    Rodolfo Alejandro Schwarz Pace agreed. Jeff P. maybe had a better groove than anyone hell yes. Cozy Powell good grimmer and great guy. But baker I’m sorry Imo was an overrated p,layer. But more than that and the reason he’s left off most lists is because aside from being a little overrated not being able to keep a meter that great playing overly complicated things and playing them kind of sloppy the guy just a rotten human being he’s just mean was always on drugs and mean as a snake to everybody and I say when you’re 7 feet tall that big of a human being when you play with toothpicks scotch taped together which is essentially what his sticks look like well then you’re just a woos and you don’t deserve to be on any list sorry I have a personal prejudice against Ginger Baker. But like they say opinions are like assholes we all have one right.

Who else is going on.....Neil lost his daughter, wife, and fought brain cancer in short time, back to back tragedies plus one, Neil's gone too. Is there no God? Oh yes now there is, ...his name is NEIL, so kneel.

    Buddy did more with four drums than so many others do with monster sets. And he could play with phenomenal speed, phrasing, and precision for extended periods without starts and stops. His power was also insane, as I felt it up close several times. Finally, watch him drive a band, and you'll see why he is legendary

For any drummers anywhere near my age there's essentially 2 "schools of drumming" for rock. Neil-Technical excellence and Bonham-Heavy hitting with subtle technical prowess. I've always liked Buddy Rich, Gene Krupa, John Bonham, Ainsley Dunbarr, Ian Paice and much later was impressed by Ken Mary ( kzread.info/dash/bejne/o4ualqxym868naw.html )

    Having seen Buddy perform live and listening to his playing in all the video clips, he was the GOAT. The rest could approach his talent, but none could quite reach his level. His playing was on a simple trap set with no special electronics to enhance his playing. He never caught a rim unless it was a part of his solo like this video shows. And NO One could get close to his hand speed and accuracy.

  • @revyu6754

    @revyu6754

    Ian Paice was pretty close to Buddy Rich in terms of speed, but Rich was a truly phenomenon. When was the last time a drummer regularly appeared on late night talk shows and always soloed?! It just never happens, anymore. These days, Donati, Lang and Royster, Jr. are all extremely fast. So is Eloy Casagrande. There are others. Lang has amazing independence, but can't compose a comprehensive solo the way Buddy did. Donati can, and he is truly amazing. He might be Buddy's equal, but they have different strengths (and Donati was a damn beast in his day). These lists are almost always a joke. I mean, Tommy Lee? Eric Carr?! You'll also usually find some completely 2nd-rate drummer like Grohl on here. Didn't even bother watching most of it, as the poster clearly doesn't know the drums.

    All these drummers were good with Neil Pert was great, but none could match Buddy’s hand speed and accuracy. You never hear him hit a rim unless he meant to. He didn’t have all the fancy equipment, like Neil, but did it all with standard drums. And he used to use those skinny cymbal stands that telescoped up. Buddy also claimed he never practiced, though I know he had to rehearse with the bands. Buddy never had formal training, but did start in Vaudeville at 4 years old. He played in huge venues like Carnegie Hall but also played much smaller venues like jazz clubs. I got to see him at my High School in 1975 during his West Side story tour. My High School!

    Ngl, Eric carr is a good drummer but if you look at Peter Criss between 1973-1977 he blew Carr outta the water, and as for the No. 1 slot it should be Gene Krupa not Buddy rich but anyways….

    Buddy Rich was SICK!!!! I was wondering if he was going to be on the list. He was way before his time. There wasn't many bands out there that could keep up with him during his time. But now. His phone would ring off the hook "Come play with us!" He had no limitation to what he could do. He can play anything any drummer could come up with. Believe it.

Obviously, put together by someone who doesn’t really know drumming. I once saw him on a old TV show and he said he thought Chet Atkins & Glen Campbell were both terrible musicians!! You gotta have a lot of nerve to say that about the two of them who were great talents....many said he was not a happy guy and extremely hard and critical to work with.

    On a more serious note, there's Buddy Rich, then there's everybody else. Buddy was the best snare and hi-hat man in the business, hands down. (I always liked his left-handed upstrokes on the underside of the hi-hat. Very creative and original). Also, whether it be Slingerlands or Ludwigs, he only ever played with a single kick drum set. 😄👍🇺🇸

I thought Peter Criss was on this list as well, but I guess quite a few people felt that Eric was the better of the KISS drummers. But Buddy Rich played....BEAT THE HELL of those drums!!! @@billdrummer1197 HAPPY NEW YEARS, Bill! The only way I can answer your question is like this. People like who and what they like! What the rest of the people on this planet does, doesn't matter all that much to the personal experiences that each of us goes through on our respective journey of life! What I liked during my 20s, back in the 1980s, is far different than some of what I like at 61 years of age now! I'm sure that you have evolved a little bit as well. It would be a waste of time and energy to get uptight about your comment simply because we don't see things the same way! If the world is coming to an end, believe me when I say this, for every living thing, the end will come soon enough! It happened to me in August of 2010 during Brain Surgery and again in 2011 February from Congestive Heart Failure the Friday before the Super Bowl! I was in ICU for almost 3 months! By The Grace of God, I am still alive! So, we just disagree, Dude! ✌️

    The fewer the drums to strike, the shorter the distance to reach. The shorter the distance to reach, the quicker and faster the sound. Trouble with a small set of drums is there's only so many combinations. Neil Peart of Rush played with over 100 pieces in order to have different sounds. I know we're comparing apples and oranges, but y'all should listen to a 25 minute long solo of Neil during ANY Rush Concert.
