I like how the drum intro is not always necessarily a fill, but the establishment of the beat. People say, just make a beat, and the song comes around it. This is how drums can be the foundation of a band.
If it didn’t start with a tiny bit of synth, a ridiculously amazing one to add to this list would be the intro that Dave Grohl plays on the Queens of the Stone Age song “Song for the Dead”. That is definitely my favorite drum solo of all time.

David Levin - No drum intro comes close
All great selections and hard to argue with. My favorites are “You Could Be Mine” by Guns N Roses and “We’re Not Gonna Take It” by Twisted Sister. Some obscure songs with great drum intros are “Planet Hell” by Nightwish and “Seven Pillars of Wisdom” by Sabaton. The drum intro to “Ghost Division” is very brief and there isn’t really anything special about it, but I love the way it leads into the song. It makes for a great opener for the band live.

Awesome ! My all time favorite witch would selflessly be created in INDIANA, My home state. KENNY ARANOFF PLAYING THE DRUM INTRO TO JOHN COUGAR MELLENCAMP, JACK - n - DIANE.
Loved this! But glaring omission on this list is "Sing, Sing, Sing" with the fabulous intro (and fills throughout) played by the great Gene Krupa! (The man who invented the backbeat in the 1930s!!)
"Are you ready, Steve?" "Uh-huh!" "Andy?" "Okay..." Man, thank you for throwing in The Sweet and BALLROOM BLITZ! Made me smile!

I just subscribed to your channel. Love the lists. Here's some one I think that needs to be included in your drummers lists. Tony Thompson was truly a great drummer who played for the likes of Nile Rodgers and Chic, David Bowie and of course The Power Station. He definitely had some great intros, fills and solos and surely some almighty grooves. Take for instance Power Station's Some Like It Hot (Nice intro and fills), Go to Zero, Get It On Bang a Gong (killer intro fill), Lonely Tonight and Communication. Those included great drum intros, nice groove and fills. David Bowie's Modern Love is also another great tune with Thompson's work. Also his work with Chic includes songs like Rebels Are We, Soup For One, Everybody Dance (has a killer groove), My Forbidden Lover (another killer groove). Come to think of it he could at least be an honorable mention in most of these drum categories.
It's very cool to see Rick Beato actually playing on the video! 🎉

When the Levee Breaks is the first song that came to mind when I saw the Title of the Video. A lot of great choices in the Rundown. Technically...there's no drum intro to the song Time. Bass, guitar and synth come in first, and the drums dance around the landscape they make.
