I kind of figured you would name these types of bands’ guitarists when I saw the thumbnail. Which is cool, they’re all good. But I was surprised with your honorable mention of Martin Barre. I think if I had a list I’d put him on there too. Also James Honeymoon Scott. Cool video! Gary

One of my faves is Robben Ford.. Robben had an great career as guitarist with Miles Davis, Joni Mitchell, George Harrison, Little Feat, Michael McDonald and, believe it or not, Paul Stanley wanted Robben to join KI$$ after Ace quit in 1982.

I'd say Weir is more than just a rhythm guitarist. He's all over the place, many times doing solos of his own underneath Jerry in the place of regular rhythm. That iconic guitar melody on China Cat Sunflower for example is Bobby. Check out his isolated guitar track on the China>Rider from Veneta 72, absolutely fantastic.

You're totally right. Hendrix is the best because he noodles but he also has memorable rhythm sections. Rhythm guitar is my favorite part of many bands. Keith Richards is top notch! Ace Frehley is another one. Yessssssss! Agnew! You're preaching now! I'd throw up horns for some Dead Kennedys with this. I agree with Albini with metal guitar picks. I squashed a penny on a train track once and turned it into a guitar pick. Loved it, was different. Still like the muted sound of plastic on metal though. "Independent Worm Saloon" may be my favorite Butthole Surfers record. "Locust" is right there though. What's the album where he sings in Vietnamese? That shit's crazy. Thanks for honoring the guitar players who actually make it happen! Cheers!

Good Lord! I was wondering what you were listening to, 😂. Poison Ivy is definitely up there. I think one of my favorite guitarist is Marty Wilson Piper from The Church, just love that jangle. Two guys that are not underrated, but definitely snubbed big time would be Rick Nielson and Brian Setzer in my book. Saw The Cats in the early 80’s a few times and that guy cooks, still does.

I realized how good Weir was when I saw him sit in with a band at the Warfield in the 80's. He was often overshadowed, but his rhythm on Me and My Uncle (and many others) makes the tune.
