It’s hard to comprehend that Cliff was so good at such a young age. I mean he started playing with Metallica at like 20 years old and he was already known for being an amazing bass player playing solos on bass like it’s a guitar! And it’s well known he had a really good understanding of music theory he would tell James and Kirk what notes to play when trying to doing Harmonies for a song they were writing. Even bassists that have been playing 30 plus years often don’t have the knowledge or abilities Cliff did. Cliff just was a true music fan he was born to be great and he was great it’s just too bad his life was cut short. I think if Cliff was still around Metallica’s music would probably have been different

Oh wow - good point about Under Pressure. I’d say that was almost better than Another One Bites The Dust. It was even used by Vanilla Ice, so it was a chart topping song for two different artists in two different genres, many years apart. Tho I don’t know if mentioning Vanilla Ice helps or hurts the argument!

I once had crappy seats, behind and above the stage at an Aerosmith concert. It wasn’t a hard sellout, as these cheap seats were lightly occupied, just a handful of us up there, but when they started Sweet Emotion, Tom Hamilton turned around with a grin on his face and played the whole intro for just us. We all got up and started grooving. Really made the show for me.

There are some bass riffs that Deacy played. The bass line from Under Pressure was his, according to Roger's story, they were in a session together, and he kept playing the line from Under Pressure, and when their ordered pizza came, they all came to eat. After eating, they all came back to the studio, and Deacy forgot about the riff, good thing Rog remembered it. Also A Kind Of Magic and Dragon Attack riffs are quite good as well in my opinion.

I realize this is a rock bass list. I would love to see a list that includes dance or R+B music. It is Bernard Edward's bassline on the track "My Forbidden Lover" that makes my jaw drop and he was equally impressive on "Good Times" and other mega-hits the group released. On this list my favorite was the honorable mention Radiohead track.

Great video man, on that pearl jam tune you can play harmonics on the 5th and 7th frets to follow the guitar pattern if you dont have it in the backing track. Sounds way cooler. The first run is harmonic at the 7th fret, on the g string then 7th fret harmonic on the d string. Seconed run is harmonic on the 7th on the g, then 5th fret on the g string.

Not that this song would be on anyone’s radar because it was on the Stone’s “12x5” album 187 years ago, but Bill Wyman’s intro to “2120 South Michigan Avenue” (the address of Chess Records) set down an undeniable groove. It is an original blues-rock instrumental by the Stones that was essentially a jam built on top of Wyman’s bass line. George Thorogood released an album by the same name in 2011 and included a cover of the song.
