These are really just jam sessions where Angelina selects a song, and she and Ivan figure out some basics of how she’s going to approach it. I’ve read somewhere that Angelina has said to Ivan: Just follow me. And Angelina begins her magic. And Ivan follows her beautifully. He knows we’re here for Angelina’s voice, and he understands just how to follow where she’s going. We get similar accompaniment now from Rob Christie who backs her with great piano. Both Ivan and Rob know Angelina’s voice is going to carry all the melody-wherever she takes it-and they give her beautiful chords that make that work.

She totally transformed this song into another Masterpiece. How does she do that???

His name is Ivan Mendez and yes he is very good. He did a wonderful interview about his recordings with Angelina. He would hang out with her and her family during the day and in the evening they’d quickly settle on a song and did these recording with little rehearsal and one take recordings. The original is more upbeat and has a wonderful harmonies of 4 people singing together. She does it all by her lonesome in a slow-downed version with a lot of melancholy in her voice. As so often she makes me feel and hear the story she is singing. Thank Ray!

Angie is still 12 here, and has just moved from Norway to L.A. It may be the first session that Ivan and Angie are having together. This song is just magic. She has recomposed it into a sultry ballad and much better expresses the longing and sadness that the band is feeling cooped up in a NY hotel room in the winter.

Ivan Mendez was Angelina's guitarist in LA in 2018. In an interview with Alan Papier on his KZread channel, Ivan told the story of how the cover came about. In a nutshell "Angelina doesn't have a wish list of songs, she decides spontaneously if she likes a song. After hearing this song she says great song and has downloaded the lyrics. Then Ivan played the melody and Angelina says" good but slower, slower , even slower. OK, well, let's start ". Then the cover was recorded in one take, Angelina sang the song here for the first time after her arrangement without rehearsing beforehand. 💯 *AJ* 💯 👣

Anybody know what Angelina's plans are ? I see a lot of glamour shots with hip hop background music and those ridiculous blue contacts. Is this the new Angelina ? TikTok Angelina ? Will we be seeing tattoos next ? I always knew Angelina and her family were well off but it's getting ridiculous. I want the humble prodigy Angelina back. L.A was the worst decision ever. I'm very upset about the whole thing. I spend two hours a day listening to her old stuff because there is no new stuff to listen to. It would be the tragedy of a lifetime if she chooses modeling over singing.

@@beachbumseaglass Angelina is a teenager at 16 and she does teenage stuff. I suspect that tiktok is Angelina's own thing where she alone decides what to post. So a normal teenager, thank goodness. Well, not bad with almost 370k follows and over 37 million viewers in just under 16 months. Whatever music Angelina listens to privately is up to her (we don't always have to have the taste), contact lenses and tattoos aren't the affair of fans, Angelina has parents and in 15 months Angelina will be of legal age. Angelina's education has always come first, even before her music. But during her trip to Norway this summer, Angelina said in an interview that she is working on her first album on RR and it will be out soon. Out of politeness, I won't comment on the other points in your comment. 🤗🤗

Best comment I've heard about this one comes from Alan Papier. In his video about this song, he plays the original by the Mamas and the Papas and then samples a few other versions by other artists. Then, after playing Angelina's rendition, he explains how it's different from the others because in her version, "the leaves are really brown, and the sky is really gray, and California is really a dream".

Ray, just dropped in to catch your reaction. Angelina makes old guys feel young. Ivan Mendez was Angelina's guitarist when she was in LA; he has been featured in several home videos. Ivan was recommended by a friend of Angelina's family, and he fit right in and enjoyed every session playing for Angelina.
