Foreigner, Fanny, Paul Rodgers, Inxs, Boston. I know you are familiar with Fanny Professor! Fanny was the first female rock band to release an Album on a major label, Reprise Records (1970). They were the first female rock band to tour extensively as well. Their band name is to denote the female spirit. Classic lineup June Millington-lead vocals/lead guitar; Jean Millington-lead vocals,bass; Nickey Barclay- lead vocals, keys;Alice de Buhr-drums, vocals.

BS!.... Typical of today's society to pass the blame. Fact is the R&R Hall of Fame has a LONG HISTORY of accepting and inducting musicians from ALL types of musical backgrounds and GENRES for nearly half a century now. Just because you don't care for Rap music does not mean that artists making music in the genre don't have a place or thst their talent shouldn't be recognized. Unless you're going to call for the removal of artists such as Abba/BB King/The BeeGees/Stevie Wonder, Earth, Wind & Fire/ Ray Charles/Otis Redding/Robert Johnson and so many others that I don't have time to even begin to count I suggest people get over this. The bottom line is that the Rock and roll Hall of Fame has basically been a general Music Hall of Fame for ages now and while I agree the name should be changed to reflect the fact that they recognize more genre styles than rock alone I do not agree that has lost its way for found something it has always done. To say it has somehow become politically correct is absurd and an obnoxious and disappointing statement that I can't believe the Professor bothered making. Even if I do agree that these artist listed should have their within the hall. You want the real reason there aren't more rock and rollers being admitted into the Hall of Fame lately? There are people to blame but it's not the Hall of Fame. If y'all want to blame someone. I suggest you look in the mirror because it is the parents of children that failed to pass on the history of rock and roll and the appreciation of playing real instruments to create music using sampling and computer synthesized audio tracks. Blame yourselves for not rushing to the support of Music & Arts program funding in schools with your money but instead throwing piles of money a sports programs and then wonder why kids don't have any appreciation of other types of music. Blame yourselves because it's your faults that rock had fallen out of favor with the youth of today and if unlikely to ever make a strong comeback. It's obvious when you watch a music reaction video on KZread and you see the surprise from these kids that someone actually played a real instrument in the song. Something that shouldn't be a surprise to any kid who went to a school with a decent music program. I bet they wouldn't be as surprised if somebody could throw a football though would they? When I was in school and taking part in chorus, band and arts based classes that is where I discovered other types of music such as Mozart, Beethoven, Dixie Land and Blues. If I hadn't had that exposure I would have known only pop music, a bit of country and snippets of rock and roll since I rarely got to see my parents enjoy anything in the way of music since all they had time to do was work and sleep with tiny bits of time they could devote to spending time with us kids. That is because the family unit is fallen apart as well over the years. So yes, there are people to blame for the current state of the music industry. But don't blame the Hall of Fame and don't blame me, after all I don't have any kids but if I did I damn well would teach them better than what y'all have done with yours.

I've reached the point where I completely and utterly ignore The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. They have rendered themselves irrelevant by their own actions, and I don't see how they could ever undo that. Their snubs no longer matter.

I think there needs to be a hall of fame called all things rock Include rock and roll. And all John rose of heavy metal. Do not allow any other genre of music in it like joke. Called the rock roll hall of fame.

Everyone has seen the “Miss sang lyrics with fat bloated Neil struggling to sing his own lyrics” !!! He is just a joke at this point! A fat, sissified teddy bear who is just a joke of his former self!! Edit: Only Mick Mars survives as the only true rocker from this band! The only one who stayed true to Rock!!

it just depends how you look at it. to start a hip hop hall of fame now, after all this time just wouldn’t mean anything, no matter how hard they tried to make it seem like it. but the rock n roll hall of fame has meaning, it’s considered the mecca of musical accomplishment. for that reason- they started to induct hip hop artists as they should i think. cuz to me it’s not so much a rock n roll hall of fame as it is just a musical hall of fame. the best music produced in the modern era all the way to today. so then looking at it from that aspect, how the fck are you gonna leave out the entire hip hop genre when you have such influential artists like eminem, tupac, jay z, lil wayne, dr. dre and kanye. these guys are some of the most influential music artists of all time, not to mention some of the greatest sellling artists of all time too. the rock n roll hall of fame should be renamed to like The Rock n Roll and Various Genres Hall of Fame or some shit. idk, im sure there’s a better name out there but you get my point. but this is just one fan who loves and appreciates all music genres’ humble opinion.

The Rock Hall of Fame is a sellout trying to be all things to all people. Maybe they need that to be able to honor true Rock stars, but then again, so many great Rock Stars are ignored and left out.

Being Canadian, we are dumbfounded that “The Guess Who”, with classics like American Woman and These Eyes by Burton Cummings and Randy Bachman, has been snubbed over and over. Even BTO, (Bachman Turner Overdrive) with one of the most played iconic songs in the history of rock, Taking Care of Business along with numerous other hits. Even Randy Bachman, who was a founding member of The Guess Who and BTO could be inducted into the hall. Finally, my personal favourite Canadian iconic band, The Tragically Hip, with the late frontman, Gord Downie. True Canadian royalty. Come one man, it’s a total disgrace that these rock giants are snubbed and Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson and Harry Belafonte are inducted. Don’t get me wrong, Dolly, Willie and Harry are all ground breaking artists in their own right, but NOT in the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame.

This goes back aways, so people forget, Tommy James and the Shondells. With songs like Crimson and Clover, Crystal Blue Persuasion, Mony Mony, Hanky Panky, Mirage, Draggin' the Line, Sweet Cherry Wine and more. He was one of the original innovators in rock and roll with his song being covered by many popular artist.

Supertramp is my snub and a half. Breakfast In America and Crime Of The Century are iconic. Pop and progressive rock masterpieces with technical musical brilliance with chord progressions, thematics of the lyricism and incorporation of two opposing vocal styles and ranges. Its a crime of the century they aren't in the hall of fame.

Another Boston-based band, The J. Geils Band, is a *huge* snub. Too many fans only know them for the stuff off of "Freeze Frame" and miss out on their great early work. On top of that, they're one of the greatest live acts *ever*, and if you doubt that, I just have to point out "Musta Got Lost" from "Blow Your Face Out" with the Woofa Goofa's famous "Raputa the Buta" rap intro.

Kings of the 70’s. One hit after another.

How about Kansas? Their depth of songs and musicianship is unparalleled. Kerry’s song writing , Steve and Robby’s vocals. When they were opening for other bands, they blew them off the stage. They were so well rehearsed Brian May said they were so tight they sounded like a recording playing live.

Kansas has to be one of the most screwed over bands in history.

My list of 5 unforgiveable snubs in no particular order: Monkees, Knack, Gerry Rafferty, Boz Scaggs, Bad CO. But obviously Boston, Foreigner, Billy Squier, Billy Idol, and Dave Matthews are also mysteriously absent with no credible explanation.

INXS and Boston are not in because their lead singers died self inflicted. It is not fair to the other bandmates but I think that it the reason. They think it will be depressing and with no lead singer, the performing will not be the same and they want that buzz of bands doing their thing on their stage. Boston also is seen as "too American" as straight up rock and roll was not popular in Europe and their success was too american. British musicians say the same thing about the HOF and they are snubbed saying they were too British and had little world wide success.

It's amazing that Bob Seger did make it into RRHOF on his last shot at eligibility. Also amazing is that the fans did make a difference in pulling him over the hall bias. It would have been a travesty if he was excluded given the man's life played out like what you'd expect of a rock musician: touring endlessly, album after album until breaking through years after his first, building a following long before the world ever heard of him. Bob's perseverance alone deserves recognition, but his place in the hall almost didn't happen. It just shows to go you that they have misplaced priorities if they have them at all.

Jethro Tull!!! They have been around for 50+ years, are incredibly innovative, talented and versatile, and in my opinion, Ian Anderson is one of the best, if not the best, songwriter/lyricist in the genre. I was shocked to learn they had not been inducted, and even wrote the “Rock Hall” an email questioning this several years ago. Since then, there have been quite a few questionable “honorees”. Apparently there are many other deserving “snubs” which I was not aware of. Really makes you wonder how they make their selections!

Absolutely. In the 70s, they were arguably the biggest band in the world, selling out stadiums, headlining pop festivals like the California Jam, selling more in a single concert as the sole act than Led Zeppelin, the list goes on and on. As a live act, what they did preceded all the great live acts that copied them. For talent, they dwarfed Rush or any other band, man for man. They were a huge force, but because the rock critics hated them, they were forced into obscurity. It is definitely a shame, particularly after Keith and Greg died. Only Carl Palmer is left...

Back in 87-88, a friend of mine would DJ at a college radio station on late Saturday night and I would go with and we would have some beer and 19:28 smoke. But mostly it was like having the worlds biggest record collection! Could pretty much play what we wanted. And take and play requests. One night this hammered guy called and said his girlfriend would do the nasty if we played foreigner hot blooded. So we played it and say this is for Mike and Michelle! Then he called and he was so happy. We played that sucker 4 times 😂😂😂😂. We got chewed out but what the heck! Rock and Roll baby!!!

I agree with your snub assessment. Additional snubs such as Rolling Stone magazine keeping Joe Satriani off their top 100 guitarist list is equally as baffling!

I can't believe Peter Frampton hasn't been inducted, he is truly one of best guitarist. I first saw him in concert when I was 16 in 1978, and have been lucky enough to attend many concerts. He is absolutely AMAZING I finally got to meet him in 2019 during his Farwell tour. A moment I will never forget. Really enjoy the interviews you have done with him.

Very very good point-Frampton’s omission-he is more than a former teen idol, he has tremendous guitar chops. An icon of the mid-Seventies, and he’s not already in? Good job, Disco Hall Of Fame.

Ronnie James Dio. Period. Co-wrote 3 of the greatest hard rock albums of all time with three different iconic bands. 1975’s Rising by Rainbow, 1980’s Heaven and Hell by Black Sabbath and 1983’s Holy Diver by Dio. The greatest voice in Hard Rock & Metal and one of the most influential musicians in Hard Rock & Metal. This is a no brainer.

I can't understand how *_Reo Speedwagon_* hasn't been inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. They've been entertaining audiences since 1966. The comforting vocals and keyboard, contrasting savage, heavy guitar solos somehow worked. The lyrics were relatable, and anyone would find themselves singing along whenever their music plays. Another injustice by the RRHOF.

I’d have to say that I agree with a lot of those, but the Guess Who not being in the hall is a war crime. I also believe Steppenwolf and Joe Cocker are also big misses and was kinda disappointed they weren’t a mention. As Cocker is credited by many Rock legends as one of there biggest inspirations.

Joe Cocker heads my list of biggest snubs, but reading through the lists on this page there are so many that are much more deserving than a large percentage of those already in. Especially those that I don't consider rockers.

Why does everyone overlook STYX? 4 consecutive platinum records and possibly the first power ballad with Lady. Along with Foreigner, Boston, Journey and REO, they defined album rock rock in the 70's & early 80's.

It doesn't change cadence and rock out like Lady or Come Sail Away from Styx, Stairway to Heaven, Hotel California etc I'd give first rock anthem/power ballad to The Who with Baba O'Riley. It starts soft and turns into an anthemic rock song and released before then all....

I stopped paying attention when they started inducting rappers and pop stars. It's shocking the amount of rock bands that never get a look in.

Emerson, Lake & Palmer. - They sold many millions of albums, - They filled giant stadiums all around the world (setting many attendance records in the process), - In 1974, ELP was tied for #1 with Led Zeppelin in the annual readers poll, - And yes, they were trail blazers in the truest sense of the word. And yet the RRHoS refuses to give them the credit that is so badly overdue to them.

Jethro Tull - A one-of-a-kind band that put out a solid string of albums in the 70s--including a couple chart toppers. Three Dog Night - From 1968 through 1974 these guys were all over the radio, and they were a strong concert draw too. King Crimson - A band that pushed the boundaries of rock music and forged a highly individual path. Grand Funk Railroad - A live powerhouse and musical juggernaut with strong selling albums and a few hits too. Bad Company - Paul Rodgers was in the band. Nuff said.

The fact that Jethro Tull once won an award for “Best Heavy Metal Band” tells us that the people making these kinds of decisions are complete idiots.

I hear all of these tasteless one hit wonders, Carlos Santana and Santana as a group hopefully with Greg Rollie, just finally got in when he did the album with all the new musicians. They were at freaking Woodstock! I am glad they got his whole band in . Robin Trower needs to be in too, he is what 80 years old and still plays a full schedule and he has most amazing sweep picking technique of anyone! His Strat still has 11s tuned down a half step but he’s been around since 1966, James Dewar was the velvet baritone! Jude with Trower, Dewar, Reg Isidore. Procal Harem! And every year there’s another “ Boo Boo and the Numb Nuts” inducted. I just play my iPhone play lists and shake my head.

Like, I m no fan of Malmsteen, but you would have to be stupid not to admit that he can play, Eric Johnson, he’s not my cup of tea either, but you have to admit that they are great musicians who have sonic capabilities that speak you. Will they ever get in. David Gilmour is my favorite guitarist of all time and his voice is still outstanding and I am glad that he is in. He is the epitome of what the hall should reward !

The Scorpions are the only one you left out that really has influenced many bands that have been playing music for 50 years, and still sound excellent live with 120 million albums sold, what is it going to take? I always liked you PoR. Now I love you. You are absolutely right. These songs saved lives for sure. There is a light that never goes out is an anthem for the marginalized and disaffected. I just came across this video from last year, and I could not agree more with your choices! At least one of them is getting in this year (Foreigner), and.. your t-shirt was prophetic with the Dave Matthews Band getting in this year too.. and OZZY!!! YES!!! So excited about that. Now.. we need to make a push for 2025 for Boston AND Paul Rodgers. Not having those 2 in is an absolute CRIME imo.

Kansas & Styx, hands down. Their skill and their musical creativity & depth, in combination with their commercial success and longevity, makes them no-brainers who should've been in far, far ahead of so many others who've been inducted. Hard to respect the RRHOF without them there . . . . I agree with many of the names others list: Foreigner, Toto, & King Crimson would be my other three. The Crim have never been hitmakers, and while their path has been uniquely their own and their iterations have been seemingly endless, their influence on other groups is massive -- never the "cool kid" band, but the musician's musicians know and respect them highly.

I think Clark and I just became best friends. I have to say…Martin Barre’s virtuosic playing and powerful guitar tone on the track “Minstrel in the Gallery” is simply incredible. Fun fact: The main guitar riff in that song supposedly inspired the one in “Miss America” by Styx.

I think what hurts Toto in the discussion is that too many rock “ purists “ hold it against them that before they became a band, they were individually outstanding studio musicians for others. I don’t think that should exclude them at all.

Before they were Studio Musicians they were in a Band called RURAL STILL LIFE in Los Angeles and they were so good Sonny and Cher used Jeff Porcaro and David Paich was a Piano prodigy and were then First Call Session Players. Jeff then Joined Steely Dan and David started writing tines with Boz Scaggs for "Silk Degrees" and the rest is History.

On an episode of "That Metal Show" Eddie Trunk was asked who was worse when it came to how they treated heavy metal acts, The Grammy Awards or the so-called Rock n Roll Hall of Fame. His take, and mine, was that the Hall of Fame was by far the worse of the two. The Grammys so often get it wrong because they're clueless about that kind of music, but the Hall does it on purpose. At least the Grammy have a category for hard rock and metal. The Hall obviously wishes those categories never existed the way they go out of their way to snub bands in that category. I guess they don't get the "Fame" part of their name as they don't really care about what bands have lots of fans. It's all about bands that meet their specific requirements, not the fans.

1974's Bad Company is in my top albums of all time, along with Boston's self titled debut. Those two albums are OUTSTANDING

Styx, REO, Toto, Kansas, Blue Oyster Cult, Foreigner, Iron Maiden. Scorpions, Boston, King Crimson...and so many more...

I think my #1 is right behind you: Jethro Tull. After the Beatles my favorite music growing up was Prog, and after burning out on Yes I embraced Jethro Tull. They had it all: great musicians, fantastic music, powerful lyrics, and a surprisingly heavy repertoire of songs led by a flute playing singer. I totally agree with your assessment that Boston should be in there on their debut alone. Not only was that the greatest rock debut of all time, it was one of the greatest albums of all time! And the rest of the catalog isn’t too shabby either. Finally I come to my right product at right time favorite: Foreigner. I was just entering my teens in ‘78, getting out and seeing more of the world while delivering newspapers with my portable radio and earpiece. The first band that I became a huge fan of was Foreigner and Double Vision was the first album I ever bought. Yeah they were great and should be in there too. Quickly rounding out my top 5 I’d include Bad Company AND Paul Rodgers together, and throw Styx in there too. Originally the knock on Styx was no hits early on and the early albums lacked consistency. But nobody can argue with this run of records: Crystal Ball, The Grand Illusion, Pieces of Eight, Cornerstone, and Paradise Theater!

Toto is deserving, based not just on their own body of work, but for the countless Grammy award winning recordings they contributed to throughout the 80s and early 90s. They were literally everywhere.

Being an 80's kid Motley Crue - REO - Styx - Scorpions - Eddie Money - Night Ranger -Boston - Huey Lewis - Bad Company - Iron Maiden - Meat Loaf - Foreigner Basically anyone that has or could have a Greatest Hits album should be in the HOF. Missy Elliot ?? George Michaels? many many others with only 1 or 2 hits in ?? Others; Quiet Riot - Cinderella - Poison - Toto - Kenny Loggins ....

I can't believe Steppenwolf, Iron Butterfly and Grand Funk Railroad aren't in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

You know RRHOF is back-asswards when Dolly Parton said she didn’t feel she’d earned her spot, because she didn’t play any Rock - So, she made her” 1st ever Rock album to feel worthy of being an inductee.” Much respect 🫡 for Dolly!

I think Dolly Parton understandably had issues with the RRHOF due to them forever ignoring county music because "it has its own hall of fame," and didn't want to be in. She probably decided it would bring less attention if she accepted.

Rock Hall has made an effort to cover everything that influenced the genre of "Rock & Roll" which is a culmination of different genres, so I personally don't mind artists who aren't necessarily considered "Rock." However, Chaka Khan, sorry. I do think the Rock Hall has just become the major labels mainstream rock Hall of Fame. It's almost like the museum fel into the same problem the genre made come the 70s which spawned punk rock. Rock groups became lame, or super glam, and it was all from major labels. Then this whole scene came out which spawned into a tree that is rock today. "Classic" rock doesn't inspire anything today. Punk spawned emo, hardcore, indie, even today's metal is kinda more inspired from punk than say 80s metal. And there's a million sub genres as well. Fast forward to this year, Fat Mike opens the Punk Rock Museum, and they get it. The include a real history of music from the 70s to now. There's bands many don't think of "punk" but totally are in context, and that museum covers those bands even if those bands didn't want to "be in it." Look at the Rock Hall as less a hall of fame and more a mainstream circle jerk much like how Grammys were. (Grammys are dead ever since Kanye peed on his trophy). Rock Hall was a great idea, but has just been taken over by the old major label gatekeepers. Fat Mike's museum for Punk Rock, however, is one for the people, and he even said, they are going to expand and cover bands who aren't considered punk. But that's because people don't know, punk rock has inspired the past 50 years of rock and roll that wasn't mainstream record label bull crap. And that is the plain and honest truth.

I am not a big fan of The Smiths, but when I think of alternative music I think of The Smiths and the Cure. I even can appreciate how good they were. Can not believe they are not in the HoF.

How long did it take them to acknowledge the "smoke on the water" riff alone. I mean Deep Purple was a third of the that whole Led Zep, Black Sabeth, Deep Purple influence that changed everything that followed in heavy/metal rock for the next 20 years........but on the riff alone I'd have found a spot in the HOF well before they finally did. The Fact that Ritchie Blackmore blew them off and didn't show up was ..... PERFECT!! A response to the nomination the Hall of Fame richly deserves more often than not in my opinion. That same year Deep Purple got in so too did Steve Miller who chose his time at the microphone to voice his displeasure with the Hall of Fame. Loved every minute of his "take down". Saw it after the fact though because it would be a cold day in hell before I'd ever watch it live anyway. Thin Lizzy, Iron Maiden, Jethro Tull and Styx are definitely deserving on the body of work they produced over the years. Richie Blackmore (Deep Purple) & Ronnie James Dio (solo & other bands) in Rainbow very deserving artists in their own right as is the amazing vocalist Paul Rodgers from Bad Company & Free. imo

The Scorpions and Motley Crue

The omission of the Guess Who is a travesty! One of the best bands of the late 60s early 70s! Also Rick Derringer should be in for the McCoys, playing and producing Johnny and Edgar Winter, session guitarist on Steely dan and countless others, producing Weird Al , plus many other great moments in rock and roll history, plus and incredible guitarist to this day!

Well, I agree with the bands you mention along with the honorable mentions, plus a number that others already stated. As for a couple not mentioned I'd add Eric Carmen/Raspberries & Ian Hunter/Mott the Hoople, two bands that I've listened to from start & still enjoy their music. I think it would be fitting to get Eric & Raspberries in with his passing away this week.💔

I agree with your list and would include REO, Soundgarden and Smashing Pumpkins. And probably STP too. Definitely STP over some of the recent inductees.

I was surprised by the long list of those not in the RRHOF. No one has mentioned Three Dog Night. Back in the day they were huge with three number 1 hits and 21 songs that charted in the top 40.

The hall of fame had a few serious omissions over the years but they've corrected it: inducted the Faces, Rush, Cheap Trick, Def Leppard, Roxy Music, T Rex. I've listed those bands because that's what a serious omission looks like. Now I see ppl talking about omissions of second rate acts like Foreigner, Kansas, J Geils, Peter Frampton, and freaking Boston, who makes albums every 5 or 10 years. We're at a stage where the hall of fame will have to decide on how many 90s bands to induct, and that is very tricky. There were a lot of great bands who made great work, but never became popular enough to cause great waves. Let's see whether they'll ever induct Husker Du or the Replacements or Sonic Youth.

Quite the truth here. I have been wondering about their total omission from even discussion about the Hall for years. Their twenty-one consecutive Top 40 hits should alone be worthy of induction, or at-least the nomination once in a while. This kind-of success on its own puts them into Beatles / Stones vaunted territory. I think that what hurts them is that nearly all their songs primarily came from outside songwriters in a time when this was largely ending for rock artists; to be "rock" you are expected to write and sing your own material. Also, their songs have not carried over and received the continued regular radio airplay that other top classic bands enjoy; you may hear a song or two periodically but never regularly, regulating them to the inferior "oldies" status. And no one whom talks music ever seems to mention or list them in their discussions of influence or value; I have never heard anyone anywhere ever say, I was influenced by Three Dog Night to sing, play guitar, and start a band, other than maybe a few talking in the early / mid-70s - their heyday. I think that the HofH looks at all of these, but still, though, I feel having a great and indomitable commercial success definitely says something, too, than just having critical success with writers and the opinion-makers. Their contemporary in Grand Funk Railroad are in the same purgatory boat here as Three Dog Night.

I heard one on the 3dn members on a radio show say the 1st. Yr. The hof opened he was told the 3dn would never be in the hof. It's a shame. Boycott the hof!!

I saw them in 2001. They still rocked.

My #1 snub is Kansas! They’re celebrating their 50th year in the business and has been America’s best progressive rock band. Such fine music and incredibly talented musicians. But Rolling Stone magazine always disliked prog, and I think they have an undue influence on the choices for the Hall.

I recall an older co-worker of mine, back in the late nineties, had a paperback that had all of the RS record reviews, from it’s inception, to the early eighties, when it was published. I was astounded by how hard they came down on Zep, Sabbath, Purple, Rush…one album after another. Another reason Creem magazine mattered…

Great list professor. Here is my list. WAR, Styx, Reo Speedwagon, Boston, and Supertramp. These artists made some of the best music of the 70's and 80's

I'm always wishing that Dublin's own Thin Lizzy would make it in there eventually. To me, they define that twin guitar sound of the '70s and they made so many great songs. Maybe the rock hall can take a year on the forgotten bands and make the whole list for a year these overlooked artists. I'd also like to see Tribe Called Quest get in. They are amazing

Procol Harum. They were not just classical rock however "A Whiter Shade of Pale" must have been the most played tune of the last century's second half. Original member Robin Trower alone should be in the R&R HoF.

Boston , The Guess Who , Bad Company , Toto and Foreigner should be there. This channel should be there too. Best channel on KZread !
