Full Live Stream - Max Rep Log Lift | 2023 Rogue Invitational

Спорт

Complete coverage of the Max Rep Log Lift, Event 4 from the Strongman Competition at the 2023 Rogue Invitational in Round Rock, Texas (Saturday, October 28).
With 90 seconds to work with, the Max Rep Log Lift proved the most tightly contested event of the weekend thus far. Mateusz Kieliszkowski had his eyes on a third straight event win, but between the Stoltman brothers, Bobby Thompson, and the ever-lurking Mitchell Hooper, someone seemed destined to hit the 10 rep mark and get a key event win.

After Mitch Hooper's 8th rep he spent 20 seconds catching his breath before touching the log again. He started to lap the log 4 seconds before the whistle. He held the log in lap position for 2 seconds before the whistle blew. He kept the log lapped for another 3 seconds past the whistle. He then cleaned and pressed the log and got the down call in 9 seconds. That means he essentially had an additional 12 seconds over the 90 second time limit to get that rep. That's essentially a 13.34% advantage, without factoring in the rest time between the 8th and 9th rep that he could afford due to going over the time limit. Not knocking Hooper for taking advantage of the rules in that way, but it's a silly rule in the first place. What was stopping him from lapping it at 89 seconds and holding it lapped for 30 seconds to catch his breath? As far as I know, that wasn't against the rules. Do we really want this to become a normal gimmick that each athlete does? I don't want that. It's a very very VERY inconsistent rule in my opinion. Hopefully they learned their lesson and don't implement it ever again.

Rules are the same for everyone, what does it matter if they get to rest more for the last rep? I like this much more than having athletes loose a rep just because the clock runs done a split second before they're locking out… so frustrating to see. Of course, it would be much nicer if everyone was made to understand these rules, Matheus clearly didn't know about it when he tossed the log away on his final attempt.

Sadly I think he's on his way down. He still has the injuries in the back of the mind. As someone who has completed in sports for a long time (obviously not at this level) it can stick in your head. I still get nervous when guys try leg locking me because of injuries that are anywhere from 10-20 years old and not even remotely related to martial arts. Knee injuries suck if you haven't had the privilege. I bet he's mostly healthy as in strongman you're beat up regardless. However unless he can break the mental issues he's at a ceiling as of now. Well....that and if he can avoid zeroing on the deadlift.

He's fine, and could have done much better. He said in interviews back home afterwards that he hadn't understood the rules, and could have easily gotten one more. He had paced himself after the change in rules. A complete lack of understanding, change of rules and events, lead many athletes not to compete at their best. Mateusz still one motions logs this easy and much more back at home. Wouldn't worry mate.

I think if you took the hardest call on the log lift event and applied it to all athletes every last one of them would have gotten reps taken off. And Hooper wouldn't have been given a single one.
