940's,..companies came up with their own darn jingles,..even before tv was invented,..for radio,..and not just giant companies,..little plumbing companies,..Kirby vacuums probably!,.I can't comment on the 40's, or 50's,..I hadn't arrived on the planet yet,..huh,..but.I remember commercials for Ivory soap,..and in the 70's ,."I'd like to buy the world a coke and furnish it with love,.grow apple trees and honey bees,.and snow white turtle doves, .."(I so had to look that up,.forgot it,..thats my point,..!,..haven't heard that,..they don't even bother to make their own jingles anymore,..except for maybe Nation Wide?,..insurance?,.and a few others,..very few,..everybody has jumped on the bandwagon,..and I know songwriters have the right to they're songs,.and if they want to or need to sell the rights you know them,..but then a song you grew up singing and lovin turns up in a Burger King,..or McDonald's commercial,..like "Good Morning Starshine",..I smiled at first,..but you know after a while....,..people hear these songs in a commercial,.and don't realize its a real song,.and they have no idea who the artist is,..or what their contribution meant,..so I worry when I see Stevie Nicks sold some music,..and I'm like ohh God is Landslide gonna turn up in an Allstate commercial,..or Stop Draggin My Heart in some heart medication commercial,..or Christine McVie's Honey High in some honey commercial,!,..its just you know,..not like these songs are sacrosanct,..its just they deserve more respect than that,..regarded for the innovation in music they were part of.,.ok,..I'm off my soap box now,..do check out "Love is Alive",..by Gary also,..its a jam,..love how he did the little keyboard play at.the end,..sounding like birds,..wings fluttering,..but on Love is Alive,..he comes in little harder,..enjoy,..Godspeed, Peace ✌

It’s because there’s nothing original anymore. The industry doesn’t want to take chances w new, creative artists and music. They want a sure thing and they’re counting on nostalgia to give us the feels and buy their products. This is also the movie/entertainment industry.
The flip side of your argument is, commercials and movies can turn people on to a song that they never heard or would ever listen to. And of course, the publishers and songwriters don't mind those extra royalties either. And remember, none of those old songs were written with youtube reactions in mind, lol.

Mr. Wilburn, your right again, this time about songs being oversaturated by commercial use. I'm not sure Dreamweaver is quite there yet. It's been an issue since pop music began. My band Led Zeppelin resisted the temptation to "sell out" for many years. Then one day my heart sank into my stomach when I heard "Rock and Roll" in a Cadillac commercial. I wonder if there is still a great pop/rock musician who hasn't sold out. BTW, I forgave Led Zeppelin. I had to.
